Eco-printing is a process by which the colours and shapes of leaves or other natural plant material such as bark, seeds or flowers are transferred onto fabric or paper.
Here mordants like alum etc are used which are not environmentally friendly.
What is dirty pot method
Here no mordants are used instead aluminium pot or iron pot are used as mordant
Iron or copper rods are used for rolling
Rustic iron is dropped in water
The Ingredients:
Onion skins give rich orange dye colours but the addition of rusty spikes (iron water) will significantly darken the colour. The Aluminum pot will impart some aluminum as a mordant.
Eucalyptus leaves
Rustic Iron
Cotton cloth ( cellulose or protein based only)
Rust water
Mild soap
Vinegar
Rods
Baking Powder solution
Steps
1. Preparing dirty pot
2. soak the fabric over night
3. soak the fabric in rust water for 40 sec
4.Spread and fold with onion skins and dollar eucalyptus leaves
5. Roll fabric tightly with rope
6. Cook bundle for 2 and 1/2 hours
7.Remove and open the bundle
8.soak in baking powder solution
9. Wash with mild soap
10. Iron immediately
