Get ready to master green horse training. Learn how to build trust and confidence with these basic training techniques for young or beginner horses or even an older horse needing some help.
I’m excited to share my latest video with you! This week, you'll get an authentic view of my fifth day of groundwork with a green 10-year-old mare that I’m re-starting under saddle.
In this uncut session (with just a few breaks for the mare to process), I demonstrate my basic groundwork techniques and how I use my body and energy to transition between trot and walk. You'll see how I help her relax and release tension, building trust and confidence every step of the way. At the end of the video, you'll also witness what happens when I use too much energy while walking towards her.
This video offers valuable insights into real-life horse training, focusing on developing a strong foundation of trust and confidence with a green horse.

I’m so happy I found this channel, I have a pony mare I’ve been head butting with who is so similar to yours, she’s insanely sensitive and I’m finally learning on how to use it to her advantage and helping her heal from her rescue history. Thank you!!!

I've been watching your approach and methods for some time now. My approach is very similar, but I'm always eager to learn new things. Thank you for the time you put into making the videos. I'm currently starting a 7 y.o. mustang mare, and with lots of work, she is now totally and thoroughly halter broke. She was shut down but is very sensitive. I love working with her. So, thanks again. Blessings to you.

Love watching your videos Josie. I have trained like this for many years and it is great to see someone else giving the time the horse needs. Keep up the great work!

Wonderful video, wonderful and sensitive approach, at the end I had tears in my eyes... I don't have many opportunities to work with horses from the ground yet, I'm an occasional rider, but your videos are inspiring and if my dream of owning a horse comes true one day, I wish I could approach him and take care like you ❤ Also i would like to see how you work with horse thats like this mare at the beginning of journey. And again, thank you very very much ❤

Could you do a video on counting canter strides? I'm struggling a bit myself, and think it would be beneficial for me and my horse to be able to canter with more ease, and me understandings his gaits further. Thanks for this great video as well! Your so fun to watch and your tips have helped me so much.

I’m so glad you find them helpful. Yes I will do a video for you. Do you mean counting each stride or each step of the stride so you know where your horses feet are?

I apologize for the late reply. Mainly breaking down each stride so I know where the horses feet are. Thank you so much for your time reading our comments.

This is helpful. I have a 3yr filly and she’s learning so fast but when I lunge her she gets in a trot then stops and looks at me. It’s been difficult for me to get her to keep going. If I can get her to go two or three full circles I’ll stop her before she does hoping that will register in her brain. Any pointers? Thank you for the video.

Hello! What is your advice with a horse being stubborn and not listen to your aids? I have a riding class at 6:30 p.m (horses eat their dinner) and my horse wouldn't listen or pay attention to me during the class. My coach says I should use my legs and kick hard.

@BasicHorseTraining hi josie. Can I get some advice pls? My stockhorse is playing up when I ride him. He stops walking and refuses to walk on. I can only put so much pressure on him with aids and I'm sure he'd escalate if I hit him with a crop. Do you think getting off him and lunging him would fix the problem? He's done it quite a few times now.😟

I'm finding it so hard to be light but firm with my little horse. I'm finding myself being a bit too firm.
@BasicHorseTraining

That’s fine because you are aware of it. It takes time but keep going. You will do it I know 🤗

@BasicHorseTraining Thanks, Josie. I think it's because I raised four men, and the only other horse I started was a mischievous clever colt that I had to be firm with.
