In your video you are using continuous lighting. Can one use strobe lighting as well? And can one use a Bowen mount lights?

Absolutely great video as usual, thank you! The way these reflectors detach the subject from the background is also quite interesting, very visible in your comparator tool, it's like playing with the factors of the inverse square law.

I have 3 of the godox and a para 222. The build is great but the mechanism to open is pretty bad. A guy did compare them. It showed that the Broncolor has more punch and the godox is a better softer or less crisp on the subject.

Very nice video thanks for sharing, I would like to know Karl's point of view on the Parabolix 35D :D

Hi, thanks for your comment but unfortunately I'm unable to give an informed POV on equipment that we've not seen in person.

Is there a way to use a para with led video lights? Since the led has a flat surface I guess one could attach some kind of bulb shaped white diffusor maybe...
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 5 месяцев назад
Yes some manufacturers make a frosted dome to go over the LED

Thank you for your very interesting presentation! I couldn’t oversee the Satellite Staro in the background… do you think a Para 133 with a Diffuser 3 in a focus position could replace the Satellite Staro? Greetings from Switzerland!
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 5 месяцев назад
Hi, yes in fact the 133 with the medium diffuser and the focusing rod in the hard light position gives almost indentical results to the Staro which is probably why they discontinued the Staro. Interestingly I did an indepth show on imitating the Staro here: visualeducation.com/class/imitating-the-satellite-staro/

Thank you for introducing me to the flattering world of paras! Which size do you need at least for full body shots if you don't have the space for the 222?
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 5 месяцев назад
The series goes from 88, 133, 177 to 222. The 177 can also be used for full length.

They look really well built but I haven't actually used a briese one before.

Great video. I am creating photo/video studio for rent soon... thinking about companies i should choose... broncolor, godox.... or? Photo studio for product photo, fashion...etc so it should fits everything, also videos.... Anybody know reliable comparisons? or maybe Karl could you make and compare all top brands? (especially interesting to compare godox with broncolor)
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 5 месяцев назад
That would be great but we don't own the other brands that you mention and unfortunately there is no benefit for us to have to purchase them all to make a single RU-vid video, that would be too expensive.

you can also use the para backwards. Mount the flash head from behind. Has anyone ever tried this?
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 5 месяцев назад
Hi Yes, that turns it into a giant P70 style reflector. Not particularly pleasing results though.
@RayValdezPhotography

i would assume that makes it like softbox with no fabric. Indirect light seems to be the king of more even light on skin.

The Godox have the parabola shape, but the reflecting texture inside is not good! It makes the modifier act like a soft box! You are not getting the three dimensional effect and sculpting that you get from the Broncolor! So it’s an exspensiv and good looking soft box….
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 4 месяца назад
Thanks for the info, I haven't tried a Godox one yet but good to know.
@findyourreason

You kind of lost me when you discussed how great the parabolic is for sculpting a face...and then showed a photo that the model's eyes definitely show the reflection of ring light. Ok then.
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 5 месяцев назад
No all the images shown were taken with a Para but mostly with it in it's defocused position and as we explained in the video when a Para is in the defocused position it is primarily the periphery of the Para that is illuminated - which would make the reflection in the eye look similar to a ring flash but is actually from a much bigger light that is usually off axis compared to a ring flash. We have another video on the ring flash you might be interested in.
