Naltrexone doesn't treat withdrawal symptoms/ prevent seizures, etc. It just reduces cravings for alcohol. I would have thought a benzodiazepine would have been the best option for someone experiencing withdrawal. But of course, that wasn't an option.

Thats what I thought too, Naltrexone to prevent relapse and benzos to alleviate withdrawl symptoms...I think you even have to be devoid of withdrawl symotoms for a couple of days before administering Naltrexone...

You can’t treat a CNS depressant with another CNS depressant. Naltrexone is used in withdrawal

Naltrexone does not treat withdrawal symptoms; rather, it is designed to suppress cravings for alcohol or opiate drugs. Individuals with moderate to severe alcohol use disorders who are using naltrexone may experience withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking that can be potentially fatal due to the development of seizures. These individuals should consult with an addiction medicine physician or psychiatrist before discontinuing their use of alcohol.
