Best video I've found for learning to braid garlic. Silly so many self-sufficient folks will start a process with "Buy some string from the store". Totally unecessary 🤦‍♂

That was the simplest way of explaining this I have seen so far AND no strings was needed. Nice. What variety of garlic was this the purple color is beautiful.

The one I used is Basque Turban for this video. I love all the turban varieties. They all are striped, some purple, pink or even brownish purple.

That was awesome, thank you so much. Will try this in October. Didn't know you can brade hard neck garlic. I am being brave this year and growing hard neck, soft neck and elephant garlic. I am a beginner but had a huge harvest last year on my first try. Thank Again. From Monbulk Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 ❤❤❤

Can you do same process for onions
@Alisorganics
@Alisorganics 26 дней назад
Yes! Smaller onions work best for braiding. Onions larger than 3” in diameter are kinda hard to braid.

Its ok to braid when the leaves are still green like this? Thanks for the video
@Alisorganics
@Alisorganics Месяц назад
Yes. These were pulled a few days before harvesting, so not as green as freshly pulled. The fresher the thicker the braid and the more it will shrink though. I think the braid is cleaner if the leaves haven’t dried out all the way.😊

@@Alisorganics Thanks much. I just tried with very dry leaves and it was challenging. Will braid earlier next year with fresher leaves
@Alisorganics
@Alisorganics Месяц назад
@@fouroakfarm it is challenging. The leaves break making the braid not so pretty and I get garlic leaf splinters! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I have let some go to long and wrapped the leaves (leaving bulbs hand out of the towel) in a wet towel to kinda moisten and them, making them more flexible wasn’t perfect, but at least more braidable.

the garlic i buy in the store must not be very fresh because it start sprouting after a short while. should it not be kept in a dark place?
@Alisorganics
@Alisorganics 2 месяца назад
I’ve found a dark place doesn’t seem to matter. I hang my braids on the kitchen wall. I”ll store mine I save for replanting in our root cellar, and it doesn’t sprout. When it’s about 7-9 months old it’ll start to sprout. Store garlic is often shipped in refrigerated trucks and that tells the garlic it went through a winter and it’s time to sprout.

I have a question for you. My wife wants to only plant cloves from bulbs with 6 cloves, since that's the ideal count for the Korean Red that we grow. Does it really matter? We have some large bulbs with fat cloves @ 7 or 8 per bulb. I would like to use them for planting. BTW, 'large' for this variety is a bulb 2 to 2 1/2 inches in diameter. At least that's what we've got. I'm happy with it...
@Alisorganics
@Alisorganics Месяц назад
I love Korean Red! Yes! Plant them!
@groussac
@groussac Месяц назад
@@Alisorganics Thanks. I know we'll end up planting some from the 7~8 clove bulbs because otherwise we will run out of cloves. BTW, what do you use your Korean Red for? For us, it's the only reliable garlic for making Kimchee. For roasting or munching, I'm trying to convince my wife to go with a milder variety like Music. The KRs are too spicy for me. Besides, with a garlic named Music, how can you go wrong?
@Alisorganics
@Alisorganics Месяц назад
@@groussac I make black garlic with it. So good! I grew Music for a few years and because of the mild winters we’ve had, it didn’t do so well.
@groussac
@groussac 28 дней назад
@@Alisorganics Black garlic! I had to look that one up. No chance of doing that here. All of our Korean Reds are earmarked for making Kim Chee or medicinal uses known only to my wife. Or eating cloves like candy. There's no such thing as too much garlic in my house. No problem growing Music here in Iowa, but I notice it matures a little earlier than the Korean Reds, Red Russians and German Porcelains, which all mature at the same time. We'll be braiding soon, and I'll be reviewing your video for guidance. I've got to get it right the first time; else the wife won't trust me to do it at all. Thanks for your help.
