RIP to my old friend. He loved this band and he passed away a couple months. "I don't want to leave you here alone among the wind and weeping" really hits me. I can't believe I'll never see him again.
I feel you bro, a budy of mine died a few years back and this song wasnt out at the time but this album has taken a whole personnal meaning when it came out and now this song just hits hard

yeah i can't stop listening to this masterpiece of a album!... if opeth (one of my all time favorite bands whom happen to be touring with them at the moment) would put out a album that tops their game!
The chorus is so beautiful and touching. It's sad that it is so short. I find myself repeating this song again and again and waiting for the chorus to hit. It's just so beautiful, I can't get enough of it.
Have just listened to the whole album. A fair amount of the time, at least a track or two has to sorta grow on me. Not this one. I do t know anybody else thinks, but I dig the hell out of it; front to back. Amazing album. But yeah, so here I am, halfway through the last song & fuck it’s amazing. May be one of my favorites off this one. Coming from someone that in completely in love with their early stuff, I’d have never thought 20 years ago, that I’d be so into this beautifully evolved version of Mastodon. 🖤🔥🤘🏼
There is definitely something special about this track. Was telling my wife that Oblivion was such a particular part in my life, I'm sometimes sad I can't hear it again for the first time. This album, and this song especially, brings so much force with it. It gives me goosebumps. I went and listened to Blood and Thunder, and it was like seeing someone grow from youth into maturity. Just that first chorus break - WITHOUT A HEARTBEAT, THE DREAM IS DEAD - ALL THAT I HAVE SACRIFICED IS LEAVING ME, AND LETTING GO, NOW Just over and over, it's colossal. Bands spend their whole careers trying to make something that sounds like this.
all of the solo work on this album is astounding, yes, technically impressive but to me more importantly, it's emotionally invigorating. hands down best metal album of the last 2 decades imho

When I try to describe Mastodon to someone who has never heard them I always go with the same image: Four cavemen that found an alien temple on Earth, and touched some sacred alien shit that automatically gave them the hability and the mission to make a band, and inmediatly after that they we're sent to space.
I've been listening to this album a lot since it came out, it is an absolute masterpiece. So moved by this music. On more than one occasion I've been brought to tears.

Fuuuucking hell that chorus made my hairs stand up and brought a tear to my eye... Branns voice... the sad but powerful guitar riff.. and god the most evocative lyrics
When I was homeless I sat in the park listening to Pandora and this song came on. I must have played at least 10 times in a row because it was as if it was written for me. I cried so hard, because the words were so true.
To state this song is a "power ballad" is the understatement of a lifetime. This is that song for the one person...that soulmate that you never ended up with...that haunts your every breathing moment...that you long for in your dreams, but know you have to let go. The opening notes tear at your heart. The lyrics crush every fiber of your being. In the 49 years I have been alive, not once, has a song ever literally tore me apart to the deepest recesses of my core...and healed the same core of a longing never to be realized.

I think Brann Dailor deserves the presidential seal for his vocals. You can clearly hear how much they have all worked on their voices over the years, especially live performances
Every mastodon album is a masterpiece equivalent to the ambient subconscious of a mastodon thawing from a frozen state to the point of almost melting back to life to then be frozen and be taken on an excursion of timelessness over and and over again, thousands of years apart. Each time during "The Thaw" we hear the power of the mastodons wisdom call to the wilderness.

I'm hearing quality's in Troy's voice I never heard before. This band just keeps getting better with every album. This album definitely sounds better live. All the songs are big and strong just like a real Mastodon.
I can’t remember the last time that I have liked a song enough on the first listen to go to youtube and comment on the video. This song is absolutely spectacular, and so is the rest of the album. But this track in particular is one of the best ones I have heard from Mastodon (or any other band) period.
Holy smokes another super turbo jamalamadingdong. Throw some green goodies in ya and call it a day. Walking on mountains with my head in the clouds after that one. I hope these dudes never become turds to each other and stop doing this. Hearing their brand of creativity makes for a great release.

5:05 I keep hearing new layers to this album that stick in my head. Those "oohhhhhh" background chanting vocals have been stuck in my head last couple weeks. Amazing album.
The goosebumps are real with this song. I went on a first date with this girl that went pretty well and listened to this song on the way home. Very cathartic
Had it All is right up there too, but it’s not this good. This might be the best new song I’ve heard in a decade. I basically just discovered these guys a couple of weeks ago. I can’t believe it.
You're the Green Boots of bands - always at or near the top of the mountain. This has already become a favorite. It's too good for radio, but it feels like it should be a radio classic.
