There’s something magical about hearing a song for the first time. Having my brain completely blank; to be taken on a journey where I am unaware of where I will end up. What an incredible masterpiece this song is. Maybe it’s the weed. Maybe not.
@@trzigweid that's the true sign of a band that actually grows, matures, and explores. As much as I love all of the old stuff going back to Slick Leg, it's killer to watch them grow and evolve. There are a lot of fans that want a Remission or a Blood Mountain or a CTS over and over. Not me. They already did those albums and they're masterpieces. Life is meant to be lived in the windshield, not the rearview mirror. People evolve. Musicians and bands should too. Mastodon is adults with families and a different POV on life than when they were in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s. I was lucky enough to see them in Atlanta back in the club days before they blew up and we knew back then they were going to be amazing. We had no idea just how amazing.
Brann is such a great drummer. One of the best of the modern age. But fuck. His vocals have gotten to a point that they may have become more impressive than the drum work. Unbelievable.
@@whizzercone maybe in studio, he’s absolutely not the best vocalist live, and was pretty damn awful for many yrs after he fucked his voice up. He pretty clearly doesn’t like to sing that much in mastodon I’m sure because he doesn’t want to sing a lot at shows. All of their actual singing voices have gotten better in recent years tho because they started to focus on it more
Not since Rush have a prog rock band spoiled their fans like this. I have the full discography (physical media thank you) and we are so lucky to have Mastodon!
Seems like they weren't kidding when they said this is "the fullest, biggest-sounding record" they’ve done so far, and I can't be more excited to listen to the whole masterpiece when it releases! :)
4:35 and onward, but especially at 5:02 and beyond is enough to send someone crying with chills. What a piece of work/creation. Such complexity and melody with odd time signatures ....wow
LYRICS: Will there ever be a moment I won't feel this heat coming up from ground? Will there ever be a time when I can show myself through open doors? All I need is you to tell me how to reconcile this guilt and shame I’ve already ripped myself to pieces and I've given it away All the weight lies upon my shoulders from The great disruption It's hard to breathe inside these waves of doubt Tidal distraction Can you tell me how to wish away this chaos making my head spin? Can you tell me how to soothe the savage beast locked up inside these walls? Will there ever be a place that I can hide and heal these open sores? Or do I have to cut them out and eat them as my people adore? All the weight lies upon my shoulders from The great disruption It’s hard to breathe inside these waves of doubt Tidal distraction I have, I have lost my way Reaching, reaching for today I have, I have lost my way Reaching, reaching for today Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back
It's a song singing about satanism and how its not that bad because they can just fast to be as powerful as profits to bring oppression, lust, and pain to the population, to god. Yea I love this band too, but lately I've been modifying the lyrics for the sake of our existence.
Don’t think the album qualifies for a Grammy because it released too late so it’ll have to be 2022 Grammys. Pushing the tide got a Nom tho for best metal song because it released before the deadline.
@@puppetmaster8551 Yeah they got that one, but the album and the rest of the tracks qualify for next year. Be cool if they get consecutive nominations.
This is their best since CtS. Easily. I hated Emperor of Sand and only liked a few from The Hunter. This was their make or break for me and I like it a lot.
😂😂😂 I was on the train when it played on my ipod. I had to make sure no one was looking cause I kinda started rocking out in my seat. I fn love this track. Kudos to Brann Dailor 👏👏👏👏
Probably my favorite off this album. Killer verse guitar riff, awesome verse vocals by Brann, solid good ol switch off with Troy for chorus vocals and just when you think it couldn't get better you get a great change with a Dirty B solo and more Brann vocals. That ending just grabbed me and something about it was new but familiar and after several listens it struck me that it is very similar (but not stealing anything) to AIC's Nutshell in chord progression and in so evokes that same visceral emotion for me. Another solid Mastodon album and this is one of the highlights imo that keeps me running back.
super f'ing interesting you pointed this out. holy shit you are observant!! i have been playing guitar for 15 years and am just now starting to get into theory. I am obsessed with nutshell. How did I not hear this? The talent of others like yourself amazes me! Thanks for sharing that!
Okay, it is my first Mastodon album i've listeden to, and I must say - AWESOME PIECE OF ART. Heavy, yet complex, precise, lyrics are meaningful, not lazy and dumb. There is some god's particle in this short song, where some part of listeners will experience clarification, comprehension of their current state and impulse to act. Although it's in minor key, song is uplifting. Cheers
I've never told anyone to listen to a specific album. But I'm gonna do it now. Crack the Skye. One of the best albums ever made. The concept, the harmonies, the eeriness. Everything.
If you haven’t already I’d listen to their last album emperor of sand and then work your way backwards, their earlier stuff is fuckin incredible but it’s hard for some people to get into so I recommend going from new to old instead of old to new.
Sludgiest track on the album and my god Brann's voice is so angelic and Troy's voice in the bridge is almost Peter Steele-esque followed by a really pretty riff and Brent takes us home with a tasty little outro solo that tastes just like Ritz cheese crispers!
Troy only sings the chorus on this. The bridge is brann and then when it’s repeated it’s Brann layered with himself. When they perform it live tho it’s Brann and then Brann and Troy together because brann obviously can’t sing both the high and low parts by himself.
This sound is epic. Brann sound like Volbeat singer a bit on this one. These guys are so diverse with 3 singers. It gives them such an advantage musically and creatively. Hence the diversity. Awesome !
Fulfilled an 8-year dream of seeing Mastodon live this week, in St. Louis. There is something amazing about shaking the hands of the guys who make the best music in the world.
Mastodon is one of my favorite bands, period. I really do love all of their albums, with Leviathan and CTS being my absolute favorites. This album is just so massive. I have to admit, upon my first 1-5 trips through it all, it seemed like every song was meandering aimlessly through chaos. The timing and riff changes seemed so abrupt, and unexpected, that every had this unfinished feel. I really didn't feel it from start to end. It was a lot to take in and try to understand. Now, fast forward to about the 20th time through this album, and I admit that this is entirely different level for Mastodon. The arrangements, the hooks and switches have become much more familiar and I now have a sense for where each song is meant to go. It's a thing of beauty. Thank you Mastodon.
I was just thinking this, my first listen through of this album it felt disjointed and I wasn't a huge fan. Now on probably the 10th listen and it just clicks, there is some powerful stuff on this one.
This whole album is for right now, the ending of this song makes me picture in my head better times, people celebrating, and the greatest comeback we’ll all ever make
Gobblers of dregs is the best imo but this is the 2nd best. The album as a whole is really great so I don’t think there is any song on the album that is by far the best
It breaks my heart that this music is in the dark and not being exposed in main stream radio channels… so much talent, the world has forgotten what that is.
This song is something special. The last two minutes is beyond words. Brent is amazing here too. I love how they left that little blip in there at 6:05. So good.
And I'll come running back..... bring a grown man to his knees. I've made terrible choices in life. This song cut me so deep the first time I heard it. I wish I could fix the things I've done and heal the people I've hurt. Mastodon helps. Will there ever be a time when I can show myself through open doors.
Mastodon O Mastodon how the hell do you keep doing this. Outstanding!! The most consistant metal band around today and one of the strongest back catalogues in metal history.
I think this is the most complete song on the album, it works from start to finish and builds nicely. The pieces fit, the parts transition cleanly and the ending is epic.
From the "singles" I was getting very nervous this release wasn't going to be what I was hoping. I was wrong.... they did it again. The band can do no wrong.
Everything during the "say when" part is one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Such a cool part. Everything in this album sounds great so far, I haven't heard but three songs.
No doubt. I saw Mastodon a few days ago live, and man that show slapped. Hearing the new tracks live was such a moment. All 4 of those geniuses were so together, it was fn disgusting. This album is such a delight. Love it!!!
@@rubaidaallen2764 ya they definitely sounded amazing on the tour, saw them in AZ and their playing was perfect and Brann and Troy crushed it on vocals, Brent was solid too. Just a great fuckin performance
@@puppetmaster8551 Absolutely amazing. I hope they tour the States again when they come back from Europe in the summer. I would love to see them live again. So awesome.
@@rubaidaallen2764 they will definitely do more touring in the US down the road a little bit, they’ve always been a band that tours a ton so I think you’ll definitely be able to see them again in the not to distant future
Hi from England fellow Mastodonians. At this moment this is my fave track, the pivot at 4:36 to the most epic uplifting outro is one of the best things I've ever heard. It's Frickin' Awesome!
Just saw these guys last night in Reading, PA with lamb of god for the "ashes of the Leviathan" tour and got to watch them play this whole album front to back. Incredible show - this was my favorite song of the set 🔥🔥🔥
"Say When And I'll Come Running Back" Damn... The closing lyrics on this one destroy Me to the core upon ever listen! This song is Relentlessly beautiful and powerful to the very end!! 💪😌🤙❤💯
@@herbertwilliams4463 I think Alice In Chains has more powerful lyrics but this lyrics on this album are fantastic and the best they’ve ever done imo, super emotional and they hit hard. Shit is fantastic. For me tho Alice In Chains will probably always have the most powerful/relatable lyrics ever. Best 2 bands in the world for me.
The entire double album titled Hushed and Grim that this track is from is said by Mastodon to be dedicated it to their friend & manager Nick John who died in 2018 of pancreatic cancer. This song to me seems to be about the great loss of John and immense impact that his passing has had on the band over time.
