He died 8 days before his 58 bday, he was hospitalized for a stroke and found out that he had I believe it was head cancer. So he retired and I also believe he died in 91.
He died? I didn't know that. Very sad if he was still in his 50's. He seemed like a very nice man, but then all of the so-called "celebrities" seemed so much more polite back then.
Bert was originally tapped to do a new MATCH GAME for ABC in 1990 when he got sick and Ross Shafer took his place, interestingly, the Tuesday after that version ended it's run, Bert passed away.
I really felt sorry for Elizabeth for drawing a complete blank and that long awkward silence when she couldn't think of an answer. I hope she didn't take it too hard when she left the stage. :(
Oh, that has got to be the most uncomfortable moment I've ever seen on the show! She is such a lovely woman, I hope she was able to laugh about it all afterwards.
At least it wouldn't have mattered since she needed 4 and the celebrities all said something different. And to her credit she did give an answer in the nick of time.
Bert Convy held up a "Happy Thurs." card at the beginning. However, this episode aired on a Monday - August 13, 1973. (Obviously it was the 4th one filmed with this panel.) I believe the Watergate trial messed up some of the air dates?
@@ArtmonkeyProductions I got the August 13th date from a Match Game Episode Guide that I found online. According to that same guide, there was no episode broadcast on August 2nd. (Episode 18 was on the 1st and 19 on the 3rd.)

Surprised Dr. Bill didn't go for Joe Namath. That's who I wld have gone with. I didn't think Joe Louis wld be up there since he was long from the public eye by then. Joe D came around the same time as Louis, but I figured he wld be up there.

Mary G. You don’t know how much I love Jesus so you shouldn’t judge and even Jesus got harsh with people and told the truth. Comment all you want but don’t ever judge someone’s love of Jesus. People can say or do something but it doesn’t mean they don’t love Jesus the same way Jesus loves us unconditionally. I assume you’re a Christian ... I’m pretty sure you’re not perfect.!

Wow I was just thinking he looked like Johnny Mathis (whom I love). But now that you say that, he does look a tiny bit like jerry Lewis. Do you see any resemblance to Johnny?
