I like it when contestants seem delighted by some of the panels witty (or stupid!) answers even when they dont match. It shows that they really understood the spirit of the whole thing and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. And that we, forty some years later, tend to take it all way too seriously.
Richard scores his 12th head-to-head match today. His accuracy score is starting to climb again, and once again he's catching up to Brett (he's approached her score a couple of times before slipping back). Here's an update on all 5 celebs to have scored 3 or more matches so far, along with their current accuracy %: Betty - 46.7% (7 wins in 15 attempts). Charles - 46.2% (6 wins in 13 attempts). Bert - 30.8% (4 wins in 13 attempts). Brett - 28.6% (4 wins in 14 attempts). Richard - 27.9% (12 wins in 43 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 145, excluding the lost/missing episodes 31, 32, 33.
Dickie does have roughly 3x more attempts than Brett and Betty. A baseball player can bat .400 with 40 hits in 100 at-bats, but to remain that successful with 300 ABs or 600 is more difficult. P. S. - Thanks for the statistics, it is intriguing to track the show's progress.
First time I heard them cue the music just for getting the top answer in the Audience Match! I guess it was because they were gearing up for a commercial!
Orson called Uta Hagen "best actress in the world". Her brother Holger Hagen, his wife Bruni Löbl and Bruni's sister Margot Leonard were very popular actors in Germany.
I don't know what the audience had against Charles' Jumping Jack. John J. Pershing is credited with creating the exercise known as the Jumping Jack while training Army cadets at West Point in the late 1800s. The Rolling Stones also had a hit with Jumpin: Jack Flash in 1968. Jumping Jack is a perfectly valid answer.
I can't imagine the producers and panelists actually enjoying Brett's company on the set , she must have had strong connections , but I see Gene and Richard enjoy insulting her every chance they get
And that is indeed the role of Brett. Without someone like her, they're all amusing enough but so polite to one another that its all rather bland. She was there to break down that boundary they wouldn't normally cross. Brett, quite willingly, put herself out there as a target for the punchlines and much of the humor over the years was at her expense. Tough job but somebody's gotta do it.
I wonder if Jack Klugman had a part ownership in MatchGame? That's the only explanation I can come up with for Brett being on the show. In later episodes she does mellow (a 70s word) and find a foil in CNR and occasionally with Gene. Anyone else have a better explanation?
I would think shoo fly or pop fly. Also Bob Barker, but then again he was only in his second year of hosting the Price is Right at the time so he wouldn't be big yet. Bob Crane (Hogan's Heroes) too,
Definitely agree about shoo fly. Bob Barker had been the host of perennially popular Truth or Consequences for nearly two decades before he began with Price Is Right.
I love Brett, but I don't understand how she can be a grown adult, and act the way she does. I know she had self esteem problems as a kid, but it's been almost 2 YEARS now!
I don't think Marcia realizes that these contestants really want to win money, not be amused by her absurd answers. She's a funny gal, but needs to apply herself. Lol
@@sdlively27 Lol - is the GSN or MG Productions paying you to keep track of stats? I went on a two-season bender like six months ago and evidently made a lot of comments in the moment, few of which I remember. As previously stated, I did read up on certain things-e.g. the backstage festivities, and some panelists' bios/CVs, but not how they fared on MG and its offshoots. I've been trying really hard this time (May 2020) not to make any disparaging remarks about any of the panelists or join convos about who's annoying and why ...
@@sdlively27 Lol. There are stranger and worse things to take an interest in. It was a great show with some unique characters in a bygone era. I was just like, "Why is Rain Girl coming at me with all these facts when I'm exercising my right as an ignorant and/or arrogant American to run my mouth?" But you could probably find a way to make some money off of your efforts if you wished.
I SAY THE SAME. THEY WANT TO WIN NOT HEAR A STUPID ANSWER BY FANNIE, JOYCE, PATTI, BETTY THEY TRY TO. E FUNNY INSTEAD OF TRYING TO MATCH. THATS WHY NO ONE REALLY CALLS ON THEM.
The viewers were far more interested in watching the celebrities than they were in the mechanics of the game. Any game show that involves celebrities is about the celebrities, not the game. The contestants were well aware of that. Everybody knew Match Game was fun first, win some money second.
@@MatchGameProductions OMG - I was watching something with my BFF from our respective homes while on speakerphone and I besieged with ads (in NYC) and he barely had any (Los Angeles). I don't know how it works, but it was so unbearable I did the 30-day ad-free trial. It ended yesterday and I can't cancel. I can't go back to the constant interruption. And I bet those who do the trial and cancel are then targeted 10-fold.
@SubMan I don't think can ever go back to free RU-vid. I hate filling Google's greedy pockets, but I just can't deal with the interruptions. I, too, often fall asleep to videos (sometimes ambient music).
