I have had so much fun watching this week of shows! I loved all six celebrities, Gene was great, the contestants were attractive and charismatic, and every episode gave me multiple loud laughs! Thank you so much! 😊
At the ¾ mark of the 1975 seasons the leaders are 1. Richard Dawson 263,375 dollars, 2. Brett Somers 58,200 dollars, 3. Gary Burghoff 21,350 dollars, 4. Joyce Bulifant 17,100 dollars, 5. Fannie Flagg 15,750 dollars, 6. Charles Nelson Reilly 15,600 dollars, 7. Betty White 11,600 dollars and 8. Patti Deutsch 6,000 dollars. Total so far this season giving away 423,725 dollars, spread between 22 panelist.
Don't know if others feel as strongly about game show contestants winning - but it always makes me happy to see others have happiness. Both in participating and in winning something. At least with this show a lot of folks walked away with some cash in hand.
On the rhino, chicken question, Gene even said the answer while talking to Brett. The contestant didn't pick up on it. I caught it right away. He said chickens lay eggs.
Another little slow week but again Richard won the week giving away 10,750 dollars in head to heads and audience match matches with 10 matches for the regulars. Betty won for the semi regulars giving away 250 dollars in audience match match with 9 matches. Bobby gave away 500 dollars in an audience match match.
End-of-week H/H match recap: ... This week we only had 4 H/H matches total, 2 of which were successful: Richard 2/3, Betty 0/1 (Monday's champion didn't match any of the three audience responses and so didn't get a H/H match.) Well, today my jaw dropped when the brand-new champion choose... Betty! No one other than Richard has been chosen since episode 541, and Richard has played 14 of the last 16 times, matching on 6 of those 14 attempts. "_______ Shorts" My first thought was jockey shorts. I tend to match Betty, and today was no exception. Unfortunately, the contestant went the other direction with boxer shorts. No match today. Betty's track record still remains superior to that of the three regulars, however. Overall, kind of a sad week on the H/H front with so few winning contestants. Also sad because we say goodbye to Bobby Van who is "retiring" from Match Game '7x (today was his final show), and so his H/H stats are now complete: He scored one H/H match in 3 attempts. Looking ahead, next week's panel is all familiar faces once again. In addition to our three beloved regulars, Bill Daily returns for his third of 15 total weeks on the program, and he has already scored 2 H/H matches in just 2 attempts. One more match will promote him to the big leader board. Dr. Joyce Brothers is back as well, for her second of four total weeks. She has yet to play a H/H match. And semi-regular Patti Deutsch returns to the sixth seat! She's scored one H/H match in 2 attempts. Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 50% (9 wins in 18 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 39.0% (119 wins in 305 attempts). Brett - 38.3% (18 wins in 47 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 555, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
I just adore Sarah Kennedy. She may have the distinction of sitting in the "Dumb Blond Seat", but she's actually quite smart. Also, when Johnny was coming up to take part in the "ASP" question, did you hear Charles say " Oh, this is Johnny's" under his breath? Like they knew what the question was already. I've often wondered over the years whether the panelists knew a lot of the questions ahead of time or not. Speaking of Charles, he was hilarious this week.
Gene has said at times that he reads the question ahead of time for grammar and spelling issues but maybe for special ones they do inform the regulars.. Could be wrong thou.. ;0)
If they knew the questions ahead of time, it wouldn’t take them so long to write the answers. The show could have moved along a lot quicker. It wouldn’t have been a problem to just ask the contestants their answer and then go over to the stars and have them pull out their already filled in cards… They could then do their humor bit’s while revealing their answers. Also, it would decrease any inadvertent answers being given. Basically, I see no reason or evidence that they would have given the stars the questions previously and then concealed the fact. I think my format would have been better and less time spent writing on the air; that is, if they knew the questions in advance.
ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROF! Love ya Charles! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Betty! ;0) ROFL! It is strange but the courtship is delightful! ;0) Have you met Mrs Brett my pretty intended? ;0) Just looked my eyes, watch my lips move.. ;0) How sweet. Did you get my last letter? ;0) Do you like it up here? Isn't it better up here? I'm surprised that the question wasn't thrown out due to the fact that Gene said that the lady in the audience was cackling with laughter and also that "laid an egg" was said as well.
Well, I'm glad she won some money, but didn't she ever watch the show? There are only two answers to any Cleopatra question, "barge" or "asp," and "asp" is almost always the one. Johnny Olson was truly a master, though, and universally loved. And I think the crew got an extra $65 bucks or something, if they appeared on camera.
Maybe just tired.. I think they had one drink during the diner break or at least that what Patti said.. ;0) It got to be somewhat hard to do 6 shows in a day.. ;0)
Gay still means merry or light-hearted, etc., except that's no longer the primary meaning. Did you ever listen to The Flintstones' theme song? Women used to be named Gaye or Gay. I had a high school teacher named Gaye who wasn't anti-homosexual, but understandably was not thrilled with their choice of euphemism.
How in the world did Missy EVER get on this show!! They did it again for the 101th time. Ya knew EVEYODY was goa say ASP! which AGAI wasn't fair to the contestant (but STILL, for her not to know that)! Missy wasn't very bright was she lol
Is that tasty little morsel that goes by the name Sarah Kennedy known for anything other than match game? I can't recall seeing her anywhere else and I certainly would have remembered if I had
