This episode is very funny with lots of great moments. Gene has to go off stage to tell the production staff to not talk to the stars. We also have a very funny Super Match moment with Charles. Charles thought Cream of Wheat was the top answer. It ends up being "Cream Puff." Awesome moment! Today's Panel: Clifton Davis, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Patty Duke Astin, Richard Dawson, and Joyce Bulifant

I'm really surprised that Joyce was the ONLY one that answered table for the gum question, growing up in the 60s and 70s my friends and I would always put our gum under the counter at the snack bar we hung out at

End-of-week H/H match recap: ... Today's action: It was a close, exciting game, but our reigning champion won by an asp! (You can always tell which contestants really do watch the show at home because they know all the traditional answers.) Today's audience match question: "Cream ________ " The celebs: Charles (of Wheat), Joyce (and sugar), and Richard (cheese) The choice: Cheese The answers: And sugar (!), Cheese, Puff (!!) Our champ chose Richard the first time (no match) and Clifton the second time (match). Who does she choose this time, with $2,500 at stake? When seeking suggestions for the audience match, her choice of celebrities has been all over the place. I think she's called on every celeb at least once, so she may be a little unpredictable when it comes to the H/H match too... I knew it! I love this champion for the unpredictable way she chooses her celebs! She didn't even call on Patty for a suggestion today! Alright, this is Patty's second attempt at the head-to-head. It could be her first match... Today's H/H question: "_______ Shelf" (I immediately thought of book shelf.) After a brief moment of contemplation, Patty writes an answer that appears to be about 4 or 5 letters long. She is feeling the pressure and seems less that 100% confident though (who could blame her?). The champion says "top" shelf. I have the feeling that won't match. Patty looks disappointed when the camera cuts to her. The audience groans and boos. Gene asks what they would say and "Book!" gets screamed out, and it sounds like the audience is practically unanimous in that thought. The moment of truth: Patty fingerspells "book" and reveals her card. No match today. ~~~So we close out the week with 6 H/H matches this time (time ran out on Wednesday before the H/H, but there were two each on Tuesday and Thursday). Of those 6, only 2 won money for a contestant: Richard 1/4, Clifton Davis 1/1, Patty Duke Astin 0/1 This was a rare week with 3 different celebs playing the H/H match. (Lately we're lucky if it's even two!) The last time 3 celebs played in a single week was 641-644 (645 is a "missing" episode). That week Brett, Richard, and Betty each got a chance. (Well, Betty actually had two chances and matched both times!) Well, at the start of the week I offered my wish list: 1) Joyce to get another shot at the H/H. 2) Clifton to score a H/H match before his short MG career comes to an end. 3) Patty to score a H/H match. The first wish didn't pan out, and Joyce remains stuck in a tie with Jo Anne Worley (at 75%, both 3 out of 4). Wish #2 came through though, and Clifton Davis ends his Match Game career with one H/H match! I'm glad for him. He was a good panelist and a good player, and he'll be missed. Wish #3 was close. At least Patty got to play again, which was exciting, and I believe she gave the definitive answer to the H/H question. Patty has 10 more weeks in her MG future, so there's a good chance she'll finally score her match! Richard however remained the most popular pick this week, playing four out of the six times. Unfortunately, he only matched once this week, so he slips another tiny bit below Brett in overall accuracy. ~~~Looking ahead to next week, our three regulars will be joined by: --Semi-regular Fannie Flagg, back after a three-week absence. --Bonnie Franklin, returning for her second week (of 4), having recently made her debut (in episode 636). She wasn't selected for the H/H match during that first week. --Finally, Bill Anderson, the new kid on the block, in what will be his first of six weeks (hopefully) matching contestants from the first seat. ~~~And we'll wrap it up with the standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 50% (17 wins in 34 attempts). Charles - 47.7% (21 wins in 44 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.8% (23 wins in 55 attempts). Richard - 40.6% (158 wins in 389 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 675, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

Gene it wasn’t Vaudeville dude, your voices reading the questions made it harder for people to Match. Drove me nuts , I was in high school in 1976 and couldn’t figure out WTF he was saying on Many occasions.

I wish Dawson would just shut his mouth 👄 & stop trying to run the show. He tells Gene what what to do. It’s not his show, although he thinks it is. Very annoying.
