Match Game: Gene's Suit looks weird

Back when Gene wore his own suits before he got a clothing deal

Sometime in the 70's I saw Gene Rayburn on a Manhattan street wearing a solid pink suit. It definitely stood out, and wouldn't work on just anyone, but because of his stature and good looks, he was able to pull it off. (Also, I suppose, just that fact that he was Gene Rayburn didn't hurt.)

I think Gene is upholstered quite nicely.

We lived through the seventies. Everyone knows no one had good dress sense back then!

Oh my goodness, even for the 70's that suit was bad and they all knew it, haha! The pink shirt with the red tie underneath simply completed the ensemble. The reaction from the panelists was absolutely awesome.

I was wondering what happened to that old sofa!!! HAHA!!! Seriously, Match Game is a classic, and it needs to come back on regular TV, not just GSN (which still shows it, just not as often).

What I like especially about this clip is that all of the panelists look ahead as if to say, "No eye contact." But that could also be because they do not want to cross their eyes to solve the 3-D puzzle on Gene's suit. LOL Jack Carter is the one that finally makes the first joke about it, but just imagine how Charles would have had a field day with this one (I do not think he was a regular yet).

It IS a masterpiece! And I really mean it. No joke. :))

Betcha it's got Staingard on it too. LOL! That is the WORST looking suit I have ever seen. I grew up in the '70's and even my father wouldn't have bought something like that.....even it it was on Sale!!!! LMAO!!!

If I was to wear that suit, I think people would look at me today as a 70's reject. But I'd still want one.

You know if any Episode of Match Game is good enough to put on a DVD , then I say it is this one from Match Game 73 . Really I think Gene looked kind of cute wearing that suit ,and he sure got a big kick out of it too .

Actually "The Best of Match Game" is already out on DVD (You can find it on Ebay). They need to release more episodes to make a Volume 2 at least!

I don't know which suit was odd looking, Gene's suit on MG '73, or the suit worn by "Lucky Suit" Hal Scherer during his run on TJW in '78?
