I saw this commercial in the mid 90's in the cinema. People started screaming of joy seeing this. I think it was the first big Football commercial and in my opinion the most epic one of them all.
I also saw it for the first time in the cinema and I thought it was a preview for an actual movie and I thought this was going to be the most awesome movie ever. And then when it showed the Nike symbol and I realized it was a commercial I was soooooooo angry! 😅😅😅 But I was only angry because that means there isn't more to this. So this has become my favorite commercial of all time but there's always a tiny part of me that still sad that there isn't an entire movie 😁
With Maldini in defense the evil guys were never ever going to get through, with Ronaldo in the team the evil guys were always going to be out classed and with Cantona in the team the evil guys were always going to shit themselves. EVIL NEVER STOOD A CHANCE
Still gives me chills and I'm not a big football fan- although my Dad was a high standard ref! Even way past his prime and old he still ref'd the coors league! "Rainbow Ron" was his nickname because he was always flashing colours!
Interesting that a Nike advert features players also wearing Umbro, Kappa and Puma shirts. Every other advert with this Avengers style set up always features players that play for non-Nike teams in generic kits.
It was directed by Tarsem Singh who is a director from India and has done several notable music videos and a couple of movies that haven't been critically acclaimed but are incredibly visual, most especially The Cell, starring Jennifer Lopez and Vincent D'Onofrio. You can find the credits for this ad on IMDB listed as "Nike - Good vs Evil".
