Do you hear a ringing in your ears? Ever wonder what pitch you're hearing, exactly? Well, look no further. In this video, audiologist Matthew Allsop will help you to identify your tinnitus frequency (pitch), which research has shown is a "key measure that enables well-adjusted individualized sound treatments to suppress or reduce tinnitus sound perception". As you will see in our video about tinnitus sound treatments ("Best hearing aids for tinnitus"), below, many of today's modern hearing aids allow you to target your tinnitus therapy based on your unique tinnitus perception. So this really might be your first step in the journey to tinnitus relief! Easily Match YOUR Tinnitus Frequency: from 20Hz to 20000Hz with this Online Human Hearing Frequency Sweep.

@@davidaron4927 I got my ears tested and they found I had hearing loss on the high frequencies, low frequency was fine. When you have hearing loss, your ears try to compensate and so you can develop tinnitus. They said I could look at an hearing aid so I did. I tried all the hearing aids ranging from €200 to €4000. I found the €200 as effective as the €4000 and that’s what I bought. I don’t know the name of the one I have but I will have a look and come back to you. All I can say is, when I have it on my tinnitus is gone and I can hear soo much more. It make me soo happy 😊

While trying to educate myself about tinnitus, I found your videos, in particular "Match your Tinnitus Frequency" very helpful. Unfortunately, I live in the USA and cannot come to your clinic for consultation. I have been wearing hearing aids for about 15 years and not considered my progressing hearing loss as a particular burden. I am 84. According to the latest audiograms, I am at the stage of severe hearing loss. My tinnitus became gradually noticeable over the last 3-4 months, and was diagnosed by my ENT doctor as the result of recurring sinus infections following my getting Covid-19 in Sept 2022. It is intermittent, and most noticeable when I wake up at night with a roaring variable volume, sounding similar to when being a passenger on an airplane and the pilot keeps changing the engine thrust prior to landing. After a while, it becomes less or not noticeable. Thank you for your excellent videos which will help me when discussing my case with a specialist.

I find audio books are relaxing and quieten it down, whereas tv must have an underlying frequency that disturbs mine as I start to buzz badly. I use audio books to fall to sleep at night, I have them on very low with airbuds so no wires in the bed and mix that up with crickets at other times.

I had one day a few months ago where it was clear for most of a day. It stood out as this is the frst time I can remember it being silent. I just put up with it but that one day I was clear was really nice. Mine seems to be right ear only.

8000 hertz was my tone, almost at the point where my hearing stops hearing the tones. It's like an annoyingly high-pitched electronic whine, or having a constantly shrieking ultrasonic cat-scarer in my left ear and it not only stops me from sleeping but I feel frustrated to the point of nearly having panic attacks and I have to get up out of bed and have a walk around the house or go outside for a while until I've calmed down! I'm pretty sure this kind of thing would drive some people to commit suicide.

something between 40,000-42,000 (the sort of sound that very young children could hear from old CRT televisions, and I used to think it was the general sound of the universe's frequency sound). Sometimes ambient background but generally loud, making all sounds near and far seem as loud as each other - a room full of people talking is an absolute mixed cacophony of confusion!

Not sure which tone matches best but some were close between 3000-3500 and then 4000 and again at 7000. There were many tones which I could not hear at all near those. I have had ringing in my ears off and on all my 67 years. Tonight my right ear started ringing a bit louder to the point where balanced hearing os way off. I did nothing really out of the ordinary the last few days, I do get occasional migraines but they are rare. Will try resting and relaxing to reduce stress and if by Monday it is not better I will get to the Walk in clinic in my small town. Yes, I will also monitor other symptoms and check BP often. Perhaps my one ear is finally giving up the ghost after a long life of working in industry, fireworks as a boy and target shooting befor the advent of noise cancelling hearing protectors.

Isn't it about time given where we are technologically that tinnitus can be treated simply? I've read that it is not the ears that is the problem, but the part of the brain that processes the sound received by the ears. That said, I can remember when I was about seven and while in the complete silence of the borrego desert, I could hear what sounds like the 8000Hz point of the sweep. Maybe our ears are way more sensitive than previously thought. But there WAS that time my dad let me shoot the empty 12 ga shell off the fence post when I was very young. I was already in a squat position and it knocked my right on my ass! Not sure how I even held that 12 ga up when I think about it. But I did. I'll bet that was the start of it. Ear protection wasn't even a thought back then.

Interesting test. I'd like to have a knob that lets me dial in the frequency but I think it's in the 11.2- 11.6khz range.I hear it ~centrally, not from each ear but other people comments it makes me wonder if there are two tones in the 10-12khz range that I'm actually hearing, or maybe it's warbling a bit within a narrow range with heartbeat. I saw a video recently where researchers were studying epilepsy patients who had electrodes implanted in the brain. The were able to monitor brain waves and recreate and digitize the brain waves back into something that sounded pretty close to what was heard (pink floyd, the wall). Maybe an appropriate tech for research into tinnitus.

Between 4k to 8k, and left ear seems to be kind of blocked and painful.

The sound disappeared completely at about 3500hz. Heard nothing after that. Is that then the frequency of my tinnitus?

Not sure what I am trying to hear or not hear. Am I supposed to be listening for the frequency for when the sound seems to disappear, outside of the very low or very high ends?

When 8000 was reached it leveled with min then seems could not hear higher than 8000 making any difference then the noise in the earphones were not noticeable at 16000+

My tinnitus is between 6.5 and 7K. As the sweep hit 6.5 the audio disappeared slowly in my right ear and then switched over to the left as if someone was panning a mute from right to left and then after 7.5 K everything was centered again, I’m assuming that the audio on this video is phase flipped, correct? I am a self taught audio engineer because I am also a self taught digital recording studio producer/musician/songwriter.

listening to this on my laptop with my speakers up full, from 4.36 onwards i cant hear the noise at all, guess i have lost a lot of the higher range in my hearing? i know i struggle with talking on the tv sometimes and quite often have to ask my partner to repeat what she has said ):

I have tinnitus that occurs on both sides of my head but does not appear in the ears. On the left hand side it is a constant sizzling sound that is near to 250 mh , on the right gand side it is slightly different and has a heart beat rhythm, this side is slightly less loud . Even watching a video or tv I hear the sounds, they never go but there are occasions when there is a significant reduction in volume. I think it does affect me when talking to people, I find I am unsure about what I hear from the side or in a group conversation. Interestingly while listening to your sound effect, the tinnitus almost cancelled out at 2000 mh.
