Hello, I’m not very good at English but I’m trying to write you a letter. Is it possible if you could make a reacting to kpop idols violin skills but includes ZhangHao from ZB1 this time? ZhangHao is the very first trainee to ever win first place as a foreigner on a Korean idol elimination show. He is a violin major and he also knows how to play the piano, the viola and even the cello. It would be great if you could do a reaction includes him because ever since he won first place he is getting attacked by a lot of korean netizens just because he’s a foreigner and they are claiming that he’s actually mediocre at playing violin and that he’s overrated. I know nothing about the violin so it would be nice to know your opinions and reaction as professionals on his violin skills, thank you!

I went to a "world" festival where every booth was a different country. At the main stage they had a music demonstration from all the countries. The announcer talked a little about each instrument, the bagpipes, for instance, were so loud they could be heard over a train, so they took the microphone away. Halfway through the singular bagpiper's performance A TRAIN GOES BY. Literally right next to the tent the festival was at, seperated only by a tall chain link fence. Horn blared and everything. And yes, those bagpipes were heard loud and clear.

There are a lot of comments affirming how "loud the bagpipes are" and how they're "meant to be played outdoors"... Yes, The Great Highland Bagpipe is a particularly loud (and high-pitched) variety of bagpipe, but in terms of decibels, it is less loud than the speakers at a movie theatre or the booming bass of a car stereo. The people who covered their ears in this video are being dramatic; the sound of a bagpipe can be shrill and shocking, but there is no need to cover your ears unless you truly hate the sound so intensely that you can't stand to hear it at full volume. (Some pipers do wear earplugs when practicing, as any loud sound at close range for prolonged periods of time can cause damage to the hearing. I've been piping for 30 years without earplugs, and my hearing is just fine, so... 🤔) As for the GHB being traditionally a strictly "outdoor" instrument, that is simply not true. There are many "traditional" occasions where it is played indoors. Solo piping (and dancing) competitions are often held indoors, Burns Night (in January) is naturally indoors, weddings and funerals are frequently indoors, etc. There is no rule or tradition relegating the GHB to outdoors. I was disappointed that the piper in this video, in order to verify her piperhood, chose to play "Highland Cathedral" of all tunes! (I hate that tune; it's the most un-bagpipey tune ever written! I was hoping for a nice 2/4 march or Strathspey, anything but bloody awful HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL! 🤣)

Now I wonder which could drown the other out - the bagpipes or the ancient Celtic carnyx (also used on actual battlefields), which is reputed to have the biggest dynamic range of any instrument. Search "carnyx" on YT for some examples. I was lucky enough to hear John Kenny play a reconstructed one live at the British Museum, with the sound bouncing off the Elgin Marbles - wonderful! My daughter started viola at age 7 and continuing strong at 12! Of course, my oldest is on violin and second child on cello, so it seemed logical at the time to start her on viola.

Bagpipes are loud. That's why pipers use a practice chanter inside when they practice. It's far less loud because it doesn't have the bag and pipes.

Scottish bagpipes are definitely outdoor instruments. There are other types of bagpipes, and some can be played indoors, but not the Scots. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There are different kinds of Scottish bagpipes, and The Great Highland Bagpipe is the loudest. Other types of Scottish bagpipes (Scottish Small Pipes, Parlour Pipes, etc) are less noisy and are often played with other instruments in ceilidh bands and things like that.

So, I play the bagpipes. They are about 100dB. That's one of the reasons they have practice chanters (the part with the finger holes), so you can practice and not be deaf. And yes, I do have hearing damage.

I could totally troll them! I'm a flute player, so I could fake sax somewhat convincingly. I taught but never played marching snare, so I could at least play the perididdle rhythm that was requested- in traditional or matched grip even. I've watched enough TwoSet that I could probably hold a viola convincingly as long as I didn't have to play it. If trombone was an option I could do that one too since I played 3rd in Jazz band in high school, even though I was barely adequate and it was many years ago. I went to a small school with no orchestra, but wind band, marching band, jazz band, and indoor percussion were filled by anyone who had time to learn another instrument. It was great exposure to different styles, clefs, melody (flute, which is the violin of wind band), rhythm (xylophone/pit percussion for marching band), and playing in the middle of a chord (trombone). Each experience made me a better overall musician.

My bff has a neighbor who would play a bagpipe in the apartment complex (we don't live in the UK area or even near it). She would send me voice messages of the person playing and you could hear it without turning the volume all the way up. So yes, it is very loud. This neighbor would also occasionally play and loop the first 4 bars of Pirates of the Caribbean on piano, and only the right hand melody. I don't know which one is more annoying. (just kidding, love to all players of all instruments)

You should try reacting to foreign composers. I am curious how you would react to Ciprian Porumbescu’s Ballad for violin and orchestra, or George Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody. They are icredible pieces, and they always fill me with such strong feelings, from joy to sorrow, it brings me to tears every time

For me (cellist) clarinets give me very specific vibes like having many siblings (brothers mostly), niche (and "high IQ") interests like agriculture or chess, good grades but only at favored subjects, mischievous but knows how to get away with stuff. Appearancewise, slim, lots of knitwear, dark hair. So yeah very specific.
