Hello Sir and hi malke you both are amazing! I am really worried as now step 1 is transitioning to pass/fail and for some reason i was not able to invest and study for step 1 in the last few months but I still have a strong dream and passion towards becoming a general surgeon! I am an IMG(from india) and i am worried about the negative air that peope have for the ones who will have pass/fail in step 1! How logical is it to say that step 1 becoming pass/fail won't allow me to match into any competitive speciality?

I think usually they will do 2 fellowships, 3 at most. Never heard of 4-5 fellowships before granting limiting license.
@mededia
@mededia 2 года назад
I personally have seen people do 1-5 fellowships. It really depends on your program if they can take you as an attending after 2-3 fellowships, that should work too!

Can you elaborate more on the pathway of 2 years interventional fellowship for img did his diagnostic radiology residency out side usa ?!
@mededia
@mededia 2 года назад
IR is very competitive. Many people did it 5-10 years ago when IR was less competitive. It can still work if a program is unable to fill their IR training spot.

If possible, please interview a non-us img who matched into E.N.T haven't actually found anyone so would be of great help.

Thank you for putting out this video! I wanted to know how do I get started with research? Do I have to do electives and establish connections and take it from there? Will I need research visa? I am a bit unsure how it all works out. Thanks.

I also have the same confusion....please guide
@mededia
@mededia 2 года назад
I think so. Electives always help you develop initial connections. If you are not able to do electives, consider volunteer research. You can do volunteer research on B1/B2 visa but for long term paid research you might need a J1 visa. Good luck!

Hello Dr. Asaad and Dr. Umar. Thank you for guiding IMGs through pathways to competitive residencies. One thing that repetitively comes up is USCE, its weightage on CVs in isolation, and also for building contacts for research positions. Most universities have stopped inviting IMGs for clinical electives, and by the time the pandemic subsides, especially in third world countries, some of us would have already graduated. Agencies offering electives often don’t have slots for competitive specialties, eg plastic or neurosurgery. 😅 How do you suggest we go about that?
@mededia
@mededia 2 года назад
Try to do something to set your CV apart. Volunteer research, abstracts, case reports, presentations, meeting ppl at meetings anything... then leveraged that to get long term research and clinical training.
