Once Mater Dei and SJB went full football factory mode, there was nothing DLS could do. People think DLS is a football factory but the world is about to find out that it is exactly the opposite. A football school's admin and alumni would be clamoring for Alumbaugh's head right now after not making State. The program is now nationally irrelevant and may not win a State Open title for the foreseeable future. Trust DLS doesn't care about that stuff. If they did they never would have changed the admissions process after 2003, which had allowed them to get guys like DJ Williams, MJD, and Terrance Kelley. Those days are over.
@@sandiego1936 He'll be playing on Sundays in 4 years. Only a 3-star (how, I have no idea), but has more upside and more of a chance of seeing the field in the NFL than anyone except maybe McCoy.
@@sandiego1936 Yeah they're so stacked that it's not even fair. IMG and Bosco are the only teams that can hang with MD these days. I wonder if the CIF will ever step in and start to regulate recruiting more because we've seen the same exact result in the finals two seasons in a row now. It's just not as fun when you know it's gonna be SJB or Dei winning state every year.
@@SharksSJ408 Mater Dei has amazing depth in the secondary. Three players from Mater Dei who were preseason all-stars Jeremiah Criddell, Elias Ricks and William Nimmo didn't even play this game.. Nimmo and Criddell were hurt. That's how loaded they will be for next year also. The only teams i saw that was pushing Mater Dei DE and OL around was IMG and Bosco.. IMG had two starters kicked out of the game because they couldn't keep their cool and Bosco i don't know what happened the second time around. Mater Dei found a way to beat both.
Yeah it's pretty depressing. I was at this game and it was only 5,000 people that showed up. Can you believe two of the best teams in the nations can't even break 5,000.. This is St John Bosco and Servite High School field mostly. If it was Bosco they would of had a big ass turnout as usual.
Hell yeah. Compare it to North Shore and Duncanville in Texas and it's a huge difference. It's wack in my opinion because California has never had a "REAL" state playoffs or a REAL state champion. Mostly sectional champs and participation trophies and thats it. When California gets a real playoff format that includes all league champs from each section, then you will have a bigger vibe for an actual State Title game. Until then, they will always lag behind Texas and Florida in High School Football.
DLS is going to have a hard time winning an Open over the next few years. The Spartans match up well with Centennial, but SJB and MD are just too much at this point. Both are loaded with athletes, and are just as well conditioned and disciplined as DLS. Even if DLS were able to get more DI athletes on the team, chances are those athletes would still be playing both ways because DLS just cannot field the same monster-sized rosters as the SoCal titans. All things being equal, MD or SJB depth would be the deciding factor.
I was at the game. I have never in all my adult life seen a ref crew try their best to keep a team in the game. If there was a chance to call a penalty on MD they called it. De La Salle is not even in the same class as MD. The players on the sidelines were saying, damn this is a top 10 team. A option team had 50 yards rushing. They had more 1 yard and zero gain plays than positive plays. Being generous this should at best been a 42-10 game. De La Salle would be the 4th best team in MD league behind them, Bosco, and Jserra. Money the OC for MD consistently calls a terrible game. He has great play designs but his play calling is terrible. Mike Martinez should get at least 10 targets a game. They threw him the ball about 12 times the last 2 games they completed 11. On a 3rd and 3 they threw a 40 yard pass to Bru. They can overcome dumb play calling because they have so much talent but you can't live on that. MD just beat the #7 team in the country without the best corner in the country Elias Ricks 5 star, Jeremiah Cridell 4 star, Mase Funa 5 star, William Nimmo 4 star, Myles Murao 5 star, Huffman Dixon 4 star. Starting 3 freshman at corner and still winning pretty easy. Only two other teams in the country have as many top players as I named and none of them could lose them and still beat a top 10 team. The crazy thing is they'll be better next year. The entire o line comes back and both corners and the two corners that played tonight are freshman, 3 of the 4 linebackers comeback and 1 of the 3 down linemen and the QB. It's a problem.
LosDog stfu man we watched the game to moron. It takes Mater Dei 70 transfers and 4 De La Salle Fumbles snaps for them to win by 2 scores. And if you watch the game on TV the broadcasters explained why the refs were justified. 28/35 Mater Dei’s points came from De La Salle fumbles (2 of which were on Mater Deis redzone). If they didn’t commit these fumbles De La Salle would’ve won by a score or 2.
@@MrHavy09 Really? They were fumbling because the center was getting his ass kicked. They had about 5 plays over 10 yards. If a team can only score on misdirection and broken assignments and can't drive the ball they are over matched. De La Salle has a good system for the weak ass North, the days of them beating a South team in a final is long done. De La Salle has been getting transfers up North for 3 decades so you STFU. They will be back again for another ass whopping next year from the South since the piece of shit North can't handle them. 26 going on 27 years without losing to a North team. You could have been born and got a PHD the last team they lost to the sorry ass North. The South will defend Cali for us all. I guess we'll send De La Salle to fight the small battles the South will win the war for the state. A option team averaging 1 yard a carry. GTFOH!
@@mateosep856 The only reason we have a chance year in and year out is because of the offense we run. Our lineman are extremely undersized and when I played back in 2010-11 we at one point had a 185 pound center and a 5'6 170 lb guard. Thing is every once and awhile we will get some big boys up front like Dylan Wynn or Austin Hooper and we're pretty unstoppable when we get get surge up front. We run it for the same reason that Navy or Army runs similar offenses because we rely on discipline and not athletic ability or size to win games and have so since Lad came turned our program around 30+ years ago.
The whole team can still bench more squat more deadlift more clean and jerk more shoulder press more leg press more shrug more and have more scholarships than u
This was De La Salle's game to win. They just fumbled the ball too much, gave it to Mater Die, that's a death penalty don't give the ball to Mater Die ever, if u have a chance to beat them take it. Salle could've been #1 team in the country if they won. But great game!!
LMAO! I was at the game. De La Salle averaged 1 yard per carry. This should have been 42-7. De La Salle was so overmatched. The refs did everything they could to keep this game close. MD had over about 200 yards in penalties and half were bogus. De La Salle would be the fourth best team in MD's league at best. They had less than 50 yards rushing. This game was a joke and the CIF should be ashamed of itself for allowing those refs to call all those BS penalties.
@@sandiego1936 They are too little up front. 220 lbs lineman wont work in the Trinity league. They could get no push. They averaged 1 yard a carry. #75 was a hog but other than him they were getting killed. They had to put him at fullback from left tackle so he could get a running start to block linebackers.
DLS doesn't recruit. I'm a football player there, and I live the farthest away from the school. I wanted to go there because I didn't like Serra (all guy school that Tom Brady came from) so i wanted to play at a ranked program in Norcal. I got rejected and then in the summer i begged to go there and they let me in. They let me in but they told me I have to find a way to school. Luckily there is bart so i can take the train to school but still. They don't pay for commuting kids. But for the football part, me being about an hour away in no traffic, I thought they recruited and had talent like IMG. When I tried out, there was literally only like 15 guys that really played youth football and the other 45 guys were new. They get better every year and ive seen that with my own eyes. We would be so much better if we recruited tho.
All texas people talk about are stadiums i don't care. california puts best product on the field. Stadiums and crowds are better in socal where game should be anyway
I would like to know how in the world has DLS fallen off like they have??? I'm from Oakland but I live in chicago now and I haven't been home since I left to join the Navy back in 2001
That was NOT your typical De La Salle team! Seriously, did anyone on that team go D1???? The old school De La Salle teams always had about 2 to 3 D1 players on the team. Anyways, you could still see that the Spartans are well coached b u. They still at least made it a good competitive game.
At least 5 Texas teams can wax MD. Lol they can barely beat DLS . Trinity whooped there ass and they aren’t that good. Allen, Katy, Southlake, DeSoto, and even Austin Westlake look better. We don’t recruit either all talent from Dallas Houston and Austin area
SoCal alone has many better teams than the entire state of Texas! Wait till Mater Dei smokes Duncanville later this summer! Also Texas reams are scared to leave their back yards the chickenshits!
Not their home stadium. Beat SJB there the past two seasons (and played SJB's home game there last year, while SJB's stadium was being built), and beat DLS there yesterday, but other than that, MD hasn't played there.
@@cloroxbleach885 Yup De La Salle about 60-70% full. I was actually sitting on the DLS said because i knew Mater Dei would be full.. Bosco would of brought a bigger crowd.. Bosco is right down the street from this stadium (Cerritos College).. Mater Dei it's kinda of hike from Santa Ana so i bet alot of people stayed at watched on TV if they could..
Jeremiah Criddell, Elias Ricks and William Nimmo didn't even play this game.. Nimmo and Criddell were hurt. Rick something happened last week against Bosco but nobody will say but he got disciplined for something so he was out this game.
Off topic do you know what's really sad that of all the players that get mentioned of 60s through 2018??? Nobody ever mentions or gives a nod to my man Detlef Schrempf idk if I spelled it wrong but everybody knows who I'm talking about. It's ok Detlef I still remember you were a stand out player in the NBA.
look at the page lol all the de la sal guts neeling. down to mater dei please don't beat me. lol north shore Allen those high powered texas teams way better than materdei.
Wow those refs tried their hardest to keep DLS in. Thing I hated most about youth sports were those clearly biased refs. Ruins the game. Had to watch the offensive PI called on Bru McCoy @4:40 🧐 in slowmo... There was no push off or anything, he was on top of the DB (stacked) in that route. He just went up caught that pass over a much smaller defender who was a couple steps slower too... That version of MD was already 3 TDs and an FG better than that version of DLS.
