Thanks for sharing Nat, I use galavanised fencing wire, in 3 different thicknesses for my armatures, I have had the aluminium wire snap on me after sculpting and assembling my dolls, it is a little too fragile. I like that ball and socket armature, it would be great for the spines.
No problem, I've been making dolls for about 5 years now and made over 300 dolls, I've never had a problem with this particular wire, other aluminium wire is fragile but this one is much stronger than the rest I've come across. I don't actually like the way steel wire poses, I just find it not very fluid.
Kaye Schlenert hi! I know you commented this around 2 years ago but I’m new to the art doll community thing lol and I have chosen to start with a steel wire, do you have any recommendations on how I should twist, bend, pose etc. them. If I could get a few tips from someone with experience that would be great! Thank you!
With the ball and socket armature, I've heard that it can be a bit noisy when you move it/pose the doll. Is this true? And if so does the batting inside the doll help to muffle that noise at all? :o
How do you actually connect your armature to your resin pieces? I have a problem sometimes with my smaller dolls that the armatures will come off/out of my resin/clay pieces.
You can use hot glue and super glue to fix the armature into your resin parts and finish with some epoxy putty like Apoxie sculpt. That's how I do my dolls and I never had any problems with parts coming off.
This might come across as a dumb question, but is the jeton ball and socket armature oven safe..? There might be times when I need the sculpey to attach directly to it, so I’m unsure how to go about it…
I probably wouldn't put it in the oven as it is just plastic and would most likely melt. If you are interested I have a tutorial in my shop and on my Patreon of how I attach my armatures.
It's definitely on the list! I'll be adding a tip post to my $10 and above tiers on my Patreon in the coming weeks if you're interested in something like that.
Before I learned about what those ball and socket pliars are I accidentally literally broke off one of the sockets from attempting to snap a portion off and now i feel like theres no way to get that small broken piece off the ball (´༎ຶོ_༎ຶོ`) Uh.. anyone care to give suggestions on what to do????
They're a wholesaler so you have to contact them, you also have to spend a minimum of $500usd plus freight and international transfer fees. If you are looking for smaller quantities, I have some available in my shop at creaturesofnat.com
You use residents don't you? I wish I could afford it and use it but I can't. Any substitutes? Sorry, this is a armature materials video but it came to my mind so I had to ask
