Thanks for sharing Nat, I use galavanised fencing wire, in 3 different thicknesses for my armatures, I have had the aluminium wire snap on me after sculpting and assembling my dolls, it is a little too fragile. I like that ball and socket armature, it would be great for the spines.
@CreaturesofNat
@CreaturesofNat 7 лет назад
No problem, I've been making dolls for about 5 years now and made over 300 dolls, I've never had a problem with this particular wire, other aluminium wire is fragile but this one is much stronger than the rest I've come across. I don't actually like the way steel wire poses, I just find it not very fluid.
@kayeschlenert5905
@kayeschlenert5905 7 лет назад
True, it can be hard to bend, for fingers etc. I like the aluminum for smaller dolls and faeries. Great info :-)

Kaye Schlenert hi! I know you commented this around 2 years ago but I’m new to the art doll community thing lol and I have chosen to start with a steel wire, do you have any recommendations on how I should twist, bend, pose etc. them. If I could get a few tips from someone with experience that would be great! Thank you!

With the ball and socket armature, I've heard that it can be a bit noisy when you move it/pose the doll. Is this true? And if so does the batting inside the doll help to muffle that noise at all? :o
@CreaturesofNat
@CreaturesofNat 3 года назад
Hmm, I haven't really noticed them to be too noisy. there can be a little noise when posing but I never thought it was noisy personally.

How do you actually connect your armature to your resin pieces? I have a problem sometimes with my smaller dolls that the armatures will come off/out of my resin/clay pieces.
@Darknexea
@Darknexea 7 лет назад
You can use hot glue and super glue to fix the armature into your resin parts and finish with some epoxy putty like Apoxie sculpt. That's how I do my dolls and I never had any problems with parts coming off.

Willow Whiteraven thank you! I've used many different glues but not the epoxy, I'll try that.

Se for aquele negócio de plástico do começo, é conhecido como ball and socket armature, é bem usado em bonecos de stopmotion. E suponho que teria que importar

Dont the plastic ones squeak when moved? I had that issue with a cheaper plush with that plastic spine. Any way to prevent the squeak from moving?

Not really, I've never really experienced a super squeaky armature.

Hi, love your videos! I buy a 2mm copperwire from the hardware store and do bracelets with, would that work for inside a doll like that???
@CreaturesofNat
@CreaturesofNat 7 лет назад
Copper wire is fine too, aluminium is just cheaper, you could probably make a small doll with it. :)

This might come across as a dumb question, but is the jeton ball and socket armature oven safe..? There might be times when I need the sculpey to attach directly to it, so I’m unsure how to go about it…
@CreaturesofNat
@CreaturesofNat 2 года назад
I probably wouldn't put it in the oven as it is just plastic and would most likely melt. If you are interested I have a tutorial in my shop and on my Patreon of how I attach my armatures.
@Roseyredful

Do you have any tutorials on using the ball and socket one creatng a doll? Im confused at how to add arms and hips to that.

Before I learned about what those ball and socket pliars are I accidentally literally broke off one of the sockets from attempting to snap a portion off and now i feel like theres no way to get that small broken piece off the ball (´༎ຶོ_༎ຶོ`) Uh.. anyone care to give suggestions on what to do????

Hey, where do you buy the jeton bead things, I can find the site of the company but can't find where to buy it
@CreaturesofNat

They're a wholesaler so you have to contact them, you also have to spend a minimum of $500usd plus freight and international transfer fees. If you are looking for smaller quantities, I have some available in my shop at creaturesofnat.com
