This video is the greatest example of how simple things can be made complex, so that children who have just started maths get scared enough to proceed further.

1/5^(1/5)=5^(-1/5)=5^(4/5-1)=5^(4/5)/5

In my eyes, your 1st step is simplier than the following, so that is could be immediately used as final result. ☝

(1/5)⅕ = [(5)⅘]/5 = (5)⅘-1 = (5)^(4-1)/5 = (5)-⅕ = 1/5⅕ = (1/5)⅕ Why are you doing it? What's the point?

The final answer can be simplified to 5^(-1/5) and this can be obtained in one step, (a/b)^(c/d) = (b/a)^-(c/d) That said - I like you vids, as they show you that you can solve problems by being creative and manipulating the algebra.

Do you really believe that the final expression you wrote is simpler than the initial expression? It seems obvious to me that this is not the case. What you did was a rationalization of the denominator, but you obtained a more complex expression than simply (1/5)^ (1/5)
@superacademy247
@superacademy247 5 месяцев назад
I rational denominator is a requirement for simplification
@ytmiguelar
@ytmiguelar 5 месяцев назад
@@superacademy247 Not necessarily. In mathematics there is rationalization of the denominator but also rationalization of the numerator. It is rationalized depending on what the number is required for. An expression can be considered simpler when it includes fewer operations, this is a valid criterion.

As there are same bases in your final numerator as in denominator, it's fine to write it as 5^(4/5)*5^(-1), which equals 5^(-1/5). Coz A^r times A^s is A^(rs). Afraid, we could have arrived to this result more simply.

(1/5)^(1/5) equals to (5^[-1])^(1/5), doesn't it? Then it's a power over something, so we are only to use product of both exponents over our base, so it writes like 5^(-1/5).

If it is really simplification why not 5 raised to power minus one for the bracketed term, all raised to one fifth, so that minus one will be multiplied by1/5 to give us 5 to the power of -1/5 ?
