Jim Gard is a math teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where a former student shot and killed at least 17 people Wednesday. Gard joined CBSN to explain how he took measures to protect his students during the shooting.

Gard was one of my teachers in high school. Great guy and I know his heart was to protect and care for his students. Unselfish guy from the interactions I had with him when I was in high school.

Yes. This is the world we live in. Schools are having active shooter drills the same way my generation used to have air raid drills, because active shooters are a real threat. There was a drill scheduled for Broward County at the end of February.

she says anybody with almost cg software can do this, that the pixels are just not the same and that it's really poorly done. She said there's some other steps that are supposed to be done in order to make the pixels match up a bit better but it looks like whoever did this just didn't even bother..

For all of those saying hes evil cause he's laughing. When someone goes through something so brutal your mind dosnt know how to react, some people might cry some might be all numb and some might laugh. We all have different ways of grieving. And it's something we can't control yourself when something like this happens. So instead of hating him for his grieving procces let's thank him for saving some kids life's.

All of these past drills there have actors that have been killed more than once but our medical care is so good we now can raise the dead that is why Stanley Kubrick was there that day just as he was when NASA FAKED the moon landings! Gard definitely isn't a crisis actor but he certainly should not be praised as a hero because a student of his class, Josh Gallagher, (look him up on twitter) says that this man had locked the classrom door and didn't let him or a portion of his class back into the room after hearing the first gunshots and so they had to sit in the hallway scared out of their minds for four minutes until another teacher realised and let them into his class. During the time Mr Gard was in the classroom, he contacted a news station to let them know what was going on, all the while his students were immobilised with fear, saying their goodbyes to their loved ones just outside his door...

TalkingCheeseBurgerr You can tell a screen by blurred outlines of their bodie, notice the blurr on his arms's outline. Also they put the yellow tape on set in front of the green screen. They always lose edges of their outlines from chroma key, so they add blurr effects to compensate. Also you can actually see the green screen on the collar of the reporter.

I wonder if people had helped this kid, if those who saw him angry and isolated, had helped, maybe this would not have happened. I think just expelling him was a push in the wrong direction. I teach in an important university, and sometimes I've asked for help for a student that seemed to be in some trouble. The response is always something like "call security", "let us know and we won't let him in the school again", things like that. My response is always "I'm trying to help him; not cause more problems for him."

Guys, you need to realize something: when news crews film outdoors, they direct soft white lights at the subjects so that they are illuminated. If you've seen news reporting all the time (like I have), you'd know it. The lighting is soft yet effective, and it serves to juxtapose-whether or not it's intentional-the subjects from the background. I have seen plenty of news broadcasts in-person, and this is exactly how they do it. I think that so many people only read tweets and articles, they tend to forget how broadcasts are done. *The subjects always have light boxes pointed at themselves!*

I still say the office e staff need to do better way hung who is entering the school when the teachers and kids are in class. It is so sad. Teachers do not know who has entered the building until they are trying to lick doors and covering kids. The Principal and secretary's need to be screening g who comes on the building and stop leaving access doors that people can get in without needing to be screened. My heart goes out to the victims and all the teachers who try to protect the kids. They are amazing.

I'm sitting here reading your comments on here and amazed that a bunch of adults are picking apart this man over trivial crap ! UNBELIEVABLE....who cares !!!! He kept these in his class and kept them safe !! What I got out of this is he did everything smart and with best of intention! Every thing from keeping the kids from sending out their location to making the authorities show badges before he opened the door .
