They wont be back...and they are - as gorgeous as they might be - the most faulty product to ever leave the chinese assembly lines where mathmos had the electronics thrown together. Also Mathmos decided to deliver the ac dc converter with switched polarity just like the lunar/solar eclipse so if it dies or gets lost and you plug some other 12vdc supply into the (not)smart(at all) Astro it will also die instantly...isnt that convenient?! It's easy to repair, but only if you can solder smd. Mathmos lost a LOT of money on this desaster of a lamp and patents are in the way of a full range rgb astro...this is if you run an official company...Private smart monkeys can do what they want though...which I did ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fv2-nZiQT7U.html
my experience owning one regardless if its a "re release" they all have issues hence why they were taken off of production. mine was a supposed "re release" and it got overheated in legit 4 hours. and thats in a room temperature environment away from heat sources. i couldn't imagine having this near a heat source it would prob either burn out or explode honestly.... my advice as neat as they are just remember if you buy one you WILL have issues it might be its power chip on the motherboard will go rather quickly OR it will just overheat way too quickly i have returned mine to the original eBay seller they weren't happy but them things are just faulty. yes very neat to watch when they finally get moving but it wont be long before you have to turn it off.
It doesn't use a bulb, it uses a heating plate, along with color changing LEDs to provide the color changing light. But the design was faulty, which caused many Astro Smart lamps to break, and eventually had them all recalled by Mathmos who discontinued the product.
