I agree and grew up with the original movie, but I highly recommend the musical!! It’s very catchy and another cool way to view the story :) PLUS THE SONGS ARE SUPER CATCHY
Going with an adaptation of the musical and giving it its own feel and style is an A+ move. Obviously people will compare it to the 1990s film, but this feels like it's really trying to do its own thing.
@@user.0704 the original west side story (won 10 Oscars), Chicago (won best picture), La La land (led in nominations that year), all that jazz (won the Palme d’Or), Mary poppins (won best picture), inside Llewyn Davis, Dancing in the dark, lion king, a star is born. All of these are almost universally acclaimed musical films. Sure, a huge amount of movie musicals are garbage, but Oliver certainly isn’t the only one that’s good
I grew up with the original movie and loved it as a kid. It’s great that the new movie is based on the musical. It feels like another adaptation of the book instead of a traditional remake. Can’t wait to see it.
@@miac2382 l don’t know, sometimes the trailers can ruin the actually movie, or either the advertisement like the one where Snow White is only thing when she wears her red shoes
Edit: Can see there’s actually a lot more enthusiasm for this now, it’s fair enough if you disagree with the below comment. I think we should wait and see cause there’s a great creative team behind it! Good Lord people, do some research before you comment. This isn’t a remake of the original film it’s an adaptation of the stage musical by Tim Minchin. It was a smash hit on broadway and in the west end.
@@DaveDexterMusic I was really speaking to the comments implying this was a rip off remake of the 90s movie. This isn’t Zemeckis’ Witches remake which was simply for the sake of it, this is a completely different beast, with a pre-established source separate from the movie.
Obviously, picking up, let alone reading a book, seems to be beyond some peoples ability. Yes it’s based on a ‘book’, a great book, but today’s generation cannot get their heads around literature being a source for great adaptations!
it’s based off of thr musical which is one of the most successful shows of all time! it’s actually much closer to the original book than the americanised movie!😊
"Quiet" is one of my absolute favourite songs from any musical I've ever seen or heard. I can't wait to see and hear how this movie portrays it (and the reveal of Matilda's powers in general).
The 90s movie is one of my favorites of all time, but the musical is seriously amazing, too. I'm so excited we're getting an adaptation of it! Now we just have to hope Netflix doesn't ruin it X_x
@@georgew1466 I’m grateful that I was part of this incredible new movie! You will enjoy it’s not a remake!! It’s the musical version so it’s the same storyline but all the songs and dances from the musical! Coming out December xx
I saw Matilda at the Cambridge theater on London’s west end, back in the fall of 2018, and thought it was the best musical I’d ever seen!!! After seeing it, I wanted everyone to see it! I’m beyond ecstatic that it’ll be available to everyone to see this fall. If you can, see it in the cinema!
I saw the it about I think 6 or 7 years ago in playhouse square (Cleveland) with my grandpa I loved it! I felt a bit of nostalgia seeing this trailer because it reminded me of that time I’m honestly excited to watch this idc what anyone says lol
My theater group and I were so proud to perform Matilda The Musical on a small tour a while back, and I couldn’t have been happier getting the role of Matilda Wormwood herself! This movie will definitely bring back some nostalgia, and I cannot wait to sing “Naughty” and “Quiet” while watching it on the big screen! :)
Same! I played in a small production as well, it makes me so excited to watch this and sing along with all of the songs lol! They have been plaguing me for a long while-
@@laronsmart9086 well it's not a 'movie' theater, it's theater as in musical theater really. you could try looking up local theater groups nearby and see what you find! On top of that you can also look up places that might teach acting classes, I've been to a few. It's all about finding them I guess and being lucky enough to have access to them. Sometimes schools have programs for theater but if you don't go to school or are out of school it's best to look around, like nearby towns or cities, better yet finding people nearby who have the same interests as you and can help you on where to find good classes or groups!
I acted in this musical years ago and honestly I feel happy of this movie, it’s not the remake but instead it’s based on the musical, personally I feel honored bc it brings the memories of all the process when I participated on this amazing musical
@@urmomssidechic i played quite a lot of roles on the musical due to some people leaving the cast tbh but one of them was the librarian which was my main character and i love it so much
I have a good feeling watching this. I'm not trying to judge too much because you never know. But it being a musical vs the original and having a different feel to it. I'm excited! One of my childhood favorites!
When you have been subjected to decades of gaslighting, degeneracy, propaganda and filth from modern media and those that run it, you simply begin to lower your standings and objective expectations. You see something that isnt directly pissing in your face and only has a few objectionable things and actually feel appreciative and hopeful. Until that hope is eventually and always shattered
At first I was like, oh no a new Matilda but we already have a movie. Then I saw it's based on the musical and I love the songs from that, also from the clips in the trailer I'm liking the cinematography
A lot of this looks really interesting like Emma Thompson actually looks like a decent Trunchbull and I kinda like the way the Wormwood parents look and as someone who never got to see the musical, I'm excited to be able to watch this for the songs. However, like with any new adaption, I'm also skeptical. Mostly because I don't always like the acting performances of the current child actors/actresses.
@nemo pouncey im not though, ur the one who said that like anyone was trying to beat the og trunchbull😭, this movie isnt even based off of the other one idk why yall feel the need to compare the characters
Original Matilda movie was gifted by my parents in Christmas in the 90s the vhs tape and we watched it together in Christmas Day so it will always have a special place in my heart.
I’m relieved it’s an adaptation of the musical. Danny Devito‘s version was just so perfect I didn’t think there was a need for another version. With the only exception being the musical. I’m just disappointed they couldn’t get the guy who was on the Broadway version to play the Trunch. And if they had to go with a Woman I would’ve much rather have seen if they could get Pam Ferris to return to the role.
Seeing the word "musical" and the name Danny Devito in the same congregation of letter formed by a human or animatronic being automatically makes me internally recite the troll toll. Then when I finally stop with that I verbally do the UH-AHHHH! from Dayman 😂🤣🤟
My mum got me tickets to see this show as a Christmas gift one year, and this is one of my sister’s favourite west end shows! We all can’t wait to see it on the big screen! Can’t wait!
I am SO EXCITED!! I grew up with Matilda and it was MY FAVORITE movie growing up, I am so excited for the broadway adaptation instead of a 1/1 reboot of the 90's movie!
You do not know how excited I am to know that this is coming out- I went through a huge Matilda: the Musical phase when I was younger so I'm looking forward to seeing how they adapt it for the screen and to be able to experience the story (and belt out the songs with the movie) at home!!!!!!!
i LOVE that theyre adapting it from the musical! i love the musical itself and i think it will make this remake alot more refreshing than traditional remakes/adaptations
@@SimonpaulcookScook , it was a book originally, and they changed the setting from England to America. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I’m glad it’s getting its due in its proper setting.
My baby sister teaches Inglis to 1/6 grade children, and They told her that when She wares black dress it remind them of Matilda and Wednesday too.❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
as someone who has been in the musical and seen it professionally on west end (british version of broadway) im so so so excited to see a musical movie version of this amazing movie/musical
Omgggg this looks awesome !!!! I’ve never seen the musical but Matilda and A little Princess are two movies I watched the hell out of ! Can’t wait to see ittttt ! ❤❤❤
I've always wanted to see the musical but haven't had the chance so I'm very intrigued by this. Also I am glad they say this is an adaptation of the musical and not a remake of the original movie. I'm down for a remake of the original but only if done right. I like how some plays are becoming movies so if you don't live somewhere where plays are a thing you can still see a movie version of the play.
@@yMeNorDoFluXox it's better than the "original" for the old movie very much Americanized the book and as the book reader it disappointed me, Do you think deleting your comment will stop me from replying?
when I heard about a new movie adaption I was very sceptical and did not think that they should touch the old movie with a remake. But making it like the musical version makes me quite exciting. They arent "replacing" the old movie but make it something completely different, and from what it looks like so far, I like it and will watch it for sure.
I remember singing revolting children in choir for a competition in high school 3 years ago and it just stuck with me. I'd definitely love to watch this and feel nostalgic again
My first thought was why would they ever remake Matilda. The OG was perfect. Then I realized it was a musical, and I think it’s the movie I’m most excited for this year 😂
@@AgussxVenus and why a musical for this story can't be touching? Have you never listen to "Quiet"? It's one of the most beautiful and touching songs ever.
We saw this on my daughter’s 13th birthday, 9 years ago. She’s called Matilda too. We love anything by Tim Minchin and are huge Roald Dahl fans. Feels like we’ve been waiting forever for this to come out. ❤️❤️❤️
This looks fantastic. I love the American version but glad they have made the original British story into a feature length and based on the musicals. Loved the book and can’t wait to see it
I’m liking this style of remakes tbh. The Witches remake was amazing because it didn’t just copy the first film, which did get kind of boring. It took a new approach and made it more unique and new.
Okay at first I saw this and thought "oh great a remake we didn't need! The movie was fantastic why ruin it?" And my jaw is on the floor. This looks fantastic. I can't wait to see it
I saw the Broadway show in New York and it was so amazing so I am very excited to see this on Netflix!! Of course I grew up watching the Danny Devito Matilda and it’s one of my favourite movies of all time.
What is her appeal though I wonder? I just have this indifference about her. That voice of hers is certainly off putting. She certainly doesn't have a beautiful speaking voice like Keeping Up Appearances Patricia Routledge or The Avengers Honor Blackman.
It’s a movie based off the musical that’s based off the original movie that’s based off the book, if it gets a book (sing along or just picture) it would come full circle
seeing Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchball at 00:57 gave me goosebumps, like I had a Vietnam flashback to all the horrid teacher I had to deal with when I was young. I think she's going to be excellent
