It feels like the Matrix is getting the Terminator treatment. It told the story it needed to with the trilogy. Anything else feels unnecessary.

The obvious direction of the franchise is to go backwards, as Morpheus tells Neo, "...there was a Man born inside, he could change things with his mind, he freed the first of us and taught us the truth.." We got the Animatrix's New Renaissance I,& II but there's a lot of room for story in between the Matrix's birth,& that opening film.

They should just make it about the real world where humans actually made the matrix, where they imprisoned humans in a neural network to train sentient Ai, where Neo actually is a machine learning Ai log which purpose is to update the matrix with the data the imprisoned humans input.

I’m up for it. The matrix was the first film I ever saw in the theatres in 35mm. I’m glad they seem to be going in a new direction with drew Goddard. He did a such a phenomenal job with daredevil and he is a passionate director.

This sounds like it could end up like Dial of Destiny. A creative with 20 years of solid projects gets the chance to make a new installment in a beloved franchise but corporate executives meddle with the film excessively and the result is middling. This is Warner Bros. and not Disney so there's more hope that this can be Goddard's vision and not the studio's though

That’s a good point about the original trilogy, it was groundbreaking and amazing, but they couldn’t really figure out where to go with the story. The world is still destroyed and humanity is still stuck in the Matrix. But I guess at least they left it open for future stories. Matrix 4 was a disaster, whatever they make going forward shouldn’t even acknowledge Matrix 4. Totally agree they need to reboot/refresh. A new director is a step into the right direction.

I definitely think they should do a REBOOT !!! Obviously!!! The storyline of NEO was finished in revolutions, NOTHING ELSE. I definitely would like to see a matrix movie that takes place in nowadays with other characters, another protagonist but everything based on the concept of the matrix. And see how the matrix would control people today FOR EXAMPLE using cellphones and social media to keep people attached to the matrix, a really cool social satire etc. nice action sequences that we actually understand what’s going on. I love Keanu reeves and his character NEO but I do not think he will want to continue this franchise without the wachowskis. Besides, like I said his storyline is finished!!!! So a reboot is the best way to go.

Star Wars Gets their own Universe, So it would be great for A Legendary Story and Universe like The Matrix to have it's own. Anyone who doesn't want more of The Matrix isn't a Real Matrix Fan since Enter The Matrix, Or Path Of Neo, And wants The Matrix to fade away into Forgotten Memories. With Drew writing and directing the film it gives me a lot of hope it will be a good movie (loved Bad Times and Daredevil) now as for the story I hope it involves Keanu and Carrie in some capacity and not a straight up reboot.

I think they should go into full reboot mode. As much as I love the original film, the sequels go down a path we, except for Dwight, did not want, so if they were to redo that story and actually take it in a direction that fulfills the basic premise with some updated visuals, I think it could be awesome.

TBH I'm looking forward to it. it's a matrix film. no offense to the wachowski's but they just lost control of the matrix thing going back to reloaded. idky but they just didn't deliver on the lofty expectations set by the original and they never quite recovered. I sooooooo agree with you, the deconstructing of their mythology was just suicide. idky they did that. this was their star wars and they mucked it up! not many get the chance to do what they achieved and they...... punted. I mean what the hell. What the hell!! They could have been gods. not liking them became a passion n my life and because of that I missed out on some truly great movies like the cloud Atlas which is what I believe to be the greatest movie ever filmed. I honestly have never seen a 3hr pus movie that kept me locked to the screen like that before. it's a hell of a film. but their matrix films have all detracted from the brilliance of the original.

I agree the wachowskis messed it up too much over three sequels. There really is no reason to make more matrix movies. Even with good ideas. Honestly the I through this last one’s best chance was to be the idea of different iterations of the matrix. Completely different casts. But that being said the matrix is one of the best lore ideas for a giant open world massive online multiplayer. Like the enter the matrix game but give it the elder scrolls online treatment.

That assumes the point of a movie is to top what came before. I don’t think a movie has to top what came before to be worth existing. If the original is 10 out of 10 and impossible to top, a 9 out of 10 Would still be a great movie….even if it can’t top the original I would say the question is “is the chance of a 9/10 worth the risk of a bad movie which could tarnish the franchise more?” …that I don’t know

What makes this announcement genuinely odd (though I suppose not surprising) is the mentality that seemed to go into Resurrections. Based on everything that I read, it felt to me that after a decade plus of being asked continuously by fans and the studio to make another Matrix movie, only one of the Wachowski sisters answered the call and said "You want another Matrix movie? Fine, here's another Matrix movie!". And no, I'm not suggesting she set out to make a bad movie, I'm saying she went extra meta on the narrative and made certain decisions in the film to make sure nobody would ever ask them for another project in that universe again, so they both could move on to other stories they wanted to tell. In short, I hope that Drew Goddard has a good idea and is able to sustain his track record, but this movie shouldn't have been greenlit in the first place.

I can see two ways this could go. There are more, but I have two minutes to write this. 1. More adventures in the Matrix, whether in the past or future. 2. Some new brain burning idea that can permeate society. The first Matrix movie introduced an interesting idea--the world is a simulation and you are a battery. Reloaded and Revolutions continued the adventure in the Matrix and real world with the arc of The One. Resurrections continued on with these characters in a constantly rebooted Matrix world and how Neo and Trinity are powerful together. I don't know what I want exactly. I love Keanu Reeves but I don't want to see him there. I enjoyed the discussion the Reboot It crew had about The Matrix and where you could go.

The original Matrix felt claustrophofic, even the last one felt that way! If he's going for the continuation of the series, we don't know how that world really looks like, either on earth or in out of space. How are human beings and machines coexisting together? We don't know! So just by those facts alone, I think there's a lot to be explored here. Maybe a bad thing, but I hope that this new series can give us what Blade Runner 2049 didn't in terms of expending the world and the "mythology". In our real world now, in the new era that we're about to embark with A.I/bots/AGI and things we have no idea are even conceived of, (in the Putin interview with Tucker Carlson, human engineering was "briefly" mentioned by Putin and I've heard it nowhere else except in the Joe Rogan show, even then it seemed far fetched that we'd even go in that direction as a species, but if Putin is talking about it, who knows...) I think Franchises like the Matrix or Blade Runner even anime are more than ever needed.

Matrix 4 was nothing but an f you to Warner Brothers. Movie shouldnt even be canon. Im down for anything from the mind of Grew Goddard

Not a huge Matrix fan, and I haven’t seen the other Matrix films, but seeing as how apparently each one got worse and worse, with the last one being the worst one apparently, doesn’t feel like the franchise should continue...

We don’t need groundbreaking. We need king fu in the Matrix and good storytelling. The second film was quite good and they kind of fumbled the ball with Revolutions. The fourth was made bad on purpose and. Just do what we want. It’s not that hard I think.
