Go to preferences by clicking on any cog wheel. Once it's open click on Dynamic Commands. Then look at the list and uncheck enabled wireframe when a command is running.
I have found knowledge about each command and options in the command line are the best way to figure things out. If you know the commands and their options, you can usually work out how to do what you are wanting done. It really gives you more options when you run into a problem.
