I took a quick day-trip to Bend Oregon on Thursday September 22 2022 to visit Ruby, my RV-8 N998RV currently getting the full paint treatment at Cascade Customs & Design (CCD). Jeff Chorney was also there getting 4k video of the process for the forth-coming documentary video we are producing on the story of Ruby Vixen.
The Black and Gold (9 coats!) were complete and they were spraying the Red coats on while I was there. The wings and fuselage got a number of coats during my visit along with the controls, spinner, and wheel pants.
The freshly sprayed the base coats are flat and the metallic flakes are not really visible
The lettering has multiple layers of the three main colors. I put a lot of design work into stylizing the font and shadowing. It was so awesome seeing my graphic design coming to life on the vertical fin, fuselage, and wings!
I'd say my Inspection Visit #2 was a raging success and I was so pleased to see the progress and attention to detail CCD has been putting into my project. People will have to wear sunglasses when viewing Ruby in the sun!
I love the colors I picked! CCD has so faithfully reproduced my dream perfectly. I can't wait to see the finished product in two weeks (October 10-14) when we head back to Bend Oregon to pick her up and bring her home!
Steven and Brian Bird of Cascade Customs and Design have been a dream to work with throughout this project, and the results are nothing short of Spectacular!
