Seriously awesome that one of the best drummers in the world posts drum cam videos of complete, unedited live sets with one of the best bands in the world.
In a similar vein, Polyphia's always posting official playthroughs of their shit, Clay's drumming too, which is awesome. Love the emphasis on creating digital content these bands have nowadays.
Very thankful to have such easy access to legendary drummers like this. I had to pay like $60 for Dave Weckl videos back in the day. Thanks Matt for the free access. Happy to return the favor in the form of album purchases, merch and live tickets.
Just did that after literally wiping my tears of joy after this video. Thank you Matt for the cam and the excellent non saturated, well balanced sound of your drum part. After listening to this video I just pre-ordered the Parrhesia Gold Nugget Vinyl and bought the Grid Dye T-Shirt just so I can have a dyed shirt too! 👕🤩
Yeah it was my first concert too as well as my first time seeing AAL Live. I'm in the very front. Burgundy shirt. It was rough being up there lol Definitely dope meeting Matt. He's a cool dude.
When they came to Dallas, the crowd was able to get it too. I was impressed. The only time I had ever seen someone get a crowd to successfully engage in polyrhythmic claps was on Snarky Puppy’s tiny desk performance on RU-vid. 😂🎵🎶🎵🎶👏🏾
Matt Garska is so inspiring! He's inspired me to quit playing drums. Seriously, Matt is already considered one of the greatest drummers ever, and he's still so young.
I’m convinced this guy is one of the best drummers alive right now. Holy guacamole! Matt, you are a true master of your craft and I can’t wait to see you live.
Nothing against any of these musicians at all, but I vastly prefer listening to this versus the studio recorded material. It is a result of what is expected from the genre, but I love that I can actually FEEL and HEAR what Matt sounds like. All of the dynamics and beautiful touch. The studios often strip a lot of that away from these types of bands. That's not to say that the level of production on the records isn't impeccable, I just wish modern metal and rock production allowed the true sound and deft of touch of the musicians come through. Incredible stuff!
It's amazing to me how much Tempting Time has evolved over time! I remember when the album first dropped, people talking about "good luck finding a human to play these drum parts".
I saw them with a previous drummer one of my first times seeing them.. I'm not sure which drummer it was. From what I understand they had a cpl. I remember they played Tempting Time cuz it was of my favs back then... I do remember the drummer as well as AAL as a band I would go keep seeing...For a loooong time... Friggin Amazing band. And Matt's just next level. Perfect fit.
Even outside of this video (which is obviously drum-centric), Matt really seems to be stealing the show. This latest album is the icing to that cake - he deserves all the love and attention! I say this as a lifelong guitarist and gigafan of Tosin & Javier
i'm gonna watch this at least 10 times in its entirety, or just my favorite songs in it, in the next like 2 years I already know, always go back to that 2019 drum cam that's on youtube even though its potato quality, thanks for posting
I was there! First time seeing AAL and holy shit did they deliver. Matt’s drumming is otherworldly. Shout out to Nate from Intervals who also crushed it.
one of ; if not the greatest drummer alive.. such a mind blowing , out of this world experience just to watch this for free.... thanks sir matt gartska!
@@billmint8122 Because when the video was uploaded 9 hours ago, the setlist wasn't up yet in the description of the video along with the scrubber. This was for us early birds who watched the video right after it was uploaded.
I guarantee you 90% of the fans in the crowd have no idea what a talent Matt is. I know they respect and love the sounds and rhythms he creates but he is on another level and makes it look so easy. The coordination and precision is insane! Although I was happy to hear some guys scream out that they love Matt at the intro of a song haha
@TeflonTwan I don't mean that ad a low blow to the band at all. I mean his talent is so high up there, I just hope they know he's very rare and it's an honor to watch a band like them live. Guess I didn't word that very well. My bad. Much respect to Animals As Leaders. They are all phenomenal artists.
I think that people that are into this kind of music are most likely musicians themselves, or at least artists of some sort, so I think they are hip to the level of musicianship and hard work all of the members have put into their respective instruments. But, I think the spirit of your post is true in the sense that Matt (as well as the other members) is beyond amazing and most of what Matt is doing is beyond the full understanding of most people (including most musicians) because he is that advanced and has put that much thought into each song and drum part, etc... Hopefully that made sense. I am just grateful to see so many people appreciating this kind of music. I have spent a lot of time feeling disheartened at the attention and accolades that certain pop musicians get for churning out awful one-dimensional songs, so to see a band like this getting the attention they deserve and to see how respectful and thoughtful all of the comments have been for their videos has given me some faith in humanity. Also, just wanted to add, that sometimes Matt makes it look easy, but other times he makes it look super hard because you can see him putting every ounce of energy and focus into keeping it from spiraling out of control, which I appreciate. I can see that he spends a lot of time riding that fine line between being in control and stretching his limit for growth. Super impressed by this band and this drummer. He makes me want to quit and practice more at the same time.
@MattGarstka Thanks so much for posting this! It is incredible to see what it looks and sounds like to play an entire show at a world class level. Drums are raw and un mixed... it revels so much about your playing. No hiding, and yet its freaking perfection!!!
Truly mirror of yor hard work = strength and endurance on your technique. Lots of time there. We are lucky enough to see you while you creating more music alive as a generation : )
Hearing monomyth sounds like someone dicking around not knowing at times what they’re doing but we all know that what he is doing is absolutely out of this world!!!!!! Literally two brains!! ❤
So freakin good, it's absolutely inspired playing, it really is. Me and a drumming buddy of mine get together every few weeks to watch drum vids on youtube and this was my favourite from our last session. Those left-hand hat and splash accents in Physical Education make me want to jump around the room! 🤣🤘
We miss you guys in STL! Please, come back to The Pageant! We were heartbroken when it didn't work out in April of 2020. We're HUGE fans! Your transcripts and exercises are invaluable! 🤘🤘
if you think about all the time wasted listening to a song over and over and over again to learn wtf a drummer was doing, then compare it to watching him play it. Wow. No wonder there are so many great drummers now, younger too. Its great.
such a monster here!! matt one of the best .. he has been working hard trough the years i remember watch some videos when he join to AAL .. ND NOW HE BECOME A REAL MONSTER OF DRUMMING. much respect and thanks matt for this kind of videos very inspiring for the mortals hahaha
Thank you. If I wasn't broke I would give you something. So this will have to be enough for now: I don't know what is cooler, your playing or the knowledge that this music has a place in history with everyone in that crowd - and now me. I will never forget you guys. If the world is still viable when I'm 90 I will be playing this back. The craftsmanship involved here is on another level. This is what I imagine when I dream of musicianship.
The price if everything and the value of nothing, Unbelievable dude. Pinnacle of musicality and drumming! Wish I could have seen you guys live this go around.
was at this show, probably my 4th or 5th time seeing AAL. by far and away their best performance ive witnessed.. the cleanliness, the tone, the WEIGHT. amazing set boys
Was at this show one of the bands I always seem to miss when they came to my town, but finally had the chance to see them & the musicianship with them 3 is just unreal
It's so weird to watch somebody who's the same age (to the day 4/27) being a literal god on stage. I'll never stop being amazed at the sheer skill. 🤌🏻🤘🏻
I am at a loss for words. The performance, endurance and technicality on display here is arguably unrivalled in today's prog-metal. I am no drummer, but this has surely got to be one of the most impressive sets available on RU-vid Can't wait to catch AAL on the road again later this year. It's going to be special
this is the ultimate high for a drummer what a unit, matt has replaced lang as my fave timelord, punchiest accents n chops in town, what a great time and peak for music, thankyou matt for sharing
