My own composition written to accompany this incredible drum solo from one of my favourite drummers. Video filmed and produced by Meinl Cymbals. Original video: • MEINL DRUM FESTIVAL 20... Facebook page: / alastairtaylor777
Art Of Drumming HQ Dude, i swear on my fucking head, i’m blasted on acid rn and i was about to make a comment about those wobbly effects being fuck sick and perfectly in sync with the music This is pure fucking amazement and thank you Alastair fucking Taylor cause you’re indirectly fueling it haha
Whoa! Incredible composition! Not everyone can do what you just did. Seriously, this take great talent, amazing ears, and creativity! Bravo/amazing job! Respect! Carlito
Oh my god, thank you. You're drumming is unreal! I've just seen your septuplet flam exercise and it blew my mind. So glad you liked the video. You're insane!
Alastair Taylor man anytime! Seriously love this! You’re super talented! Hey if you ever want to throw a track my way I would love to give it a whirl. Incredible stuff!
Second this 100%... This is absolutely incredible. You clearly poured your heart into this. Must have taken hours to get just right! Everything is SO tastefully orchestrated... Respect +1, man!
I never noticed before, maybe it's because I wasn't very familiar with the concept yet, but there is a part made noticeable by your piece that shows Matt very clearly doing some Metric Modulation in his usual style. If you listen to the stuff he's been doing lately with Joshua De La Victoria (Modern Value is the Best Album of 2018 LOL) he talks a about metrically modulating using accent patterns, a method he learned from Efrain Toro, as opposed to the usual methods. It's at my favorite part of the video too. At 6:10 he starts a groove in 7 counted as 4433 (1234 1234 123 123) and it becomes much more noticeable at 6:17 then at 6:35 he Modulates to 5 counted as 3322 (123 123 12 12) That makes me appreciate this video even more. Had it not been for the piece Alastair wrote I wouldn't have even noticed that at all and would've just looked over it as just a groove in a solo. Thank You again Alastair and keep up the good work. I'm also curious if you ever considered doing Richard Spaven's Solo from the MEINL Drum Festival.
Wow I thought this was Matt playing over a song at first, and then I realized this was composed OVER A SOLO. This is unreal levels of awesome, great job.
What's crazy about this is that it reveals a lot about Garstka's composition and phrasing while soloing. You can hear structure and maybe what he's thinking while improvising. Great stuff!
I've always wondered what a band like AAL would sound like if it was centered around the drums instead of guitar. This is it, this is what that sounds like. Awesome job.
This is absolutely ambitiously incredible. To take a highly complex drum solo and compose a high quality composition over it is just amazing. I can't imagine the level of skill and creativity it took to make this. Matt Garstka needs to see this!
Thank you, I’m really glad to get so many positive comments like this. Matt has seen it actually, I sent him an email when I uploaded it, he replied back the other day and shared it on Facebook both on his profile and on the Animals as Leaders page. I couldn’t believe it!!
funny you mention that. watching this i legit thought "this is music of the future" and honestly the more i think about it the more it makes sense to me haha
So I have seen this video about 10 times, and I just now realized that he wasnt't playing to a track at all, and that this was written to the drums. Incredible work!
Wait, I thought HE was playing to the music, not the other way around. I really cannot believe how perfectly you accompany and highlight the feel of the solo. This is not something I have experienced before.
I know nothing about time signatures or drumming whatsoever. I really dont. But even while I dont understand it at all, this is insane. It´s amazing, the composition with the other instruments is just out of this world.. Shivers down my spine.
Holy shit, I thought he was playing this with the recording and just realised this was overdubbed after watching the whole thing... what the hell dude, this is awesome!! :D
This just became my new favorite video. You best believe that I'm gonna be listening to this nonstop. This deserves infinite likes and Matt is my favorite drummer...Incredible stuff bro. My favorite part for sure has got to be from 6:10 to 7:30 especially with groove change at 6:38 the bass at 7:07 . Just don't stop man, you've really got something great going on here.
Alastair Taylor No, thank you. I'm Actually listening to it right now but I've been showing this video to all of musician friends and they loved it especially my drum friends. If I didn't tell them, they would've thought that this was the original video. I might've thought it was the original video if I hadn't already seen the solo.
Alastair, you composition, made the drum solo not a drum solo anymore, its sweeter! this is mind blowing, Matt will be relieved to see at the end that his mistakes were nothing, he should stop doing those faces as they were not mistakes actually, you sorted them out nicely, well done!!!
u too man, I gotta admit I'm getting addicted to this compositions upon all these amazing drum solos. specially the one from virgils 4/4 , that one is unreal. this one is pretty awesome too.
Fantastic! It takes so much effort and talent to compose something as complex but musical and easy to listen like this! Awesome as in Virgil's video!👌👊🏼
difficile de ne pas oublier de remercier Mr Alastair Taylor pour cette compo avec une telle performance!!!!J aimerais bien que Marco Minnemann s'y colle...respect to Alistair ans big up for Matt, thx dudes
The more modern younger generation of drummers know who this guys is for the most part, he's pretty young in the scene and has been quite successful despite that I'd say
Wow, I thought the Nate Smith Pocket Change video was great...and then I saw this...definitely taking it up a notch, and then some. Alastair Taylor you have some serious talent! I'll be listening to this for a long time.
This is so good, it's scary. Genius. Incredible.. I'm finding it difficult to not pee while bowing down to the greatness of this composition... Flabbergastric anomalous brain power level space choochoo.... Hieroglyphics.......... oh mommy This video changed me in a very good way... Thank you Alastair Taylor.
I'm just an amateur drummer with a Dave Weckl background of study. But ever since I heard "CAFO" by Animals as Leaders I've been paying close attention to Matt Garstka... I love his next level approach to developing drum lines. And then you, Sir, compose this piece of music over his solo... it rendered me speechless, and opened a new avenue to study and have fun with music.... I am beyond grateful. tytytytytytytyy
Stephen Burke hey man, yeah Cafo is amazing, but it isn't Matt Garstka behing the drums of this first AAL album, it's another incredible Matt, Matt Halpern
Really amazing, amazing work! It is obvious that you have a lot of creativity and talent. But, in my opinion, above all, you have a vision: an incredible (aural) vision! Another thing: your work emphasizes the drum solos of phenomenal drummers like Matt: their musicality, their structure, their diversity!
This is fantastic! Your music gels very well with the drums, in a way that complements their dynamics, phrasing, and textures. It's also very impressive that you match Matt's tempo modulations so accurately, which I imagine would've been difficult because you couldn't quantise any of your notes. Also, regardless of the context that it's been inserted into, your music is very cool in its own right! Please feel free to make another one of these :)
