I think whats dragging the new Top Gear down is that they only found one third of the trio. Matt fits in, but its the other wankers they put him with that just doesn't jive.

I am brand new to top gear as in the last few weeks had never watched an episode. The first episodes I watched were of the old guys who are no longer with the show and this is the first episode I've seen with Matt hosting. In general he seems to be a fine host but in comparison to the old guys he sucks.

Scott Lesley Not really, especially with the new trio, Matt, Chris and Rory. I'm looking forward to it. The grand tour meanwhile is kinda disappointing, sure it has it's moments but it feels very scripted and is FAR less focused on cars compared to when the trio were in Top Gear.

+1001speedster I know this is a late reply, but can I just say it's so good to finally hear someone who doesn't worship the Grand Tour like it's a relic from the gods. I've been a fan of Clarkson, Hammond and May for a long time, but having seen TGT, so far I too found it disappointing. I remember one of the old Top Gear DVDs (I think it's revved up) where Richard Hammond said that to be a presenter on Top Gear, the car must be the star of the show, not yourself. Ever wondered why the last few seasons of TG with the trio felt off? They forgot who's the star of the show. Another reason TGT disappointed is because they didn't innovate. They were just happy leaning back on their old tropes and cliches instead of coming up with fresh ideas to revolutionize car shows like they did during TG's best years. Both the BBC and Amazon need to think of ways to make their respective car shows more innovative, focused and exciting. The BBC need to let Matt, Chris and Rory develop their own chemistry instead of copying their predecessors, while Amazon needs to make their show more like its namesake - a Grand Tour - instead of it just being 'TG like it used to be'.

Top Gear went from being a show that put screwing around slightly above the cars, to a show that's only cars. Top Gear turned into something like MotorTrend reviews and Fifth Gear as well. It's not special like it was.

You're right: I did watch TG for Jeremy, James, and Richard. Their chemistry was epic. The cars were amazing too - watching Stig wrestle them around the track, and Jeremy's and Richard's reviews. Also, how does liking and enjoying TGT make me a Prius driver? (I drive a '13 Mitsubishi Evo with a five-speed manual).

Basically, if you watch a car show only for its host(s) and their comedy, then you have little to no interest in cars and you own a Prius, which is a car for a non-car guy.

This episode was originally aired worldwide in July, so yeah, they did it, and they will continue to do it. Get back in your Prius and get outta here, TGT fanboy.
