When we first hit the canyons in Matt's Deman 4.5L 718 Spyder, we knew it would be quick, but it was also a cold, damp winter morning and the engine had not been fully broken in. Now, a few months and a few thousand miles later, the monstrous four-and-a-half is broken in properly, with two oil changes and Blackstone Lab reports showing good health, and we can let it rip. Matt and Zack hit the mountain on a crisp, dry morning to see what the ultimate analog sports car can really do.

One small correction: I mistakenly called the limited slip differential a Quaife unit in the video, when in reality DeMan manufactures their own LSD kit for this car, which is what I had. Frankly I have no idea where Quaife came from. Sorry! - MF

I actually ended up buying the V8 model...I literally ran into an issue the other day where my shop vac couldn't fit in-between the seat and door sill, so this thing seemed perfect and it was on sale so 🤷 good advertising Matt

Just bought a brand new green GTS 4.0! Upgrading the brakes, suspension, exhaust, and shifter ASAP. I'm glad I watched your video! Before, I had a GT4RS and I just felt something was missing without the manual. Then I realized, why don't I just build the perfect car like you have! So this was great inspiration for me. Thanks!

Where do you live - I didn’t think there had been any GT4RS customer deliveries yet - and you’ve owned one and sold it already, and got a GTS 4.0 order in, which I thought the order book was now full-up for until the end of production next year ??

Matts running stock brakes and suspension at over 500hp - you don’t need to upgrade them on a 400hp GTS, just get a free flow exhaust and if you can afford it change the gearing…

@@neilturner6749 maybe I'm losing it (there is always room for that lol) but I am pretty sure there have been plenty of US GT4RS customer deliveries by this point since they started late '22. I got to see one of the first ones in the state of Kansas late last year and met a few folks who were supposed to have theirs by end of year in Texas. Haven't been able to see said people since but I am quite confident they have their cars.

For the price it better be. People do k24 swaps on older of these and have very similar performance using 1000$ engine (rest of stuff for swap is not that cheap unfortunatelly).

This was so wholesome to watch. Seeing you guys rip this wonderful car around and knowing you don't have to bring it back. The modifications seem excellent, indeed it looks right at home on those roads. I noticed you had Zack toggle all the center console buttons when he got in the driver's seat. It's a bit of a "first world problems" thing, but if you want to have those settings persist on startup, check out T-Design 9's memory module. I bought one for my 981 and took it with me when I got my 718; never have to think about those buttons again.

Turns out the Cayman/Spyder 4.0 Deman-modified engine makes a big chunk more torque down low than the 4.0 GT3 Deman-modified engine (as explained by Matt and Tom Segura in their Deman-modified 992 GT3 video). Nice to see the Cayman/Boxster have more power than 911 for a change.

To me, this is the direction that any Spyder variant should go. The RS is cool, but I’d much prefer a “touring” variant, which I think is the direction Matt’s taken this car (and then some). Very very cool.

It's like a super gran turismo kind of build - in the original sense of the term where you could cross the European continent and many countries at a very rapid pace while still being very comfortable. Granted, the 718/982 is too small to carry serious luggage, but in every other way Matt's car fits the bill.

Friend of mine has a 981 GT4 Deman with the 4.25l for the track. Coming from the 3.8l which was already a good engine to a 4.25l Deman - holy smokes what a transformation. Combined with the shorter shifts, a crazy custom build exhaust - brutal. And the coolest part - it's from what I know the only 981 Deman in Canada.....(maybe someone knows another owner?!) Great video as usual!

Good to see this beast out stretching its legs. It’s properly fast and the rev matching sounds fantastic. I’m still undecided if I like the sound or not. My ear is more inclined to love the sound of the stock GT or ones with aftermarket exhausts. This one sounds almost like a domestic muscle car and a high revving European car had a kid. I remember when you made the commitment to this build, and it reminded of one of those Jake Raby builds where he takes a 996 3.6 and it becomes a 4.0. Torque everywhere. Same exclusivity. Deman and FSI can only do so many of these per year. Even in that dopey color. Very well done.

The boxster is severely underrated. I personally prefer it over the 911. To me it being a two seater and mid engined, makes it more sporty than the 911.

I’m so happy that a guy that reviews cars for a living shares the same opinion on the perfect sports car. A high powered NA boxster or cayman with shorter gearing. Also I can really feel when a car has more chassis than power. Only thing that I don’t agree with is the torquey flat powerband. I think it’s more fun when it’s peaky and comes alive when you rev it out.
