Yup...i was proud as hell of my camper set. I got Jim and Josh that xmas. I think in '75 i got Dr Steel, and the swamp boat set. Hours and hours of adventures in my backyard.
Me too, it was an amazing gift, it played with it for hours! Remember the button on his back and you pressed it and he would chop that board in half? So awesome!
Cool fact about this commercial: Brian Cole of The Association performed the jingle and did the voiceover at the end. Sadly, he died only a few months after this commercial was aired…
My brother had Big Jim and the sports camper. I had Big Josh with his talking backpack. My neighbor had a GI Joe and his sister had Barbie with her pink sports car. We would play for hours.
Big Jim was the Uncle Rico of the 70's, Big Jim could throw a football a half a mile, and coach did put him in at Right Guard and he smelt good doing it.
Acvtion. Figure. *please* And with a Sports Camper is was VERY masculine. Not at all like a doll. And not at all based on the same plastic parts layou as Malibu Barbie's Summer Camper. That was PINK, you see, obvs different.
I had this, but I don't remember the doll or the boat. I also don't remember whatever happened to this toy either. It's like one day I wondered, hey where did my Big Jim camper go?
