You have two versions of this video and I watch both of them all the time. People in this category are not just organists. They are performing artists using works of art that are actual feats of mechanical engineering. Not only do they know what notes to press but at the proper time using couplers to increase the magnificence of it all. Top it off with the learned ability to pick stops that add color, depth, and texture to the overall sound. Peter Van Der Velde is in a masterclass of organists.
Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal in Antwerp, Belgium has two magnificent organs and a regular concert schedule. Well worth a visit. Metzler organ III/P 45 - 1993 Schyven organ IV/P 90 - 1891
The original video of this transcription was impressive enough on its own merits. This re-record, however, is on the next plane higher in both audio and visual. A revelation to me is how spacious and airy the Schyven organ is behind the facade with all ranks given ample space to sound their best and the tuner room to move his elbows!
I have never come accross your videos before and glad I did. What a wonderful organ not to mention the organist of course! Beautiful music just lovely.
It is always a pleasure to hear Peter Van De Velde's performance after many years. This interpretation is truly superb! The organ is magnificent. Thanks to Aeolusianer.
Merci infiniment, Peter, Charles-Marie, Johann Sebastian .
I still have the old original video in my Favourites playlist! I went away and learnt this after watching the original. It's nice having cleaner audio (without chatter in the background) and upgraded video. The only thing this new video lacks is the camera shaking from the organ's power (go to 5:56 in the original)! I love this organ greatly. I was feeling down today but this new video brought me some happiness.
I am happy too hear that it brought some light to your day ! Sorry, well, I did not think it would be necessary to switch on the image stabilizer and only later I saw that the camera shakes a bit because of the organ's low frequencies!
I love the original as well! The big 32' reed still sounds the same. Although in this new one, its right on time for that last chord. In the original, its about a half second late, which in all honesty, isn't bad. Makes for a more intense moment when it actually speaks! LOL

@@sathya999 Indeed... Everyone does their own thing. Cameron Carpenter has his own goals and opinions, some people like these, some not. The organist in this video is a (very good) classical organist. Cameron Carpenter uses the organ more like an "art palette" instead of playing music as it's always meant to be.
For some reason I always thought the pedal part of this piece is terrible, it should be sustained notes. This constant breaking just sounds inane. Which is just so bizarre because _everything else_ is first-rate.
