Matthew Lillard Admits It’s a ‘Bummer’ to Not Voice Shaggy in New Scoob! Movie (Exclusive) 

This dude IS shaggy. They did him wrong for not casting this legend.

I feel bad for Matthew cause he sounded so sad that he wasn’t able to do Shaggy in Scoob. I hope we get to hear him again as Shaggy in a new show or movie soon

Warner Bros. didn't even bother telling him, Gey DeLisle-Griffin (Daphne), and Kate Miccuci (Velma) that they wouldn't even be doing the film. The company isn't honoring some of Casey Kasem's, the original voice of Shaggy, last wishes when he retired from the role. He specifically asked that Lillard assume it for him. DeLisle-Griffin took over the role of Daphne after her predecessor and dear-friend, Mary Kay Bergman, tragically committed suicide. She was hesitant about playing the part since she knew how much it meant to Bergman and because of how much she loved her as a person, but she realized that Bergman would've wanted her to play Daphne after her.

The fact that he's not voicing Shaggy is the reason I won't see the movie

Lillard rocks. He IS Shaggy. When he replaced Casey I was .......a little doubtful....but as a lifelong fan.....I will say to anyone who listens....he walked up to the plate and has done nothing but hit homers. That voice still has a little Casey.....very recognizable but so much better for now. Lillard is Shaggy. I probably don't know much....I only have every single Scooby Doo cartoon and movie ever made and Scooby and I are the same age ;) Lillard got screwed on Scoob! But....it's such a horrible piece of rot....maybe it's better he wasn't involved

In the same way I hear Mark Hamill’s Joker in my head when I think of the Joker, when I think of Shaggy I now always hear Matthew Lilliard. He has done such a great job for so long he has actually replaced the Shaggy of my childhood, the legend, Casey Kasem.

This was actually such a cool interview. The interviewer kind of went off script many times and they seemed to have a genuine conversation in the interview. I didn't expect to watch the whole thing but I did - it was super fun!

Watched Scoob last night and couldn't get over how Shaggy sounded. Not sure why they didn't change their minds when watching the voice with the footage. Its distracting and just bad. Also I feel like more people would be inclined to watch it if they knew Matt was attached to it.

Seriously you don’t even know how much it broke my heart when Scooby Doo 3 didn’t come out. I was so excited as a young child for it and to know it just got scrapped really made my heart fall. I was always waiting for that one trailer to appear that would say: Scooby Doo 3

I feel bad for Mathew cuz he didn’t even get told about it. But the positive thing about it is that there wasn’t any confirmation that he will never come back. That casting role was just for the movie so if there’s another dvd movie and/or a new show, they might get Mathew

People seriously don't understand what a phenomenal actor Matthew Lillard is. The dude went from being psychotic in Scream, in agonizing pain in 13 Ghosts, to a kid friendly cartoon character in both live action and animation! Now that's range!

Here’s what I don’t get: if Warner Bros. wanted celebrities a part of the Scooby Doo movie, why didn’t they just make the movie like Scooby Doo and Guess Who? That show has tons of celebrities guest starring in episodes. It would have made better movie if the plot had gone in that direction.

Matthew Lillard in my opinion is the single most underrated movie star of the 90's and 2000's. Have you seen him in that scene in The Curve where they sit in the pub and the lights fade and he roles on with his psychopathic monologue? To me it was one of THE most memorable acting moments (aside from that chick playing to play a role in an audition in Mulholland Drive) - he would have deserved an Academy Award only for those 20 seconds! This guy is constantly brilliant in every single role he played!

They need a "SCOOB!" special edition with Lillard redubbing Shaggy's lines, and Grey Griffin redubbing Daphne's lines.

Cool to see Matthew Lillard return to voice Shaggy in Straight Out of Nowhere: Scooby Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog that was just announced. I admittedly only watched him as Shaggy in the live-action Scooby Doo films, but he's definitely got the voice and mannerisms down perfectly. I'm sure he's really happy to return to the role once again.

I'd still be fully interested in a third Scooby Doo movie with the original cast. The director had some pretty good ideas for it before the studio scrapped it. Come on, give us a Scooby reunion movie!

Hopefully for the sake of bringing him back the shared universe plan still goes ahead like planned and the next time we see The gang show up, hopefully Mathew can reprise his role as Shaggy, no offence to Will Forte but he just doesn't fit the bill, great actor but not for this role.
