Shubha Balasubramanya you're welcome. I don't do anything with the watercolor paper. I use 300 lb. paper so it stays flat.

Poonam Chaurasia you’re welcome, thanks for watching! I use 300 lb watercolor paper to paint on. I cover it with gesso first to seal the paper.

Very helpful David....I simply never entertained the idea of painting acrylics on paper, let alone matting and framing so beautifully, as you've done here. What kind of paper do you use to paint on? I can see you've apparently gessoed the paper from it's stiff appearance.

by weighted he means 'heavier' on the bottom... meaning wider on the bottom

Hi I enjoyed your video. Can u link where to get the matting and frame? Esp to frame watercolor post card paper size. Do u recommend a painters tape for masking off lines? Please also link the tape u recommend for hinging. Is there a tape or glue to use to adhere a small water color art piece to a matting without using the hinging method? I'm a beginner and need to know where/how to start with water color tools & tips. Thanku Kindly Gem

Gem, the mattes are from matboardandmore.com, they have the framers tape too I think. I usually get frames from jerrysartarama.com. Always use white artists tape, never colored painters tape. You can get artists tape from Jerry’s too. Never glue a painting when framing, use the hinging method.

Laney, the paintings in this video do have varnish on them. It’s a little different now, I typically don’t varnish, mat or frame anything. Thanks for watching!

Hi. Is it acceptable to put a cardboard mat on an oil painting done on canvas paper? Would you not put glass over it, it being an oil painting?

Thank you ! I wanted to ask you if you have any experience selling art prints? I was recently at an art showcase and fellow artists were selling their art prints at very reasonable price. I thought its a good option to get your work available to a bigger crowd who don't want to spend much. What are your thoughts? Also if you do prints what is the process ? Thank you! Really appreciate your videos ..

ArtInMyHeartStudio I don't sell art prints and currently don't intend to do so. Selling prints is a personal decision and is based on many factors, including the cost of your originals versus the cost for the prints. Usually an artist that sells prints has very high prices on the originals and the prints are used as a more affordable option. Since I don't use prints I am not a good resource for the process of creating them.

When you sell a painting on paper, for example a 8 x 10 inch, do you typically make the painting bigger so that the buyer can tape it to the frame, so that there is a bit of excess.. So for example a 8 x 10 painting will actually be 8.25 inches by 10. 25 inches. When you scan it for display and sale on a website, would you crop it to 8 x 10? Has anyone ever complained about getting an image is slightly different than what is scanned? And having to crop it?

An 8x10 is just that, 8x10. The mat covers 1/4” all the way around. This is standard of the industry practice and nobody complains.

You’re welcome. I wrap the painting with palette wrap, then wrap it with bubble wrap and put it in the box.

bonnie garson I’m not sure what you’re asking, but I use a simple d ring hanger on each side with wire strung between the two. Same system I use for canvases.

Acrylic paintings don’t require glass, but as you can see I am matting the paintings. Matted paintings need glass.
