i can't believe you've done this actually I’d say he sounds like a contemporary artist or an aesthetic philosopher rather than a novel. The level of introspection is far more intense when he speaks compared to anything I’ve read

"i kinda used to dream about being sedated". it's really crazy hearing someone put in words things that you go trough and never found a way to articulate. i letted out a huge sigh, if anyone would do this it would be matty for sure. it gives me some calm in a way, i feel in company. im so sorry tough for everything he's gonne trough even when at some level i knew, but glad he's finally going out of it.

Anything that calms you down, relaxes you is basically extremely addicting. That’s why so many people get addicted to Xanax. I have horrible panic attacks and once a friend gave me Xanax to help me calm down, it worked so well. Immediately. From that point on, anytime I was stressed, depressed etc. I was craving that feeling again. Which Xanax would give me. Yes there are other ways to “cope” and calm down but nothing will give you the same effect as a drug. That’s just how it is & that’s why they are so addictive. Benzodiazepines & Opioids are so dangerous.

Same. I take Lexapro for my anxiety and my friend who actually is prescribed Xanax gave me one after I had 3 panic attacks in one period at school. And it was the best feeling. And next thing I knew, it was 2 a day. 3 a day. I became addicted within 2 weeks. 28 days to start a habit, 28 days to break a habit. I've been clean for over 3 years now. But I agree with you. Nothing has the same effect as drugs.

I literally just found this interview sort-of randomly, and I have to say that it's so refreshing to hear these subjects being approached like this. Healy deserves a lot of kudos for demanding from himself a level of self-awareness and reflection that has often been all too rare in the past from others in his position (which may have been a consequence of music industry PR insisting on a specific 'drugs [and opiates in particular] are bad, rehab showed me the light' narrative). Here he seems to be accepting something to the effect of "this one was on me, it stemmed from before I was in the band and I both enjoyed it and thought I could manage it right up until it became obvious I couldn't". Both he and the interviewer also make a point of the fact that he was fortunate enough not only to be able to take 7 weeks in Barbados to begin getting clean (which is beyond the reach of the vast majority of people who follow that path), but also that the band rallied behind him and took the financial hit to do so. Rather than make a big deal of the latter point, his sense of gratitude comes across as implicit - and in the moment maybe that makes it more powerful.

I dont think him being or talking about being addicted to drugs is a risk to or for his fans... He dont talk like it was so great or trying to get people to do them. He talks about how hard that time in his life was, how it made him a lier and how he did not like himself anymore being an addict. He supports people getting clean, he lets us know he can understand. He talkes about people should not allow thierselves to become addicted and theres a difference in trying a drug, and being addicted. How being addicted is not a fun life, its a very hard hard time in someones life. I think hes an artist, and he tries to understand life from his exsperience, and the exsperience of everyone else. I think him being able to truely understand all these differents walks of life, is what makes him such a great artist. Also his fans know he can truely relate to all of us in many different ways, he understands. Ive never heard him say anything about it being a great or fun time in his life. I hear him talk about his exsperience, what it done to him and how it made him become dull, or a lier. Its not like hes promoting any of it. Its just something he went through, which does relate to millions of people. I think he has a voice in an epidemic, and he uses that voice for many great reason. I like it that he knows what that does and he tells his truth about it all. Hes relatable, he knows. This is just one chapter of his book of life. One thing in a stream of many many things he will go through in life. Its not a bad thing... Its just some thing, you know. He will use his voice and his exsperiences. I feel like its made him a better artist, and it is just another, one more way, he relates to alot of other people. I dont feel like its a bad risk at all. Yes he was an addict.... And look at all the great things hes been able to do in his life. Being an addict does not define him. Its all the good things about someone that defines who they are. People should not get all caught up in one part, of someones many parts of life. Hes way more than just an addict. I like him even more for having gone through that, and getting the help he needed to get out of it. To me hes just someone who understands that part of someone elses life.... More relatable.
