MAU MAU AND LIMURU 3: SPIRITUALITY, COURAGE AND RESPONSIBILITY - DR. NYAMU NJOKA 

Dr. Nyamu Njoka is a Kikuyu elder and author, who has also served as the Secretary of Mt. Kenya Foundation. His book, titled, Njũũria, ngwĩre: kĩhumo, mĩtugo na mĩikarĩre ya Agĩkũyũ (Ask and I will Tell You: Origin and Culture of the Agikuyu), is a tome on Kikuyu culture and mythology. He gave this speech today at the Limuru III Conference at Kabuku, Limuru. We regret that it was not possible to translate it within such a short time, but it is an important speech being, as it is, a commentary on both Mau Mau and contemporary politics. Dr. Njoka extolls the gallantry of the fighters and establishes their mission with the traditional spirituality of the Gikuyu people. He also explains the importance of Limuru, which is not far from Githunguri where the independence movement had established a teachers college, as the meeting place of the community. Today's meeting was the third such meeting in a period of 60 years years. The gathering is a cultural event with notable political undertones, even overtones, but our interest is the linkage with Mau Mau and that is what we are focused on, hence our move to curate this speech here. #maumau #kenya #limuru #africanhistory
