Based on a true story, MAUDIE charts the unlikely romance between Maud Lewis, a folk artist who blossoms in later life, and the curmudgeonly recluse, Everett.
One of the best movies I've ever seen in my entire life. If this doesn't pull at your heart you must not have one. If this woman doesn't get an Oscar for this there is no justice in the acting world.
Saw the movie yesterday. Wonderful film. Both Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawk gave fabulous performances. Despite her treatment by her family she innately knew she had worth and fought for it the best she could despite the social norms of the time.
I too . I read her biography and was totaly in pain. Cruel desteny and brother. If she born today she coud have everything in her life with her talent. 😢😢
Of course. I sensed that she looks like someone I know but your comment suddenly remembered him to me. I agree she's so talented as Eddie Redmayne. Even their faces
There is some artists who have this talent to move a whole audience. Each movie in which I could see her play a role she gave me this emotion. She attracts compassion and makes us question as human being. That's what's called an actress!
Beautiful story. Truly inspiring ! Thank you for making a movie which speaks to the triumph of the human spirit. It portrays true character, simplicity of pursuing one's true path one little step at a time. Acting is so authentic and moving. The images, dialogues and heart of this story moved me to a new place inside my own journey. Thank you for choosing the path less traveled!
This is a great movie! I am not one to cry in movies but I sure did with this one. It managed to pull powerful expression of long and quiet suffering, tolerance, acceptance, grace and forgiveness. I was completely locked into it from beginning to end. I really don't know how actors can transform into into such difficult characters but it is quite an art form when it is done this well.
I just cant believe that barely now this trailer is on trending when sally Hawkins performance in just breathtaking its brings tears to my eyes to watch how she made it big and her journey to the top this movie changed me and this film deserves so much more attention😭😭😭😭😭
I was sold on this movie in the first few seconds of the preview. Then I heard "Little Bird" by Lisa Hannigan in the soundtrack and that clinched it on the spot.
This is a good movie I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to see it. Ethan Hawke nailed that role I can speak from experience. I’m Generation X and I’m very glad no woman would ever have to put up with a marriage like that just to survive. There’s still 12 minutes left to go and we never get an explanation on what was done with all that money Maudie made from her art. Her husband had no vices no drinking, dope, or gambling. He never put a penny into fixing up their home. Alexa said $5 in the 1930’s was worth $77 today. I tell my niece repeatedly I don’t want her to have to depend on some shit head to take care of her. I want her to be able to be independent if she wants to be. Maudie would have been completely independent financially and socially in 2021 but unfortunately in depression 1930’s that wasn’t the case. Well done to everyone involved in this movie it is a good one.
You realize this takes place through the 1940s-1970s right? She was 64 when she died... lol. I get your point but you keep going on about 1930s. She died in 1970. Stop thinking so hard and watch it again, youll get your answer lol
Curtis, I just wanted an explanation on what happened to all the money she made selling her art all those years. Yes I’m well aware of the time frame of the film dude and both actors nailed their roles especially Ethan Hawke. I wished I lived back in those days when even a dude like that could grab a good woman.
@@moester75 I think you missed the point of the film or the point of their love. They were both rejects and outcasts of the world but found perfection, love, acceptance and forgiveness in each other. She wasn't an oppressed woman that had to rely upon a man to survive. The point is that they both shared a life of poverty, simplicity which the brother couldn't understand. The brother who sold her baby for adoption, who was ready to exploit her new fame for his own profit, he never understood that they trusted each other - she trusted her money with him. The key to her art was that she didn't need much, she didn't need wealth, she was content with enough tea to drink, and the occasional luxury of a screen door, which she knew her husband would provide her when she asked for it. She was able to see through the hard exterior to see a man worth loving and a man who loved her. To bring this all down to the level of 2023 Feminist politics is to degrade the message of the film.
I am a grown man and pretty damn tuff but I cried .My wife asked me if I gonna be ok.. WOW... I appreciate the small things in my life more now.. Sally Hawkins ..Oscar winning performance . Moonlight are you kidding . Sally Hawkins best actress hands down..
First of all I’ve to says “if you’re curious about what is loves? How’s it look like? How do you describe this is the perfect loves?” For me, I’d saw the perfect example twic. The first one is my parents when my father still alive he told me “Pumpkin, I need you to promise me. One day if I’m gone you’ve to loves your mother more than you loves me, ok?”. I didn’t understand why he asked me that until a day he passed away. My mother said “Your father, he’s never changed from the day one until the last day of his life. He’s always be the same nevertheless and only more.” The second times is from this movie. They didn’t much telling how’s sweet she was and how romantic he is. They didn’t talks that much but always there just be there for each other. Sally Hawking, she’s deserves to be recognizes as one of the greatest actress. Her beauty is truly from inside out
I saw it tonight and I truly believe Sally Hawkins is magic and a gift. Ethan is great in it too. It will make you cry but I feel that is a triumph that she overcame so much, Maude and shared her vision of the world through her beautiful paintings.
sally and ethan should have at least been nominated for this movie! sally's nomination for tsow was well deserved but she should have campaigned for this and won the oscar for maudie.
The movie was sad, a little disturbing, beautiful, and moving, sometimes all at once. Sally Hawkins performance was spectacular and moving throughout. At it's core, it's a story of two lonely people, who find comfort and solace with each other.
But what a story! What a work! Excellent interpretations, worthy of an Oscar! Simply brilliant! The simplicity of this movie is something great! 5 * P.S. 24 people should not have seen the same movie ...
Just saw this truly outstanding film 💃💐💖Such gorgeous scenes here; picture postcard shots. Wherever this is filmed, such a lovely place :) What is up with Ethan Hawke!?-- he is really hitting his stride. Turning in powerful mesmerizing performances! I just adore him :) and Sally Hawkins is like this grade A Excellence Actress that just embodies every character she plays. To see her take on Maudie, her walk and mannerisms was pure brilliance. This relationship starts out so damaged but willful! Purposeful! At times it was so difficult to see how Maudie is treated by everyone. And then comes the art aficionado who appreciates her and encourages her. This movie is just full of heart and struggle. I highly recommend it. Lovely soundtrack moves along with every scene perfectly. Best wishes ❤❤❤
Very endearing performances.. just wholesome . And a lot to learn from the characters stunningly portrayed just wonderful. Absolutely simple and profund. Give me a "brush" and watch what i paint. We all have " brush"in our personality
What I think is negative about the woman Maudie is that she took Everett's note down from the bulletin board. Which means that no other woman got the chance to apply for the job, if Everett didn't want to hire Maudie. If I were Everett and knew that Maudie had removed the note, without permission, I would kick her out of my house. Poor Everett who didn't know what she did 👎🏼
This movie Is soo beautiful she Was a very wonderfull woman, she Was so happy only with simple things her little house Her husband and Her paintings, she whatched only colors in a simple life
Saw the movie..excellent…Maudie’s house is in the museum/art gallery in Halifax….hard to believe she lived in such a small house with Everett…no central heating, running water…a remarkable person who seemed happy as long as she was painting & in spite of her severe disability 🇨🇦🙂
Both Sadie and Ethan Hawke should have won academy awards for their performance in Maudie. Both are terribly underrated actors. Outstanding movie and I am an action suspense and horror movie guy. I've seen it quite a few times. Just a beautiful movie. Just goes to show how shitty the academy awards have become.
Once in a great while a film comes along where every frame draws you in and you can't look away for fear of missing something...where the actors touch every emotion. Last night I saw one of those films... "MAUDIE"... starring Sally Hawkins, who is beyond brilliant and Ethan Hawke, who more than holds his own against her amazing performance.
Loved it!! Hits ya right in the feels! It's far and few in between where a movie can keep my attention, didn't want the story to end..No doubt Ill be watching this again some day and I never say that!..
