Played as him, against him, and supporting him earlier- and he’s nuts. Every single Mauga game I’ve played he’s leading the dmg numbers by a significant margin, and he’s stupid tanky and easy to play unless you have an ana to punish him. Doom even gets shredded through his block like he’s made of paper, and so do many other tanks.
Doom trying to tank him with block is the same as standing with block in front of assault bastion. That's actually just what mauga is, tanky permanent assault bastion with lifesteal and some mobility.
@@ZedTheUndead that was just a fire rate increase for shooting both guns at the same time(which was too strong against tanks). What I am saying now is to change the headshot multiplier from 2x to 1.5x
They need to massively nerf him by removing the healing passive and making that the only thing cardiac overdrive does. Otherwise he just heals squishies through everything and so you can't even isolate him
Mauga's damage is so braindead that I don't think there's a single tank in the game that can contest space with him, not even Sigma. In maps with good cover the only way to get past him will be with a better mauga, anti-healing or ultimates. Either that or you find a way to outplay and kill his backline.
idk this new buffed version but i kinda destroyed him with dva back in blizzcon early access. just dm the cardiac overdrive and shoot when he is out of it. the only problem i see now is that his ammo doesn't fckn end so dva's infinite ammo advantage no longer good against him.
he is so stupidly broken, i dont really get how a millionaire company like blizzard does things like that, didn't they know that he was going to be that op just by checking the abilities?
The same distance where reaper can do damage, so can malga do his 270+ dps on him. Yeah, reaper doesn't do hot unless he catches mauga reloading, distracted or low.
What sucks is that this is just a beefy version of bastion but without the cd of turret form. Give him more ramp up time on his guns before he shoots and make the multiplier 1.5x. I would also like to see them adjust burn damage in accordance with the range that it was hit at. Make it follow fall off damage so that squishies won't be pressured as much from 50+meters away. Also let characters actually use movement abilities inside of his ult. They shouldn't be able to escape anyways but shutting down doom's whole kit while inside mau's ult is pretty bad.
I'm not touching this character until the nerfs come. I hate getting into the groove of a fresh character just to have to adapt to roller-coaster balancing for like 6 months.
Looks like Hog needs another massive buff again. Armor and 50% percent dmg reduction from breather plus faster replenishing rate. Also allow hog to hook him out if his charge.
Before I said he shouldn't have gotten the armor from an aesthetic point of view, what with being a walking wall of meat like Roadhog, but now that he has it on top of the increased healing I don't think he should have it period. I think the damage changes are fine (so far) but having to get through armor that is constantly being replenished by both his own insane self healing and the healing of his supports is too much, so either reduce his self healing or remove the armor entirely and replace it with health.
The healing is only on cardiac, he only generates overhealth with his passive normally. But yeah, a 70% lifesteal cooldown plus armor plus insane damage at even medium range are all just too insane. He was balanced before since he only did the crazy amounts of damage at near point blank since his accuracy was so low, but now he can do it at both short and slightly less than medium range. He's definitely way overtuned. I had a little success with the buffed Ramattra against him earlier today, since the staff is pretty good at dinking his head from a longer range and you have a pretty small hitbox plus a barrier. Though it was QP and might have just been a skill diff.
@patricklodge1576 the thing is the devs themselves said they don't want new heroes to feel weak after how poorly received Liveweaker was. I personally would rather have new heroes get buff overtimes, but Blizzard wants that sweet Battle Pass money
I feel that it’s better to release a character broken in order to leave an impression and get people to try them out or else people will forever overlook the character since even some of my friends still think wifeleaver is weak since he was weak on release
During the demo it was a tough fight against Mauga using Roadhog, but the match was fairly close and in some circumstances or maps in the favor of one or the other. This time it's just one sided, especially if you aren't 100% coordinated with supports. I feel the armor change was too much. You might have to ignore Mauga as you suggested otherwise there is no point as he can fight and heal while you need to choose one or the other. Junker Queen fairs much better but it's still difficult and Mauga is gaining more mitigation, healing and overall damage than JQ in a match but I can at least shout to escape, survive and axe/knife weak targets on the side or back line and deny healing with the ultimate, but it isn't easy. Day 1 opinions though but that is how I feel about the matter.
He actually a tank killer more or less like bastion, just straight up shoot at their tank and no one else and after the tank die the other will crumble....
Mauga is honestly in the same boat as hog in the sense that if your team doesn't bring Ana he's going to run through your entire team. Bro wins literally every tank 1v1 and he shreds through health (pocketed or not) like it's paper wouldn't be surprised if he catches the nerf hammer before he's playable in ranked
Nerfing ammo to 200 or 250 would be the most sensible thing. That way there is an end to the endless bullet rain and rewards better ammo management by alternating fire more. And if he has to reload more he is vulnerable more often.
@@GalenMarekOfficial hog had enough counters to his play style as is, do I need to list everything that countered his hook alone? Then his top five counters? If so then I'm gonna be disappointed, there was never a time where hog had a truly great time. Even in his reworked self heal there was still a lot of cc that could nock him out of it. Now muaga can absolutely just burn straight through.
I hate playing against Mauga, but I gotta say I feel like it's making me a better support. I constantly feel like I'm in danger and that my decisions matter more, and that kind of pressure was not there before. We'll see if I'm singing a different tune when everyone learns how to use him. Totally possible lmao.
@@apocalypseap I play ana, but I want to be able to play other heroes as well. I'm gonna be useless if Ana is auto locked in my games. I'm trying to get out of counterswapping as my default to challenge difficult heroes.
Good thing they released it to quick play first. Just like rework Hog, Mauga will definitely get tuned down instead of a buff. Mauga is just Orisa 1.0 but with self heal.
I mean, the dev blog specifically mentioned Mauga as a counter. We just have to wait until they inevitably tune him back. And they will, because I played 3 tank matches against him last night and the only way to stop him consistently was bash, mei, Dva, Ana and bap or rein, sniper, hitscan, illari and bap.
The only maps that I have found that works in hogs favor against a Mauga Are maps with ledges off the map, because Mauga has such a big hit box and is slow when firing both guns he can't react fast enough before he's falling off the map. Any other map, yeah hog kind of gets rolled hard.
Tanks good against Mauga are: Zar,dva,JQ, and orisa(orisa is very off and on tho) Tanks that are ok against Mauga: doom,sig ram,and rein( with the shield tanks u have to play corners and high ground pretty much 100% of the time And ball,hog,and Winston are horrible into Mauga ball is a better but only go in if u have you adaptive shields
I think if they lowered his damage by like 10 - 20% and got rid of the armor, he'd be a much more balanced character. His self-sustain is enough to hold him in a longer engagement.
Remove his armor, bring cardiac overdrive back to 60% lifesteal, and revert the accuracy buff he got this season. Then I think he'll still be good but not as overpowered.
Mauga needs a hot fix patch to tone him down. It is gonna get REALLY boring playing into mauga mirrors or getting a tank that didn't P2W resulting in an insta L.
I’m sure it’s a marketing ploy, let everyone get reamed for a few weeks and force the tank players to P2W if they don’t want have a miserable time for the first weeks of a season.
In the experience I have been having, Zarya, Winston, Ramatra, Sigma, JQ Dva do well. Sigma, especially if he sheild dances. Mauga is strong, yeah for sure. But you cant be brain dead. Cordinated assualt the the answer for everything in this game after all. However, I do have a list of potential nerfs in mind they could try to mess with and hypothesis.
The only tank I’ve really seen do fairly well and somewhat match my mauga is JQ and it sorta makes sense since all them pellets are making contact with his huge body
They gave Mauga a handful of buffs since his test weekend. It’s clear Blizzard wants him super strong for his debut season. I wonder if they’ll tone him down after season 8.
Mauga is literally heavy from Tf2, mows down unsuspecting opponents and dominates 90% of casuals Edit: Hog does brawl well with Mauga so long as you can cancel his LOS with a small piece of cover like the payload or something. Other than that mauga ruins hog
It's a good time to learn Sigma. I'm a grandmaster Hog and have been playing him since 2016 but Mauga is just absurd on him. Granted, Hog was near unkillable because of the patch before this. He could go 20-0 and shrug it off. But now that I think about it removing his sniping ability is probably a smack to the face now more than anything. Mauga deletes him so quickly
It’s unfortunate but Mauga melts Hog .. you’re right it’s gonna be based on the healers. Yesterday I was on Hog.. I hooked this Mauga into my trap and he just started firing , ate through my whole heal, and murdered me lol
As far as i've seen, best and probably only way a hog wins against mauga is by starting the duel with a surprise attack using the one shot hook, not a guarantee, but only way to win is to kill him before you get burn, if you get burned well GG
Would Mauga be considered a counter to Hog? If he can ignore hook due to the dash ability & also melt Hog with his weapons, it just seems like unless Hog plays smart & conservatively, he will get destroyed.
I guess they need to fix the mauga's E cooldown because everytime his buff expire he only has 10 seconds cooldown instead of 15 seconds cooldownn. It should be the same as junkerqueen's shout ability where its a fixed cooldown.
Maybe they could balance Mauga by forcing him to reload after dashing? The damage output is one thing, that he keeps it up as long as a Zarya or Orisa is obscene.
While I do think he is overtuned ive found easiest way to deal with him on hog (with varying success on other tanks) is to bait out his overcharge cause without it he is VERY reliant on healers

What I don't like is that he hard-counters hog without any effort or skill. It doesn't matter if you're the best hog player that ever lived, any Mauga can just make you useless by focusing you down. Doesn't even need an ana or zen to help him out lmao. That seems to be the dev's balance philosophy now.
I think that he Hard-counters hog, winston, orisa, ram, sigma, idk about junker, doom... I think that the only one that can fight back is zarya, and i'm not so sure
The funniest shet happened to me is when i solo ulted a dva and she just did self destruct inside of my ult and i was the only one entrapped trying to run out of my own ultimate as mauga 😂
Just when I was enjoying reworked hog, Mauga has to come and ruin my fun 😂 in all seriousness I’ll probably just play Mauga until the inevitable nerf. I like playing a character as much as possible while they’re kinda broken and Mauga is a pretty fun tank so I gotta play him while he’s hot
i think tanks with shields are the only way for a TANK to do anything about him to negate the self heal, otherwise you need ana, zen, bastion......something like that IMO
@@kujikawathemeekmage3640 ur kidding right 😂. He could get his ult every fight or even twice a fight. He can out shoot everyone with how much ammo he has, he can snipe snipers with his chain gun and still do lots of damage. Trust me, I know because i can't be stopped with him when I play him
You see the only hero that can destroy Sym ult is Hog wholehog without any boost. This tank can eat all that wholehog and kill Hog in the process. Ridiculous pay to win
Man, it’s sad to see that my favorite tank stands no chance against Maui….at least my second favorite sigma does, and I got Maui myself so mirror match up is always possible Also, yeah, it makes sense now why they said Maui would reduce Roadhog win rate
If you play around cover and wait out his cardiac overdrive you still have decent burst damage to threaten him, you need supports to be helping you though
@kujikawathemeekmage3640 Are you serious? This is a silver 4 opinion of I've ever seen one. Diva has to manage her matrix cool down while trying to eat as much damage and abilities as possible, dive the enemy backline/snipers, all while booping the other tank out of position. Mauga shoots...
