I am from Lahaina. This is our High School (Lahainaluna) Alma Mater. LAHAINALUNA H.S. is the oldest public high school west of the Mississippi, founded in 1831. Our campus is nestled 1500 feet up under Mt. Ball, overlooking Lahainatown. Lahainalunas first graduate, David Malu is buried atop Mt. Ball. Every year, prior graduating classes hike up Mt. Ball to light the "L" for the current graduating class. Lahainaluna had the first printing press in the islands and is still home to a Boarding Department, the only one for any public high school. We are beyond blessed that Lahainaluna High School survived the fire. It's literally the only piece of history left in Lahaina. 🙏🙏

Tell Oprah and "The Rock" that you don't need their money. It will come with strings attached! I used to work for Maui Land and Pine. All of that property on Lahainaluna used to be pineapple fields. When it became land for housing, they let the fuels overgrow. I have also been through 2 forest fires in Ca. Both got my house., but I made the critical mistake of securing an SBA Disaster loan after the first fire and it disqualified me to get a free house through a grant program. Now after the second fire, the house is gone but the loan still has to be paid every month. Why should the fire survivors have to get a loan to rebuild? It's taken 5 years from the 2018 fire that burned Paradise Ca to start building. Please don't let yourselves fall through the cracks. Be loud often! The squeaky wheel really does get the grease in this situation. Lahaina Strong!

How is it possible for green trees to still be standing and not burned out, it’s even stranger to see a few waterfront housed not touched…. The temperature required to melt glass in cars and engine blocks would be able to burn a nearby tree and every house. Fires don’t cherry pick and leave particular houses standing without a scratch. This fire is sketchy on. So many levels.
