I think it would be appropriate to let folks know that reverb effect is added to the sound.

You were playing the Xaphoon and gave a little history/demonstration/how you made them presentation. It was nice meeting you I hope you're doing well. I think we're about the same age "old".

absoletely! possibly the most fun and expressive instrument i have tried to this day. there's no build in sax-reverb, but it's loud enough to keep up with a western guitar.

I've been dying to get into the saxophone, but the instruments are so cost prohibitive and I have never played a wind instrument before (been a violinist for 20-some years) so I ordered one of these. Just received it today. After about an hour I am starting to get some decent tone and I am figuring out how to do the pocket sax equivalent of the vibrato. I have been finding it is a lot nicer in tone and the vibrato is easier to do when you puff out your cheeks with air although I am sure that is just one technique out of many. Its fun and doing a scale is pretty easy just making sure the blow holes are completely covered and you are freely adjusting your mouth grip (or embrochure as I am learning its called) around the reed to compensate for the lower or higher notes. Its basically a semi expensive toy, but I feel like it is good practice for whenever I do end up getting a real sax as producing tone is similar I imagine? Also a note of advice to new players: Play alongside others here in youtube while you have some headphones on. It will really help with your intonation and tone. There is a video of Brian playing alongside another fellow and basically showing an audience how to play the instrument, and that helped me a lot a few minutes ago.

I was thinking about getting something like a shawm to play medieval like tunes but they cost so much. This sounds very similar to a shawm and i definitely plan to buy one. Thanks for introducing me to it!

This _is_ the perfect instrument for me!!!! I CAN PLAY EPIC SAX GUY WHEREVER I WANT!! haha; the best thing about this is that it's full octave as well, and sounds fantastic! I've been playing Penny Whistles lately which sound great, but the major scale makes it hard to play most songs. Deff gonna buy this! :D

I bought one from Ebay for $20.00. But when I play it, it sounds like Yoko Ono getting ran over by a car. To add that reverb, I'd have to run it into my rig. Which when I get better at it, I shall. It's a great instrument.

I love the sound of a saxophone or brass instruments. I only play piano, guitar and accordion but would love to learn the saxophone. Considering you can pick on these up for like 20-100 quid I think I might have to get one they sound just as good as a full sized saxophone!

It seems to sound more like a sax and less like a clarinet the way you play it. Can you maybe tell me why? I play a Generation flute type thing sometimes. Is the fingering like that? You can get the next octave by blowing harder? It sure would be nice to add some sax to some of my songs.

You got a big pocket boy! If you want something that will really fit in your pocket try the 10 or 12 hole Ocarina. I just got my Xaphoon, I like it, but if you step the wrong way with this in your huge pocket you'll break the reed. Ocarinas are more like glass, and people typically carry things of that fragility level in their pockets anyway so it's actually reasonable as far as pocket instruments go. I ain't dissing on the pocket sax, I have a pocket socket and I like it but it won't fit in most pockets.

Wow. It comes right of my pocket with hell of a reverb!

My problem currently is that I can comfortably get the sound out every time, but covering the holes tightly is super hard, there is always some „fake air” coming out of one of them. Also, I tried this against a tuner and the problem is that the tuning varies a lot with how deep the mouthpiece is in my mouth and that changes with the note I play. Eg. I play a clean, in tune Eb and then I let open the hole to make it an F and it’s like 25 cents out of tune and I have to adjust the depth othe the mouthpiece by a few milimeters for it to be in tune, which means I have to constantly adjust it at each note I play. I’ve never played a wind instrument before, is this how it’s supposed to work or am I doing something wrong?

I have had one of these for years now and it kind of just sits about as a conversation piece.... I don't know if I've got a funky mouth piece or if I just haven't gotten the hang of the air control, but good lordy....you have to push a LOT of air through this thing to get it to make sound. Also, my itsy-bitsy lady fingers don't cover the holes very well, but that's a personal problem.

What is that one made of? Mine I bought when they first came out as the original bamboo. I see they have changed a lot. Was wondering if I should have went for the refined plastic model because seems inconsistent. Are they all individually tested and tuned? I assume the plastic ones are perfect. Maybe I just don't know how to play it :)

Hi,could You play same note C (or whole c ionian scale) but on few xaphoons ? Each xaphoons have different key and I'm curious how the color of the same notes changes on each xaphoons :)
