GM Maurice Ashley's Acceptance Speech at the 2016 US Chess Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Thanks to Chess Club & Scholastic Center of Saint Louis and Worldchesshof.org for making this video available.
Grandmaster Maurice Ashley is one of my favourite commentators - filled with passion and enthusiasm. I also love his concept of "weakness of the last move" which he introduced in one of his videos which i find is often winning many games even Super GM games especially in time pressure situations. Congrats!
Hi Grandmaster Maurice Ashley, This is great news! I played versus you at night when you visited Harvard Square during the mid-2000s. Larry C. was there along with the usual players. Well I just remembered being around a strong Expert to Master skill level and thinking I'll put up a fight but you casually destroyed me as you engaged in debate with Larry on the side. The strongest player I defeated up to that point in tournament was Mark E. but each time I played against IMs and GMs I felt like I just started playing Chess again. It was a great experience feeling that type of power from a visiting player who has done so much for Chess culturally, internationally, and professionally. Moreover, I appreciate your charm, class, and humility. As a person whose spoken with you and witnessed your role as a Chess ambassador visiting my scene, I want to congratulate you on entering the Chess Half of Fame! I was actually surprised seeing you get awarded that recognition now after all of this time. I look forward to seeing what you do next.
Mourice Ashley you are one of my favourite players of all time and also one of my all round favourite people. Thank you for your hard work and dedication you're a great inspiration to millions.
His 1997 computer program "Maurice Ashley Teaches Chess" is where I got my start in chess. He's been at promoting and developing the game for more than 20 years. Well deserved.
The fulfillment he must feel each day from helping children learn is intangible to me. Even if it's just 1 single child he saves. You deserve more than anyone can give you. I hope your legacy lives forever.

*I want to know how many of the top ranked chess players (past and present) attended this ceremony?* *I also want to know if any of the greatest park chess players were flown in to attend this event?*
