I'm 49 years old...as a child of the 70s....I would listen to EWF of course...but he spoke of Sly Stone...listen to 'If you want me to stay' by Sly Stone...I think that is where EWF got their idea to sing 'Yearnin' Learnin' from the 'That's The Way Of The World album...even as a young kid...I thought that they sounded similar. Both of those songs...I love very much.
Maurice combined all his influences in EWF. Together with Sly & The Family Stone they were the first band who crossed over, mixing different genres. In the early days EWF used to open up for all kind of artists. Santana, Weather Report, Uriah Heep, Bo Diddley and many more ... That's why they gained such a wide range of audiences later on.
Majority of our rappers can not read, or compose sheet music, let loan play an instrument, we must get these skills back before it is completely lost and forgotten, because if music shall happen to change, we will be lost unless the black community get educated like for one like Mr White and many other legends.
