No, I can, and I actually enjoy intelligent debate. However, 99% of people just resort to ad hominem attacks and can't be reasoned with. And I'll never understand people who hate a certain type of content, yet remain only to bash the creator(s). I'm not saying you're this type of person, but I'd just leave and never return if I was that upset.

I understand the sentiments here. I too am not happy with these turn of events. I want to keep it within logical reasoning though and see what the NRA is planning first. I understand most of us may have lived or heard of the history on how FOPA(Firearm Owners Protection Act) was great, till they snook in the Hughes Amendment and burned us all during that time for automatic firearms. For now, I say we all stand ready to see what is gonna happen and if the NRA has done what we all think, then steel yourselves and be ready to fight it. Lets all stay together guys and be ready if we need to come together and get the NRA "back on track" if the need comes. I already wrote to my senators and reps in my state (Texas btw) and I urge everyone to do the same now... www.usa.gov/elected-officials (If you want to send a message to our President himself too. This also includes the house and the senate) www.house.gov/representatives/find/ (finding who represents your state in the house)

I love the WW I or II rifles. I have the Mosin Nagant, K-98k, 303 British, 1913 Eddystone, Italian 7.35 Carcano, 7x57 Brazilian Mauser and 7.7 Jap rifles! I reload for all of them except the Carcano. My first deer was harvested with 7x57 German Mauser. Love shooting these old rifles! Thanks for sharing and the history of the Mausers!

I bought one just like it yesterday, Erfurt 1918, all matching down to the screws and very good cartouches. A sweet old rifle. My rifle has the same gap beneath the bolt release but doesn't have the finger grooves. You have the proper bayonet for it with the steel strip on top to protect the wood from the muzzle blast that would scorch the scales.

When the Imperial German Army adopted the Mauser 98 at the turn of the century, they specified a full length model for the infantryman in order to maximize the effectiveness of the new 7.92 mm spitzer round and a shorter carbine version for the cavalry, which was the Mauser 98a (there was also a slightly different carbine version for use by artillerymen, engineers etc called the Mauser 98b). Due to advances in ballistic knowledge and weapon technology Britain and America decided to invest in the 'short' rifle concept which was an intermediate length weapon equally capable of obtaining the best from the new modern ammunition. The result was the British Lee Enfield Mk III SMLE and the American Springfield. Germany however, did not follow this route, retaining the traditional full length rifle and the carbine variants. The carbines were certainly handier but firing a full power military cartridge in a short barrel produced a tremendous report, flash and recoil, making their accurate use very difficult. In the 20's and early 30's the Germans looked at their weapons and their performance and decided to go along with the 'short' rifle concept and the result was the WWII Mauser 98k (the k standing for 'kurtz' meaning short, not karbine). hence the different types. The 98a was a true carbine in the 19th century sense of the word while the 98k was a twentieth century short rifle.

From the very first time I saw a 98a, I wanted one. Took me damn near 20 years to stumble across one. Then, luckily, my friend the gunshop owner just happened to have the correct bolt for the thing. Not matching numbers, but correct and tested good. THAT is what matters to me, 'cause this is MY rifle. It just looks, and feels, right. I have several other Mausers, but none of them are this one. Strange how that works.

When I was 14 I bought a K98a from my local gun shop, along with some Norma, Federal, Remington ammo. When I shot it, the cases looked nothing like the factory rounds. Come to find out, it had been re-chambered to 8mm-06 by the guy that brought it home from Europe in 1919. I ended up getting a die set from RCBS for it for my hand loads. Now there was a lot more blast and recoil...

@Hickock45, that brand mark might be related to the specific army this riffle was bought for and used by. If I'm not mistaken (and I'm no expert on the matter): Some of the German States had their own army since they had their own "crown" under the German Imperial State. Going by the mark I would suspect it to be "Bayern" or in English Bavaria. Something to look intro anyways. :-)

I have had my K98a for probably 3-4 years now and have asked around and looked here and there and never really knew what mauser it was until this morning. Just searching random mauser stocks trying to figure it out because I need a Buttplate for it. Closest I had someone tell me was a re arsenal updated to K98k'ish config Gewher 98, but the buttplates never matches. Some people thought it was Argentine because of the similar butt plate style. Not the same as a Gewher or K98k. Love the rifle though. Found it in a friends basement withering away sitting on concrete. Actually in pretty good shape for that.

I've got a great all-matching numbers version of this rifle from 1916 Erfurt.... sadly someone who owned it long before me cut the forestock down a bit to "sporterize" it. It works great but you can barely hit anything at shorter distances than the sights are set, so less than 300 yards.

I've been watching your stuff for a long time and I really enjoy it. Your videos are always very informative and well done. I had an idea about a gun I picked up in a trade a while back. The Phoenix arms HP22 in .22LR .They are cheaply mass produced pocket pistols. they go on sale for 129$ new sometimes and retail for around 150. The frames and slide are cast zamak zinc and they come in "nickel" and "blued" finishes. They have two manual safeties on them and they feel like a solid gun. I was a little worried it would be a piece of trash but man did the one I got shoot like a dandy for what it was. 3 inch groups at around 15 yards with standard and High velocity ammo and I never had any jams in it in the short time I had it. I'd love to hear your opinion on them if you could get buds to send you one to do a video on. I wish I still had mine but I had to give it away for someone's first CCW .It seems like a really nice low maintenance gun for first timers or to carry when you can't be bothered to carry something bigger or fancier. Im going to pick up a .22 as well as a .25 if the local gun shops will ever get them back in stock.

Never a problem; quite the opposite. I'm always glad to shake the hand of a viewer / fellow shooter. Early on in vlogs and Radio Shows I used to remind people to make sure they say Hi if they spot me somewhere. That has not changed a bit, of course. Sometimes people will write me and tell me they saw me somewhere but didn't want to bother me. It would be rather arrogant of me to not have time to say Hi to a viewer, ever! You all are the reason I get to shoot for a living, even if I did upset some of you this week. :-) I just met a family at Walmart this morning who recognized my ugly face. Got to pick on their son (about middle school age) for wasting his time watching RU-vid videos. :-) He set me straight right away, saying he likes to watch, but he prefers actually shooting firearms himself. Good man! They caught me buying melons and pumpkins. Everybody else just thought I was about to create a decorative Halloween arrangement or something. These people knew better. :-)

The actual meaning of the BS intertwined is still unknown today. It can be found on the receiver rarely, but most of the time its burned into the stock like yours. Many experts agree that its a unit mark for the Bahnschutz or WWI era German Railway Police. The gap in the bolt release is common, and typical of Erfurt produced weapons. Erfurt was a top producer during WWI, second only to DWM in scope and total weapons produced. They made every small arm used by the German Army at the time as well as artillery. Due to this their fit and finish suffered. Great example!

Nice to know about that model of Carbine! I love my Russian Capture 98K! Since it was not numbers matching I refinished it to look like it came from the factory, however I did leave the battle scars! BTW if you really want some fun find some 197grn Turkish surplus ammo, it is HOT! I love recoil!

I believe the "stacking hook" was actually for bayonet fighting and used to catch your opponents blade and by twisting your rifle stock it would snap off the his blade - - -

I already have this Mauser rifle but there at Poland or generally at EU it is very heavy to get right munition for it :/ But I have to say that it is pretty good gun, I never had to repair it (I'm owning my K98a since 2007 / It was used by previous owner for hunting ) and it still shoots without any problems

This sounds sounds very similar to COD:WAW's gun sounds, especially the bolt action. They really did record the actual guns

The exactly cal. is 7.92x57 mm IS. Th IS stands for "Infantrie spitz". The 7.92x57 was already used in the Gewehr 1888, it is not a "Mauser" calibre.
