No real success with the IMR 7828, and it better be just so with the R25

My M-18 in 6.5 PRC won't feed reliably, making it totally unsuitable for hunting.

For a hunting rifle/load personally I'll take a little less accuracy for a more forgiving load... meaning I'll settle for a 1" to 1.25" group with good ES/SD numbers over a finicky half inch group every day of the week. That said I never quit looking for that magical 1 hole hunting load that I can be a couple few thousandths longer/shorter or a couple tenths of leeway in powder charge and I'm still hammering out to 350ish yards. That last group you shot if it'll hold together I'd say whatever you're hunting better hide good or it's gonna end up in a freezer... LOL

This rifle has shot dozens of 3 shot 1/2" groups. 1st with Hornady factory 143X & 147M loads, and later with the 143X with R25 powder. The shortages the last 2 years of all thing shooting, trying to find another load to go 1/2" it has recorded dozens of groups in that 1"--1 1/4" area but never another half incher. All that shooting eroded like .015" of the throat. This video I loaded the 143X & R25 .015" longer to accommodate. It likes a .050" jump. The average deer hunter, he will never shoot out this barrel, those of us that love to shoot just because, we already have a plan to replace the barrel when we left the gun shop. Thanks for Watching.

How many rounds through the gun to get .015 erosion ?? I know it depends on caliber and rounds being loaded. I was thinking about the 6.5 PRC but don't want to be replacing the barrel or gun to often.

This video just hit the 400 round mark. I read somewhere the PRC has a 1000 round barrel life. If your thinking a new deer rifle, don't worry about it. You will probably never shoot yours as hot, as often as this one has been.

In mine, jump varies by gun and caliber. Takes a lot of shooting to figure it out. Aw shucks, I have to go shoot again?

Eric Cortina, Team Lapua. Ex Team USA. Dont chase the lands. Bullet seating should be varied and tested every 0.003". Just saying. Loves your vids CD.

@@cavedweller1959 hi CD, have you heard of Eric Cortina, he’s an FClass USA ex team member, his development class on U Tube is really good, I only do two Patreon, yours and his. If you haven’t seen his channel I think you’ll be really interested in it. I’m in the UK 🇬🇧 but his vids are awesome. He uses a similar load method to the Scott satterly method of load development. I think I spelt that right. Keep doing what you do CD, hope you have plenty of Whaps coming your way.

@@cavedweller1959 Basically you can tune the Load to you your barrel using 0.003" of jump as the node is every 0.006". When you vary the bullet by 0.010" you can easily miss the sweet spot. Firstly you tune the powder charge for low SD's then do the bullet seating depth test. Eric Cortina explains it all. "Bolt Action reloading" is another Utube channel that has explored this method with very good and surprising results, just Utube search, "Dont chase the Lands". All the best CD.
