Great to see you again. I hope you have a great Christmas and a prosperous new year. Thanks for all your great videos this year. Stay well , God Bless. Ash 🏴
@@cavedweller1959 I left mine without bedding and it shoots great with handloads and Hornady factory ammo. Have too many rifle projects going all at once but it keeps me busy and off the streets. Looking forward to the bedding video.
My son has this same rifle and with 156 Berger’s it shoots really good. We also have the same dies . Straight out of the box we are consistently shooting 5/8 inch groups at 100 .
The dual ejectors are to ensure the cartridges eject at 90 degrees instead of upward, bouncing off the scope and falling back into the gun, so they say.
Just bought 1, Savage 110 tactical. Found same ammo, 147 Hornady. Zeus scope be here Tuesday. Haven’t got rings yet. Came with rail. Looking forward to setting this up.
Can't beat a Mauser,..never could,...in my humble opinion. $500.00 for a Mauser,.brings a tear to my eye! They're priced from about $900CAD to a low of $780CAD here. You made out like a bandit with that price.
Mauser without bedding on that first inch, will do sub moa right out of the box! They do a 5 round test, not sub moa norm of 3. Greta rifle, and I am after one now! Good video!
Sweet rifle. I wish my Ruger American 308 had a nice stiff stock like that. It shoots great for the deer but i would like it better. But don't we all? I am looking to the Boyds but then the weight gain is considerable. Merry Christmas.
I have 2 savage 10 that I put Mcgowan 6.5 PRC barrels on, and I saw a mossberg patriot in 6.5 prc for about $350. The Mossberg is not as accurate, but it does shoot the 143 precision hunter ammo at a little under 1 inch at 100 yards. The Mossberg doesn't like the 147gr bullets. The savages with Mcgowan barrels shoot both bullets at 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards. I normally handload with RE26 powder, but I ran out and decided to work up a load with a powder I had. I ran it through quickload software and found IMR 7828 would work best. I loaded 143 eldx bullets at 3000 fps. All three rifles shot under 1 inch.
Can't go wrong with a Mauser. They've always had controlled feed, great triggers and that dual safety. I've tried a German one from WW 1, and Swedish from WW2, and a 1950's Spanish kar98 pattern. They're all amazing. Couple new features on the new ones, but same reputation.
I've been thinking about getting on of these for the channel. I'm glad to see you got one. It'll be interesting to see how it does with some hand loads. Not too many people have Mauser hunting rifles; they're often overlooked. Mauser has made some very nice rifles over the years. Hopefully this "budget" model will stand toe to toe with all of the other great options out there.
I'm really interested in the Mauser M18 LR Chassis rifle in the Oryx chassis, but damned if you can find one in the continental US. I checked with Oryx to see if you could purchase the chassis with the Mauser inlet and apply it to a standard M18 or the Feldjagd, nope it's a Mauser proprietary item. Contacted Mauser, they say it's available in the US, but as stated can't find. Then they are only producing it in 308, 243, 6.5 CM and 6XC, no long actions? Come on Mauser.
I am looking at this in 6.5 creedmoor vs the Tikka Superlite, I have seen the Mauser for $150/200 less than the Tikka. You referenced the Tikka when doing the trigger pull. That being said, do you have a recommendation on what rifle I should pick up?
If your looking for a 300 yard deer rig, it's a wash. If your looking to play the long range game, the heavy for caliber, high BC bullets for the 6.5s are going to win out. Especially past the 500 yard mark.
Merry Christmas!! Love the video!! What are your plans with the 6.5 prc?? I've watch quite a few of your videos and I thought you were mostly in to hunting varmints!!
If I can get it to shoot really tight using the factory stock and keeping the weight down, some time I would really like to go on a mountain chuck shooting vacation. Should work good on deer and goats as well.
@@cavedweller1959 that would work great for deer!! Up here in cold old canada the 6.5 prc hasnt caught on yet!! But I hope it will soon!! Seems like a great round!! I bet it would be more than capable for moose also
Question for you. I just bought this in 30-06 and noticed when the bolt is in, the safety is sticky/harder to manipulate. But as soon as you take the bolt out its smooth as silk. Is yours the same way or am I just lucky?
Nice review, but the Mauser 18 magazine holds 5 in the standard calibers, and only 4 in the magnum calibers. Mauser clearly states that the 6.5 PRC is considered a magnum, and they say that the model 18 holds 4 of those, not 5. So, you have no legitimate complaint about it not holding 5. READ THE LITERATURE.
