Love it when people who can afford the money to buy an break a decent RC car and give it bad reviews by taking it to a skatepark and smashing the shit out of it, I've got a couple of these quantum flux xt an mt, and value for money is incredibly good, yes they may break from time to time, but it will break every time some one buys one of these to take to a skatepark, if you wanna go to a skate park, take what skateparks where designed for...a bmx or a skateboard the likes, I disagree strongly with anyone wanting to slate these cars, I think they are really really well designed and cheap to repair and easy to work on when they do go wrong... brilliant RC cars maverick
I think the maverick range is great for the money still, however we have to expect breaking parts at a skate park with any brand! And parts can be found to fix it mate 👍great upload Ricky 🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely I agree for the money they offer a lot and of course parts will break at a skatepark with any brand but comparing to all the rcs I have bashed even harder than what you see in the video most have come home in one piece or minor damage. Admittedly they are more expensive/higher quality/ better plastics but even so I expected it to last more than 10 mins and I didn't think a 10ft jump would kill it in that space of time. Ultimately it is down to people to make their own decision if anyone is looking for a cheap 3s basher this is great just be prepared to break things with jumps. Cheers 😎👍
I have 2 of these and haven’t had any issues but I don’t jump them on concrete either. Dirt and sand driving mostly. I like the green wheel truck body best as far as looks also. Thanks for testing for all of us! 👍👍
I like this one, coming in at just under $200, for a 1/10 scale "basher", 3s capable (very surprising in this range), brushless (!!), ect. It looks like the rear gearbox/bulkhead and shock towers need an upgrade, and perhaps all the suspension arms too. I want to see if this platform is upgradeable (or even highly, like the Wltoys 144001/124019 platform), or if it's not worth upgrading. It seems that the wing and wing mount is very sturdy, to the point that it transfers crash forces to the shock tower and gear box. I really hope that this is a capable platform, because I really want to like this car.
The Maverick is great for a first time RC’r. I gained so much knowledge because I got to pretty much replace every part of it as something would break or fail with every battery pack. In 2 months I spent the same amount that it cost in replacement parts. It’s a false economy. Best thing I did was get the Traxxas Maxx. Only broken one thing in 3 months and it was a top a arm from when I hit a 60 foot jump and landed on the front wheel at a diagonal and knew something had to break from that.
With something like this, I suppose you have to weigh up the fact you know it's going to break, versus, how much the repairs are going to cost, and can you upgrade your way out of the breakages, without putting other (possibly more expensive) parts at risk. Someone has already mentioned FTX, and the Carnage, and I think the Torro can be a bit hit and miss with durability. But parts are dirt cheap. It's a great looking truggy, and I would be annoyed at it breaking after 10 minutes!! But that's the great thing about RU-vid, and channels like yours. You give an honest opinion on what you find, and people can make an informed decision from that. 👍🏻
Cheers Rob if the product isn't any good I will be honest and unfortunately as good as this looks its not durable at all and as mentioned on another comment things are going to break at a skatepark but i wasn't sending this truck to the moon. I think it was about a 10ft jump and it landed on the wing and it was all over 😭
I snapped the rear diff case snapped the rear wing mount and a pinion gear and a front right drive shaft thats all with the 3s 5500mah bashing battery.
Took my 9 year old out today and he got to use the mavric for 3 mins before it broke. It took 1 back flip and blowen the rear differential clean. Its only fwd now.
I race fpv drones every weekend, took about two years to have dexterity to fly thru 5ft gates laid outnin a track...maybe 16 gates..twisty track. But now im a bit into rc cars as u can share experience with more ppl.
Great vid Bro, As you know I love a Maverick, and I can honestly say I like this thing, I mean its no Phantom XT 😜😜 Those FPV drones are nuts mate... Once again your editing is epic
Cheers bro! They can be hit and miss sometimes and unfortunately this one is a little bit of a miss for me. Shame as it looks great but a slab of butter is more durable a 10ft jump killed it instantly 🤣. Got to get myself an fpv drone 😉
Great video Ricky and honest review I'm a bit gutted it didn't last longer I was really hoping for better things,I've been waiting for over three months for my LHS to get delivery of my team arrival MT10 I thought I would get the maverick so I could thrash it about until the MT10 turned up and the weather was good ,I'm not sure now but I really do like the look of it
Cheers Brad i know you were waiting for this one and I've put it off for a while so had to get one on the channel. 10 mins in and about a 10ft jump killed it mate which is very disappointing. Yes I know taking an rc to a skatepark is almost always going to end in breakages but its not like I sent it 30 ft in the air I've taken other rcs there and done a lot worse and they have come home with me in one piece. I would pass that's just my opinion I'm no longer a fan its a hard one as for they money it does offer a lot I just don't want to be fixing major breakages all the time. Cheers mate and such a shame 😎👍
The thing is that i have the brushed version and i converted it to brushless its really good i like the upgrades you can get its not a bad car anyway like the video keep up with the good work
Hi Im in the same predicament, I have an XT brushed and wanted to do an upgrade at some stage but run it non lipo, was it difficult expensive to do, parts difficulty level etc. Any help much appreciated.
Got mine before Christmas, and absolutely abused it for an hour or so, snapped the rear wing off completely after 10 mins but it was on 3s full throttle most of the time. OK it does break but parts are cheap. You do get what you pay for but I loved every minute. Going to take it abit easier now but still good fun. 👍. By the way before you take it out tighten the steering servo screw up before you use it cause it comes loose. Happened to my neighbour and me on second run out👍
This was my second rc after a wltoys 124018. I now own a maxx and a rustler as well. The traxxases are just on another level and much more expensive of course. The maverick is definitely not for skateparks. If you keep it on 2s, on grass or gravel you will have no probs. I think the electronics are fine, it is just the quality of plastics that is not great. All and all i think this is a great rc even with its flaws.
As Ricky mentioned me, i have the previous version to his, to start this is no way near high grade Rc as some mentioned, i paid £159 for a 3s 45mph out the box so its going to have drawbacks lol. You can get a couple of easy mods to sort a lot of it out. First is the Metsafil Hd arms, much better than the stock Hd front bottom arms. Next is the plastics, the issue is the chassis flex and there is a nice youtube vid on making your own brace which makes a hell of a difference. There are more but they are the main ones too start with.
Cheers for the info Phil I was very disappointed by this as for the money it looked very promising. With a few upgrades I have no doubt it would be better. Cheers mate 👍😎
@@beyondRC Sad to say that in the few days I've owned this car it has already become a money pit in spare parts. Will upgrade in a few months to something a lot stronger.
I like the truggy look buy I got the mt version as I heard the spoiler was a weak point. Ideally the spoiler needs to have a separate mount or even be part of the shell like the vorteks.
Thats because the MT doesn't have the wing dude 🤔👍 just think as an overall package its not the best. Many have commented saying they have experience the same thing and repairs costing as much as a granite sometimes.. so would make sense to just start with something like that or a mt10 etc to save the headache
@@beyondRC thanks for the response. So far with mine I've had a bend axle shaft which I hammered back into shape and I stripped a spur when a stone got wedged between the motor and the centre drive shaft. Ive done some moderate jumps and I run 3s. Definitely needs to be driven well. If landed properly it seems fine. Also used softer shock oil. The oil it comes with is so hard that I recon on landings it stresses the arms because the shocks are not absorbing any impact.
GARBAGE. This little truck is very weak. The drivetrain and suspension and bulkheads are extremely weak. With like 10ft jumps it breaks very quickly and easily. There stock ESC is garbage on 3s. My experience.
I think most who watch the video would see that I agree to a certain extent. People on the channel asked for it and i got it and I was very disappointed it lasted 10 mins. A 10ft jump killed it within that time. I will be fixing and selling this one 👍😉
@@beyondRC Yeah. I stripped the ring gear and pinion on the rear diff, snapped the shaft that holds the spur gear in half, broke the front bulkhead and had to replace all the driveshafts and a leg ends to the HD ones. I've spent way more than what a Granite would cost and it's still not as strong.
Not in this price range the mt10 is like £60 - £80 more. Closer to the quantum plus price range. And yes even though the quantum plus is bigger the associated is better. Quantum plus has the same wing weakness as this xt. They need to release the mt version of the plus. Or I'll maybe just buy one and change the body 🤷♂️
Fair point but the mt10 is out of this price range being under £200. There isn't a lot of trucks that offer what the quantum does its just a shame its not better built 😭
@@beyondRC ok would it not better to look at one of the LC racing emb series at this price point I know they are smaller but probably get more speed and durability
I have the 60amp version. It's powerful but wheels wobble, drivshafts are very flimsy , the fan can't take 3s and the supplied wheel wrench doesn't even fit the wheels! Some parts are stupidly pricey. Oh the suspension was terrible and shocks needed rebuilding because oil was like treacle. I don't see anything comparable for the money though.
It's an easy enough fix and shouldn't take too long I know upgrades are available for the arms but not sure on the wing setup. The design is terrible 😔
I got the brushed version of this and i am not hapy with that. Because it's very slow and underpowered, it gets stuck on almost every little obstacle. And they said (Hobby Store) this thing can do 50 kmh, but i tested it. And it does only 20 kmh.
Having dealt with the Mavericks since the start of my youtube trip I have seen a fair bit of issues but the big one being the one you ran into now, pretty much everything else you can upgrade but the gearbox is not really much you can do with until they revise the design company wise. I do still like the trucks but this is definitely something holding me back... Still a good video mate!
After paying out for all the upgrades would it have been better to spend more and buy a better truck to begin with that's the question most Will have to work out 🤔😭
@@beyondRC Very true, Personally I think that if you have the budget, go for something in a higher quality/price range but if not then you will have a great learning experience in the hobby with the repairs.
@@EyesOnRC such as? If you factor in purchase price of the Maverick MT flux, plus the “necessary” upgrades, what are the best options out there that compare in terms of cost?
I can only talk from an Australian perspective. car 400AUD. Uprated shocks 50aud Uprated arms 70AUD Uprated drive shafts 60 AUD Stronger body( clear lexan is stronger) 100 AUD, with that you are about 70 aud less than a traxxas slash or rustler 4x4 vxl. And this is only counting outright prices, if we add the parts used before finding what works it would be adding another 300-400AUD and suddently we are way over but, with saying that all cars have their issues, good example with the traxxas 3s vxl is that you can't run 3S with out a fan on the esc for more than 5min but still they are sold without and looking at Arrma they have issues with arms, motors and center driveshafts on their 3s line.
@@EyesOnRC thanks for this… what I’m getting at is, once upgrades of known issues are complete on the MQ MT Flux, is that then a better option than the other models you’ve mentioned (simply because they cost more out of the box and still require upgrades on top of that cost). I’m a newbie to this level of RC so just don’t want to get in over my head and realise I’ve thrown my money at the wrong option.
I wouldnt buy anything maverick again, hpi is not what it once was , i have bought the strada mt and the phantom for my kids as an upgrade from the wltoys144001 both trucks broke within five minutes of light use, i fixed them, sold them on and decided to just buy them a granite and a rival mt. If its worth doing, its worth doing right, save the extra dollar and just buy the tried and tested brands,
Had mine on 3s for 5mins then it burnt out the standard esc replaced with a max10 then first use on that with 3s stripped rear diff and snapped a front cvd so replaced the whole lot with the HD axels n shafts couldent find an upgrade diff so used it only on 2s to be safe , then cracked a curb at low speed snapped both left side arms so replaced it and sold the stupid thing lol 😆
Ohh most definitely buddy 😆 ,and was shocked as hpi are in with maverick and was expecting a lot more from the truck but I guess if used on 2s and not jumped or bumped in any way it,ll be fine 😆😅😅
I sold mine after a few months because waiting for new parts all the time meant I couldn't enjoy it, plus being terrified each session I'd break something took the fun out of it. Ended up buying an arrma Senton mega, selling the running gear and buying a 3s ESC motor/combo. Nothing broken year and I've owned it almost a year. The old adage of buy cheap buy twice applies to the maverick quantum
Could you potentially put a bigger tooth pinion by like 1 or 2 would that make enough notable difference and would that increase the temperatures by much ?
Car is NOT 3s capable. Electronically it can take it but I've been stripping gears almost every ride. I've managed to empty a battery pack like 2-3 times because every other time I've had to stop because it broke. And that's with no jumping, just driving around.
Everything about this truck was terrible IMO. working on them was a nightmare, too fragile and they break standing still. Not mavericks best release. I hope we see something new this year ;(
I've just bought one of these as an entry into the hobby. It seemed the best value vs performance at around the £200 mark before the prices jump up considerably (if I was sure I'd stick with it, I would have gone straight for an MT10 I think). A bit worried now I've seen this video, and I was also considering getting another one for my lad. Anyway, in the video most of what you're saying is positive apart from durability, which doesn't seem to be overall durability rather just its spoiler (for which there are 2 simple solutions: don't land it on its spoiler or remove the spoiler). Have you had durability problems since then, then? Appreciate it's been a couple of years so you'll have had more time with it. I've been more than impressed for it so far, but now wondering if I should get something else for my lad.
14:53 fast hornet rc critic ...um shitty arms ,hey nice motor...good esc, 20 kilos servo, cant see the receiver cose its sealed. not bad for the price ! ...bye ! ...a few moments later (for a hornet) ...wait a minute, tower suspension brokes? and the center drive shaft bends?. umm better get some upgrades there bro.
Yes take him to the skatepark You're going to end up breaking something on any vehicle. But 10 minutes in and already found something broke. That's not good there's cheaper brands out there like MJX hyper go You bastion and bashing and bashing and you still come home with nothing broke. So what's that telling you and the hyper goes or less than $100 to 110 15. Compared to this one what 280 something like that.😮 So I'll stick with my cheap hyper go MJX that's one heck of a good brand. Very durable very fast and the gears and stuff are quiet. Yes it's only like 16 scale but you can't go wrong for the money. You don't go to a skate park and get broken in 10 minutes Heck your battery didn't even die yet and you're broke. Check out the MJX hyper go line and you will not be disappointed.😊
