Mavic 2 Pro 3D Mapping Modeling - Pix4D Capture, Photoscan, SketchFab, & Drone Deploy

Can you make 3D Models with the Mavic 2 Pro? Short answer is a big yes. Do you want to do large scale models with the Mavic 2 Pro? I'm not sure.
Today's video I walk through a model I recently made here in Arizona. I talk about using PhotoScan Standard and Drone Deploy to render the 3D Models, and Pix4D Capture to gather all of the images for processing. The results aren't bad at all, and I need to do additional testing to see if the drone is viable for big modeling jobs. For the moment, simple 3D drone models and 2D models can be rendered from what the Mavic 2 collected, and for simple projects where measurement and accuracy aren't needed I think you can use the Mavic 2. When it comes to measurements and multiple flights per model I don't think it's quite there (for me).

We've been having good luck using Drone Deploy with the new Mavic 2 Pro for our mapping. The Drone Deploy software has done a great job with no problems.

I've used the Drone Deploy app & website as well. And you're right, they do a nice job as well. Good to have options, but I'd love to see more options available to us. I'd love to see a desktop application for 2D and 3D modeling that isn't so expensive as most of the solutions today.

I have a Mavic 2 Pro and a Matterport 3D camera and I was wondering if I could some how integrate the two so I can make a final video for my real estate clients? Great video much value and insight thanks for everything!

I've used my Mavic 2 pro to create exterior 360s that then tie into interior 360 tours as well. I'm not sure how Matterport will work if you're bringing in some drone 360's to your presentation. In my case I use Kuula for my tours, and I can integrate the drone work and the terrestrial work into a tour. You might want to see what Matterport suggests for drone based 360s.

Does drone deploy still offer free mapping? Will be commercial soon but as a start up, unwilling to splash out on their subscription so early. Cheers.

You can do a free trial period with them, and after that you can do a few smaller maps per month. You won't be able to export to different formats with their free service. You can also do a free trial with Pix4D and Agisoft Photoscan as well.

i love drone and i study in geomatics field that also use drone for mapping and analysis object on the surface. maybe u have to make a comparison between mavic 2 pro and phantom 4 pro

Some day I'd love to do a comparison with the Mavic 2 & Phantom 4 Pro. Unfortunately I live in a very very small space, so I always lean toward compact tech devices. That's why I haven't gotten a Phantom 4 Pro. I already know it's a great 3D modeling machine, and someday when I have some more space...... 😀

@@AZ-Drone but there are some stuff that still stuck in my head. have you ever try to combine 2 chunks? is that precise or not? bcs i ever try to combine 2 chunks which the photos taken by DJI Inspire 2 and the result is some parts not align correctly between them...

It's always best to check the app developers to see what they currently support. I just took a quick look on a few. Litchi supports the Mavic Air 2. flylitchi.com/help#:~:text=Litchi%20is%20compatible%20with%3A%20Mavic,)%2C%20Inspire%202%20and%20Spark. As of November 2021 Map Pilot Pro doesn't support the Air 2. - support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/205704366-Supported-Hardware Ground station Pro does not have it on their list at present - www.dji.com/ground-station-pro/supported-product For any new drone always be sure to double check what apps can provide support.

Depending on the map and the presentation format, you can include links to a Matterport Tour, a video, or a few other items. These days I use Metashape to make a 3D model, I export that model to Sketchfab, and in Sketchfab I can add links to outside sources.
