That's pretty cool. I'm sure everyone already knows this but do not mix batter chemistries, and mix old and new batteries, or even battery from different batches if possible. For a lot of different reasons. But it's still an awesome mod
You gave me another brilliant idea!! Just use 2 DJI batteries.. but make a Disconnect between each 3 wires, SO you can charge both batteries separately!! I will do this, thanks!
I am happy that my video triggered some thought. I cannot say that I fully understood how you mean it. Maybe you want to do a video about it and make the community richer?! 😉
I think I understand. But note that once you charged a battery you HAVE to discharge it. You can not change the cells and charge another one. The electronics may think that the cell takes up too much charge so it must be faulty and it locks the battery.
Very detailed, was the only place I was able to find the answer to which pads did what on the battery terminal. Middle two are positive, the two next to the positive on each side are negative. Thank you
I had the same question but with the battery of a Potensic Atom which is very similar to the DJI mini2. Thanks to your video, I was able to clear this doubt. Another discovery for me was about not disconnecting or short-circuiting the terminals of a smart battery, at the risk of permanently damaging it. I greatly appreciate your work and interest in knowing how things work. This is how we learn. Thank you very much!
lipo and liion have very different way to deliver power they have to be charged equally like balanced bc if not lipo will try to level charge and with discharge rates being so different there could be battery damage.
@@SzyxYank all batteries are similar depending what are you looking at, lithium ion is a completely different chemistry than lithium polymer, so if by very similar the criteria is the word lithium in their name then yes, but we are considering charging and while charging the considerations are not even close… since diacharge rate? to chamce to get on fire, how efficient they are etc. dont want to sound like a hater but they are nothing close to each other
Sweet video bro helped me alot I got two mini batteries I got cheap at bestbuy I use in my mini SE. Think they wanted get rid of the stock they had left. Wanted to mess with one of them to make something for a range extender for use with litchi way points for a security perimeter patrol around my property . I figure the extra weight is ok as I want it set at 110feet agl so not very high at all. I have hovering points in the track which gives me a really good flight time on the stock mini2 batteries. I just want more and more haha 😂
I use a floss threader to pull floss under bridges. It is a stiff piece of plastic with a loop in one end. I slipped it through with some waxed floss in the loop. It went around fairly easy, cutting the silicone and lubricated by the wax. Easier for me than hunting up a stiff wire and hooking thread through.
@@ZollyD awesome, i’m happy that i have a plan to upgrade one of the batteries if one will go bad, seems pretty easy, i’m curious to see the improvement on flight time on 3500mah batteries or the biggest you can get
also, the r25 have 2500 mah as i rember and the li po cells you are using might be 2.2Ah, and even tho you put the same li ion cells instead of li po , you have to consider discharging and charging the added li ion cells in order to see if they have similar capacity. li po have 3.7v nominal and li ion have 3.6v
this is the video i was looking for but can you show the terminal where the balance wire is soldered into the pcb I'd like to replace my battery but like to keep it neat Great video man 👌
The drone just shuts the motor off when it says battery voltage low after you cut the balancing wire. Shouldn't it try to go home or land first? Or is it because the drone knows it's not actually flying
Hi Zolly. I was wondering, why did you cut power from this BMS then go to all the trouble of modifying this board? Would it have worked to simply leave the Lipo cells and balance wire in place, solder in your Sony Murata VTC6 cells, then remove the Lipo cells?
Hello thank you for sharing that is great. how do you manage low voltage alarm as Li-on is 2.6v vs 3.3 for lipo? If you keep original setting lipo will be destroyed.or I have missed something.?
Good point, and you have not missed anything. You are totally right. :) That is why I use the rest of the videos only the Li-ion cells. And in the later videos if you really watch them I mention this somewhere.
@@ZollyD I flew yesterday and I have noticed that voltage alarm is 3.35 something like this. Which is the absolute limit for lipo but not for li-on. The pb is that we can't adjust le voltage by ourself
Interesting...have u just tried using some Samsung 18650s inr 3000mah to 3500mah batteries...and not running the dual pack...just upgrading the mini2 pack.. I might buy some crap mini 1 batteries on eBay and try it....i ran 5500mah lipid on my mavic pro...with a RC adaptor for charging dji on a racing drone charger
It does not charge during flight. Even if it did the additional circuitry of the power bank adds too much weight and it provides too low charging current.
Very interesting project.would it be possible to bind the Mini gimbal after exchanging it with the mainboard without using the method given by dji and its software? so that the error message 40021 disappears
No idea. I am looking into the internal comm in the drones, but it is so encrypted I haven´t gotten too far with it yet. Once I have some valuable info I will for sure post it here! :)
So DJI are making their batteries 'tamper proof' just to be able to sell over-priced batteries? That's not very consumer friendly and would qualify for a sour lesson... I've been thinking a little about developing and selling 'drop in replacement' PCB's for the most popular Mavic drones - like the CPU Boards, with a snapdragon without burned fuses, to make them 'great again' aka 'hacking friendly'. But I'm not sure if the costs will be reclaimable by support from the community... Also, I'm not sure how far they have gone to make their flying software to detect a cloned board. What du you think? 🤔
Cool stuff. I am happy to cooperate for the greatest good! I have to add, while I also disagree with some methods Dji uses to maximise profit. However I also undersand that modded batteries can be dangerous and Dji don't want to take the blame for any user error. I wish they would at least make it possible to buy an unlocked board from them with proper disclaimers and maybe even accepting that your drone loses warranty the day you purchase the unlocked battery.
very smart to put 2s2p batteries in paralel one pack being li ion and the other li po, so smart, i assume u know they have different voltage and so different charging voltage, very smart man
Hi! I do not fully understand which parts do you want listed. Help me out here! :) Otherwise I am in progress doing the same mod on a Mini 2 and it will come soon! :) Cheers
@@ZollyD ok thanks I will wait it out for the mini 2 My problem is mini 2 range is amazing but battery makes me bring it home sooner Look forward to the mini 2 battery mod ❤️👍
Thanks man, i enjoyed every minute of your video because I am a drone and electronic enthusiast. Well explained. Still my batteries are new but who knows when I have to that too. Can I put batteries with more amp? Or is there on the PCB board a limit check that controlls the amp? Anyone knows?
Thanks! :) On the Mavic Mini if I am correct you can just put higher capacity cells, it will be fine. Maybe you get the low battery warning earlier, but it will still fly. (I think) :)
That I have been also wondering myself! :) I have not found basically anything about the cells. They must be at least 15-20 Amps I believe! ANYONE with some better info?
May I know what is the mAh of the original 18650 ? If I want to change the original 18650 to new 18650 with higher mAh for longer flight time, is this possible ?
Peace be upon you and God’s mercy. I have a question about the Mavik Pro Zoom plane. How many volts does it take for me? I want to buy a battery to increase the time, and I don’t know how many volts it is. I mean if I bought a battery, for example, 17 volts, would you bear the increase first? Thank you.
Thank you! I do not have a Mavic Pro, so I can´t answer your question with confidence. I believe (not sure) it is a 3S battery pack (Absolute max cahrge 13.2V). To put higher voltage than what the drone is designed for is risky. f I ever get my hands on a Mavic Pro series drone I will for sure post a video about my findings. Right now I can not be much help on this. If you have any progres please let us all know! :) Good Luck!
Anyone on here know how to exceeded the hight limit on my CJS S189 PRO it's stuck at 120 mitres. Geofence blocker or something that disables my hight on app.
If every step is followed exactly, I don´t see why it should not work. Basically the battery board will not even "realize" that anything was done. I have not tried it with a Mini 2 though. So this is my best educated guess. Hope this helped. :)
Hi! If you mean to take the cells from a mavic 2 battery.. It is not advised. Not a great idea to mix the different lithium technologies as they have a different charge range and a very different discharge curve. What I showed in the video is just a demo. :)
I tried with acetone. It softens a bit with it. Heat does not effect it. Maybe it is not epoxy, but I doubt it is hot glue. Maybe some glue experts out there? 😅
Good morning, excuse me, but putting two 7.6 volt batteries adds up to 15.2 volts, that will leave the drone useless, it will burn the transistors because it does that.
Yes, the added battery is in parallel with the original one. It is true that the individual cells are connected in series. So it is a 2S2P configuration. I agree that the 15.2 volts would be unhealthy! 😂😂😂 I made a video with a 3S battery on the Mini though. Check it out if you feel like! :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9vgUTs8XGs4.html
It's a mistake to connect two lithium battery sets like that without proper BMSs. This is true even if the batteries were of the same brand, type and capacities.
Another crap video, you don't show full flight battery time, plus charging source with extra battery's would eventually burn out charge control through drone charge system, try adapting this to a onion !!
so why not just put battery that is 3500 mah in like they do with the battery mod for mini 2 in philipines ? can then have it back in the original case
👍🏼. Thank You !! BTW: Has anyone come up with a substitute battery for the Mavic-3 or Air-2s ? For Fire department / SAR use where we want to increase flight time by double or more… Thanks !
