Mavs at Lakers, 2008 (Joel/Stu)

4-04-2008. I didn't recall that Eddie Jones, Ty Lue, and Devean George were all on that Mavs team. Trip. Gonna do a string of 08 n 09 era stuff for a minute now. No, don't have every game, so please no requests. Didn't have HD back then, but made the SD look as good as could be done. Lotta things you forget about old teams, even 10-12 yrs later. We had some good talent in 07-09. Not a superteam, but a great, solid team, with much more credit given to them than the 2020 squad got from all the haters.

Thanks as always, NPZ! I’ll always look back fondly at ‘08, even with the terrible ending. The bench was young and fun, Bynum was ballin before his injury, and the Pau-Lamar front court passing was second to none. Oh and Kobe MVP, too. Good times.

Lamar Odom was one of the most enigmatic, frustrating players I've ever seen. He had all the physical tools and ability to be a perennial all-star. This guy on any given night could go out and give you 25-10 and 5, and then the very next game, it was as if he wasn't even on the floor. Once Pau came to the team, I think Lamar eased into his ideal role. He wasn't a "Scottie Pippen" to Kobe's "MJ", he was more of a 3rd wheel type guy, and for the most part, he was really good and most valuable in that role.

This is standard DEF, yo!1 I tinkered around with it. Still not HD, but even SD burned onto DVD from as late as 2008 doesn't look too good unless you adjust the color, contrast, brightness, sharpness, etc. Main probs are dark looking footage w/ dull colors and either a red, green, and/or blue tint that's too strong, red being the usual suspect.

I put up a Denver game for a couple seconds til I realized I encoded it w/ the 2nd half first. Gotta redo it. The life of a Laker uploader, man... Not all it's cracked up to be.

@@josecarranza7555 I think I might have a few, but they're from 77 and 78 iirc and have been up'd by others. We all get the same gms that float around after awhile. I'll put a mental note of it tho. I'll put up any game that I have. I no longer care about rarity. I just have a certain disoriented style where I like to do streaks of old and new, mostly.

I hear about the 94-95 season a lot being a renaissance team, but I wasn't really a big follower of the Lakers back then as a 2nd grader so I have no live memories of that team, but 07-08 was the equivalent for me. The team looked like it was about to implode at the beginning of the year, with the offseason featuring Kobe demanding to be traded - saying he'd rather play on Pluto than play on the Lakers and having that video in the parking lot calling Bynum a bum, the middle of the year after Bynum got injured and Kwame getting booed in that Phoenix game being another low point where everything looked it was about to fall apart again, and then getting Pau Gasol - so the fact that they made it all the way to the Finals was a pleasant surprise. Also, one other random note I noticed about the 2000s period - all those undersized high scoring bench guards always seem to be wearing headbands.

Man, I did this and I didn't even notice Ira Newble in there. I was expecting Shannon Brown to report. I gotta look at the rosters from 07 to 09, haha.

@@brianmao5296 Turns out Ira was simply a 10 dayer. I recently did that 03 LAL at ATL gm where he played well. Often one good game burns into a teams' memory and they wind up wanting that player down the road. We got Trev for Mo Evans and Brian Cook on 11/20/07. I remember crashing after work that day and waking up after dark and finding out about that and I was thrilled and relieved. Hated Cookie. Per bballref you were right. We didn't get Shan til 2/7/09 for Cadet. On 2/18/09 we dealt Mihm to MEM for a 2nd rounder we never got, but that must've been to clear the way for some deal, bballref doesn't go that far.
