The true story about one of the most brilliant saboteurs during WWII and his battle to overcome his inner demons. Directed by Joachim Roenning & Espen Sandberg, starring Aksel Hennie as Max Manus.
I agree! I am American, and have friends in Norway who turned me on to this film. Norway is such a wonderful country full of amazing people. Hats off to the royal family and cabinet who let them film in the actual towns and buildings, rather than on a set like we do with so many US films. It adds a completely different feel to the movie. It is a great reminder how one person, with courage, faith and an unwavering love for his country can change the course of the world.
This is a national treasure of a story, and no, the average saboteur did not blow up and burn as much nazi value as these few men did. For example the ship called Donau, check that ship out, transporting jews, nazis and supplies. (And other ships)
Verste filmen.
The author of this movie died yesterday. This movie became his masterpiece in life. R.I.P. Thomas Nordseth-Tiller, only 28 years old. :( R.I.P. Thomas-as author of this movie has put his name into both Norwegian Movie-production and gave today's norwegians an impression of how our grandparents suffered during the war. R.I.P. :'( :'( :'( :'(
What is actually so haunting about that part 1:53 is that he is sitting on a train, talking Norwegian and saying all that to a German soldier who is just another passenger on the train, and doesn't understand Norwegian, but offered Max Manus a cigarette a minute earlier. And he is finishing the sentence by saying in Norwegian that he is going to blow up their ship, and tells him that maybe he is one of those who will die in the cold water in the ocean, screaming for their mom. You should see the whole clip, can probably find it on RU-vid, it's quite haunting.
How can people argue on here about who was better Gunnar or Max!? It doesn't matter they were both amazing for what they did. I loved this movie and hope to see one about Gunnar soon.
This movie changed my point of view when it comes to national heroes. It´s realistic and exciting at the same time, and so educational!!! The best movie made by norwegians!!! I´m proud to be from Norway!
I really loved this movie, it must be one of the best norwegians movies. It really has a meaning of the second world war. I also think that they put Max Manus in a pot where everyone thinks his the hero, but He was a hero but not the one who stopped everything. I just really love this movie :D
Patriotism = NR . 1 TOOL OF SATAN , the NR.1 BRANWASHING TOOL ON THE MASSES from the elite and new world order, there is no more hope for society and humanity no more.... specially the naive norwegian public like you who made this comment , and those who voted it up , its over.... they control your minds and everything about you , brainwashed and programmed from birth.
have you ever seen this mocing ?? its not showing off just a hero, its showing off how it was to live during ww2, and how max manus will always mean alot to norway. it shows that everyone could make a huge difference!
thanks for showing a few nice germans too for a change,.. regardless of what their government did, our soldiers were simple patriots too you know.. "so the winner is going to decide who's the patriot and who's the terrorist." -Max Manus..
I finally watched Max Manus last night. Outstanding and brilliant movie. I just wish it would've shown the Donau go kablooey. I hope Norway finally makes a movie soon about Asbjørn Sunde. His Communist cell the Osvald Group had been responsible for more than 200 successful attacks on Nazi targets throughout Norway. Its about time he gets the credit he deserves.
Army of Crime (French Resistance) A++++ Uprising (Warsaw Ghetto Uprising) A+ Flame and Citron (Danish Resistance) A+ Black Book (Dutch Resistance) A+ If you enjoy movies about anti-Nazi resistance in Europe during WWII then I highly recommend these four. I'm still waiting for a U.S DVD release of Max Manus.
Såg filmen for andre gang på kino idag. Fantastisk film, setter virkelig ting i perspektiv, har definitivt masse MASSE respekt for de gutta som stod imot Tyskerene under krigen
He did much of the same things, he didn't involve himself in the resistance as much as Max did, he was sort of the man that the Germnas didn't know about. He helped the resistance in an undercover way
And for all the english people looking at this trailer. I recomend this movie! Great movie, and I'm not saying this just beacuse I'm Norwegian. It's a great movie filled with actual events from the WW2 in Norway.
Shout out to Max Manus from the USA. Very compelling war film. Makes one think about how people react to invasion and the lengths they go to. Very human dimension to the lead character and amazingly well designed, produced and directed. Hats off to Norway for an AMAZING emotional, tense, taunt, piece of cinema. How hip hop defines gangsta or soldier is lightyears away from the reality of a man like Max Manus. And to think, how Max saw the Nazis some see America 2day. INVASION IS WRONG!!!
Thats true. I would like to see a movie about the heavy water sabotage from Norwegian saboteurs where they stopped the Germans from getting Heavy water to Germany. Very well know story in Norway also seen in the first Medal Of Honor game except it you played as an American and the ferry in that game was a small boat but in real life it was a huge boat, and in real life it was just Norwegian Saboteurs destroying a big ship.
Terningskast 6!
1The allies did not know that the nuclear program was so slow, they only knew that it existed and the norwegian resistance delayed it even further. That sabotage mission is known as the best executed sabotage in WW2. 2the Soviet used so much effort to defend Stalingrad that if it would have been lost it would been a moral defeat and a big part of their army would have been gone. The Germans was planning to redeploy their forces from Norway to the front that is a fact and last 6 month is a lot
Great Movie.. Seen it like 10 times. What do you mean is the best world war 2 Movies? Elsker denne filmen :) Max Manus og Oslogjengen R.I.P Norway loves you
Something cool about Norway in WW2 is that 250,000 Nazis just disappeard trough the 5 years the Nazis were in Norway. Norwegian pop at that time were 4million, but there were 400K++ Nazis there :P
My Grandparents told me stories of how they fought the Nazis, they drove them batshit crazy by sabotaging everything they could get their hands on, I can't imagine what it must have been like but I'm proud of the Norskies for fighting.
Anyone interested in a more probing look at Scandinavian resistance during the war should search out the recent Danish film Flame and Citron on DVD. It caused a great deal of controversy in Denmark. Probably because the film's heroes sometimes come across as less than heroic
Så denne filmen for litt sida. WOW!
@TheJMdubb If you payed attention in history class, you would know that the germans were not anywhere close to producing an atomic bomb, even if their heavy water production hadn't been delayed. The important part of the sabotage missions was to keep German troops stationed in Norway, and to keep them from being sent to places where they acctually would have made a difference in the war. That, on the other hand was a success, and at the end of the war there were 400,000 German troops in Norway.
I am from Norway, and I am proud that I am coming from the same country as Max Manus and his gang, but I dont understand why norwegians dont like swedish people, I have been in Stockholm many times and I think Stockholm is prettier that Oslo. Anyway, I honour Max Manus and his gang for their bravoury..!
