I didn't like Mark Wahlberg'a performances as Max Payne. This role should go to Keanu Reeves. Mark should stay away from video game movies and stick to comedy and drama movies

Max Payne 3 was great.

i feel like a max payne to film adaptation would have been the easiest to do out of any other franchise. the guy who voices max payne (one of the most iconic voices of all time) was also an actor. the writing itself is basically cinematic by nature. the action in the game was basically aped by the matrix and john woo movies. like, they literally had EVERYTHING handed to them on a silver platter to make a great movie and they completely phoned it in. insane.

I really think Mark whalberg could have stopped 9/11. He's got the racism buff. Those hijackers wouldn't have even started by the time he took them out

Honestly it’s funny that you bring up Hard Boiled because I think John woo would have been perfect for a Max Payne adaptation. His style of action is so close to how the game looks that he would have at least nailed the feel of the games perfectly.

This movie was so bad and boring that i was so hyped up to see this movie when it came out and to this day it has been the only movie that i have fell asleep to in the movie theatres…

The inclusion of the Valkyr hallucination scenes in the movie feels so odd to me. In the game, Max's dreams and hallucinations serve to break up the constant action scenes. In the movie, though, there's so few action scenes to break up - what's the point? Also, you must be high on Valkyr if you thought Max Payne 3 wasn't good.

Marky mark was the worst choice in 2 of the 4 roles I seen him in. He was great in basketball diaries. He was good in the departed. But he was the worst choice for max Payne and he was definitely the worst choice in the happening.

I repressed the memory of this movie for so long then youtube recommends me the key that brings it all bad. I hate this movie so much lol James Mccaffery was wasted in this movie. Had literal Max Payne right there, voice and acting experience and all. Had access to Sam Lake. I don't get it. What really pissed me off is that MP is so grounded in reality that they could've just retold the story and it'd have been perfect. Fumbling an adaption like this is insane af, I'm still not over this. I wish they'd just give Remedy the full rights, at least we're getting remakes....soon.

I'm a huge fan of the Max Payne series, so the prospect of an actual movie had my interest. I remember the trailer popping up online, the action set to Marilyn Manson's "If I was your vampire" Great trailer, horrible movie.

Every couple of years I’m reminded this movie exist. And it bums me out every time.

I wanted to love this movie, I was a kid, I had played through max payne 1 & 2 on my Xbox multiple times. Even as a kid, I was like, where are the apartments, what’s with all the angels? The Punisher is almost the same story, both 2004 and the show do a better job. John Wick is peak, can’t criticize too much for stuff made after, but the point still stands, this movie sucks. I don’t even hate Marky Mark, it’s literally the lack of action and straying far from the story line besides “a man with nothing to lose seeks revenge for his family murdered in a conspiracy”. At least John Wick took out the Russian mob, which is more honest to the Max Payne storyline than the Max Payne movie.

Really felt your frustration with the movie in this video. You're right. This movie was prob the only shot this IP had at a good adaptation. A Hard Boiled / John Wick-esque movie with a decent mystery underneath it was just what the IP needed. Alas... we got Marky Mark :/ I really need to look into mods to fix Max Payne 1 so I can actually play that game (there are these major audio bugs that make it unplayable). Gotta disagree with the idea that Max Payne (the game) actually has a good story. It doesn't. Sam Lake's gurning mug and cheesey, clichéd, faux Noo Yoik gangster dialogue written by 20 year old Swedes was enough to string together all the great gameplay back in the day - but let's be real for a second, it was very very amateurish. One step up from the mid 90s FMV craze, *only because Remedy didn't have the budget to film it*

This movie was complete trash and I'm one of the suckers that excitedly bought the DVD. EDIT: You forgot to mention all of the positive reviews it got from people that clearly never played the game (I fell for said reviews).

I feel like the norse mythology connection could have been used with Jack Lupino, the tattoo parlor section would have made a little more sense, dude was obsessed with the stuff. Or he was just crazy

You wanna know what game I wish got an adaptation? The Getaway and The Getaway Black Monday. Both are literally stylized as a movie-game, with no HUD, no reloads, the cheesy sound effects for the guns and real life cars and locations. Hell, almost all of it's ads are live-action. The closest is a good adaptation of it's spinoff game, Streets of London

In Max Payne (before sequels) Max IS the killer, and user of Valkyrine. That's why bullet time and all. Killer had smile on his face because guess who. And entire game is an analogy of Ragnarok with Max being Odin, that's why Alfred Waden knew his name. But also per some version of Norse mythology Loki is Odin's dark manifestation so Max is Loki (too).

When I read the title the first thing I remembered was the drugged up free running gang. But you're not allowed to call this movie bad because the trailer was a banger.
